A thing we all need to remember about Panarin is that the money might not be the be all end all for him. Apparently CBJ offered him over 11 per for 8 years. He would’ve gotten the most money from them than any team because of that 8th year. His reason for going to UFA all along was he wanted to pick where’s he’s going to live. If FLA offers 12x7 and the Rangers are at 11x7, if he really wants to live in NYC then I don’t think he’s going to sign with FLA because of that salary difference. He’s going to be the highest pair winger in the league. I think ultimately it comes down to where he wants to play as his priority number 1.

Viola has owned the Panthers since 2013. His track record (not spending money, lack of success) speaks for itself.
Welp all signs seem to point to him not liking that track record and opening up the coffers for Tallon to spend so I don't know what to tell you.

Not sure I get what you're saying here--you can't trade cap space in and of itself. You can trade for players but you have to trade players, prospects or draft picks back. If we're picking up more expensive higher end players we're going to be accomplishing that with either higher end players of our own or with young players, prospects and draft picks. So if in the future we trade for a 29 year old Rantanen (just to use him as an example) we'll most likely be sending draft picks, prospects and younger players back to get him--either that or some stud of our own. But there's no money for player deals anymore--the NHL made them illegal.

Sorry I might have screwed up with how I was saying it. I mean with the massive amount of cap space and ridiculously deep prospect pool. We can use the cap space for a trade by trading a few good young prospects for a guy like marner, rantanen and so on to complete our team when players like kratsov and kakko fox and all of them are in their prime and can take on those big contracts with no hassle or sign and trade like the trouba deal.. trading with a year remaining and sign them to a big contract with the cap space.

I wonder if Nashville needs/has to move Granlund and he might be part of a Rangers fallback plan? If no Panarin, I’d consider taking his contract with a sweetener.
In what role? A tweeter center? I was never enamored with him but he plays a sound game and I could get behind that especially with a sweetener involved. I think we do need a veteran center for that 2nd/3rd line spot. Plus he's a very good pk'er which we could deff use.

We still have to unload at least 2 forwards.

Actually just checked his contract, I thought it was much, much longer. Your right. That contract absolutely does not have to add a sweetener to it. He's not an over the hill player. Still not enamored with him, but need another center for this season.

Pretty sure he's been primarily a winger for a while now.

Good player though. Last season was a down year for him but his previous 2 were very productive.

If Nashville needs to move a contract and open a position to accommodate Duchene, he could be the guy. I don’t know how they can move Turris without eating a lot of that contract

Would Nashville add to get rid of Bonino? He might be right on that border. Stats are higher than I thought because they seemed so disappointed with him through the year. Easy contract to eat for one year, pay his bonus July 1, then ship off. At a position we could use depth anyways.

He has value. Very good 5v5 player. Put him with a speedy forechecker and you have a very effective forward pairing at even strength. He’s not a guy that Nashville would have to give away.

Has that Czech twitter account been posted? Allegedly, Rangers and Panarin are closing on a deal. Guy has broken things before and has been accurate.

Im praying he signs in FLA..

Agreed as I said something similar earlier, if Panarin doesn't come here which I still want to happen but I'm feeling less and less optimistic of that happening, him going to the Islanders would really blow chunks.

He's a great player and him playing with Barzal would be a nightmare for us to have to deal with and would certainly make that club much more dangerous and a pain the ass to have to deal with going forward.

So please Artemi if your not going to come here and hang out with your buds out in Brighten Beach, go to Florida and bring Bob with you to play under Q and enjoy the warmth and those gorgeous beaches they got down there....

Hadn't thought of Granlund coming here but now that you bring it up, I'd very much be on board with him wearing his #64 for us as he'd be a fantastic addition.

Been a Granlund owner for past 3 years in my big $$ fantasy league and so I've watched alot of him over the years. He'd be an excellent fit for us as a #2 center and can play all facets of the game. He's fast as the wind, he's quick and has elite offensive skills and he's defensibly responsible. I'd think he would fit Quinn's system perfectly.

27 years old and at a reasonable salary and term and a 60-65 point type guy....sign me up!

Question is what would it take to get him. We'd need to be sending more than a Vesey type. As much as I wouldn't want to do this if we included Chytl in a package along with Vesey, that could get it done....hmmmm...I think I'd do that.

I don’t trust a man that would go through all of law school and then not even sit for the bar exam
