People overvalue picks far too much. A middling first rounder is highly unlikely to become as good as Buch. It doesn't really make sense imo.

Top 10, or top 8, I'd feel much more comfortable.

On it's face, you are correct.

But if the pick is on the clock and it's 14 and Newhook is available, I feel really good about that. You want Buch and Vesey? Done.

How many players get dealt for picks as high as 7/8? What are the closest historic comparables? I mean Stepan fell off and it was kind of predictable but I'd still put him in 2017 ahead of Buchnevich now. But I guess we can help EDM and BUF with bad contracts, to an extent.

Doesn't necessarily have to the be the usual suspects. Just something to keep in mind. When you look at some of the teams being mentioned in this thread, consider guys who are still young but haven't met expectations.

6 years of nylander for a rental Kreider would definitely be worth eating Marleau’s contract

But I don’t know if it’s enough. A signed Kreider for sure, but then Marleau is too much. That’d have to add to a signed Kreider
