The thing to remember with packages is that sometimes they have enhanced value to a team.

So, for example, let's say a team is looking for help on the third line and a guy who could bloom riding shotgun next to their top center, and you can offer both pieces, now you've got value added.

Or, you have a team that is seeing if it can put together an offseason where it finds multiple wingers to compliment its center depth, and you can offer multiple wingers, you've got value added.

Or maybe you have a bubble team that's looking for veteran scoring on the wings because it wants to get over the hump and into the playoffs where anything is possible, you've got the basis for a conversation.

And the returns don't have to be for one asset. They can be a pick where you feel you're assured to get someone you really like. Or maybe a reclamation project where you're gambling on potential as opposed to having a higher return now.

It's not necessarily all about a superstar, or a one for one trade.

This is great insight, and a lot deeper than whether Player A + Player B equals (or not) Player X + Player Y in terms of value. Value is certainly a relative term to the beholder. I think (especially on the main board) people get caught up in player value in reference to the other pieces of a trade, and not necessarily the value the acquiring team places on them for any number of reasons.

Also, thank you for sharing all of your information and insight! At the very least, it's a great way to get conversations going and pass the time until we all get our next fix.

Just realized we're eating Dan's $3.611M this year. We'll get $2.5M back next year at $1.11.

People overvalue picks far too much. A middling first rounder is highly unlikely to become as good as Buch. It doesn't really make sense imo.

Top 10, or top 8, I'd feel much more comfortable.

I think when you talk Buch, they would expect a higher first and something of intrigue. Reclamation projects are included in the latter.

I’ll tell you what these values im seeing alluded to means to me

hfboards and myself (regarding some of the guys): our values on our own guys have been on the low end. Seems they have more value than we perceived

Re: Vesey, I would use Pionk as a comparable in terms of value. For some teams he's probably worth the equivalent of about a pick in the top half of the second round.

Buffalo (at least for one team) seems to have genuine interest in Vesey and one would think they already have an idea of how they think he'll fit onto their roster. So as much as some fans here might not value Vesey very highly if the Sabres are calling about him it's apparent then they do see value--so it they want him that badly they should pay a good price for him.
