They're willing to pay the kid 88 million dollars to play hockey in his hometown. On par with what they gave Matthews and Tavares. I generally side with players as well but this seems like kind of a dick move from the Marner camp.
It’s not. One of my guys on another site highlighted this.

The most profitable play nowerdays is to put yourself in line for 2 huge contracts as a young superstar. 5 years and 5 years. The 2nd 5 yr deals gets signed 5 yrs later, they get a bigger piece of the pie cuz the cap is higher. They take out insurance to cover them in case of long term injury to cover their butts. If you get hurt you get paid, if you don’t get hurt you pay acoulle million Towards the insurance than you would normally, but you make that back and than a lot more on that 2nd contract

I'm guessing soon, and maybe thats the current hold up. Teams don't want to exchange salary before they know exactly how much they have to spend.

Dreger or Friedman, don't remember which, tweeted earlier that it will be between 81.5 and 82.1. That should be a narrow enough window for GMs to operate, I think.

I understand the business side of it, this is more driven by the agency. I'd advise hitting UFA in my prime as well.

Marner will be a wealthy man regardless.

The new CBA needs longer ELC or restrict 2nd contracts IMO

Well, they are the authority on weed, and weed-heads are the authority on pizza. I can only agree.

I suppose it would be the original pizza, i.e. neapolitan (iirc historically the "first pizza")
What kind of topping is weed? That’s one I’ve never seen before

Fair enough. I guess I'm just looking at the money and thinking, not bad for a 22 year old in his hockey crazed hometown. Financially, what you're saying makes sense, it's a business and if he gets two monster contracts good on him. Like someone else said, if they don't win with this team in the next five years, they probably never will.

You don't happen to be in Charlotte, do you? Because if so, I need to know about this bagel place.

All of these discussions are silly, IMO. SC BBQ is great, so is NC, KC, TX, etc etc. They really shouldn't be compared with each other, but only within their own categories. For example, I like Moe's BBQ is Matthews, NC more than Queen City Q... both NC. I always say there are 5 major pizza categories in the US. NY-style, Chicago-style, gourmet (i.e. California pizza kitchen, Mellow Mushroom, etc), frozen, and fast food (Pizza Hut, Domino's, etc). Comparing across pizza categories is a fruitless endeavor.

Calling CPK "gourmet pizza" is an affront to my senses. Gourmet pizza in my book is a place that doesn't sell slices like John's, Lucali, or Grimaldi's before they sold the place.

We can all argue trades and contracts all day...but we can all agree on pizza.
Clearly that's false! :sarcasm:

When I come back to NY for Xmas there are 3 places I have to go before I go back to Nashville and live without pizza for another year:

L&B
Joe's on Carmine
Di Fara

Joe's is always my first destination when I arrive on the island of Manhattan. I prioritize it over a visit with some of my family. I can leave NYC without seeing some of them, but will never visit the city without going to Joe's.

So, as we wait, I'll take my crack at reading the tea leaves regarding @Edge's balls "currently in the air":

NYR Kreider <–> ARZ #14OA (Higher probability big trade.)

NYR Buchnevcih+Namestnikov+Lindgren <–> EDM #8OA + Puljujarvi (Lower probability big trade, involving 4-5 pieces.)

NYR Namestnikov <–> Puljujarvi EDM (3nd, smaller option that could happen on its own or be part of the 2nd)

(1 and 2 are alternatives, as the team is not looking to ship out both Kreider and Buchnevich.)

In addition, ongoing conversations regarding...

NYR Vesey <–> BUF #31OA

NYR Kreider <–> COL #16OA

NYR Day <–> VGK C. Miller (cap dump, Rangers then flip Miller)

Multiple permutations with Toronto depending on which of the above happen, and how the Marner situation plays out.

5 year ELC/first contract and then unrestricted free agency after.

It’s very unlikely Detroit would be willing to trade the sixth-overall pick for Kreider, who has played the last couple of years for Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill in the World Championships, but it’s worth an ask. Perhaps Buffalo, looking to augment its kids, would put the seventh-overall in play. Maybe Florida at 13, Arizona at 14 or Colorado with its second pick at 16. But probably not merely for one year of service.

I don't think that's a fight the NHL is ready for. Both sides want labor peace and that would be a hugely contentious issue.

SPCs are capped at 15% of the cap. At some point in the future, I could see them trying to limit 2nd contracts to a smaller percentage.

Like Joe's. Love louie and ernie's in the bronx. Anna Maria's in Williamsburg if u want a slice loaded with toppings and could fill u up for days...

It's more for a lack of a better term. What I mean by gourmet is just that their thing is to have other takes on pizza toppings like thai chicken pizza or shrimp scampi pizza.

The Rangers don't have much to discuss with Keator. Kreider is set up to get the biggest payday of his career and he should take it. Don't be like Shattenkirk. I saw him on FOX 5 this morning with Tina Cervasio talking about his charity event with Anders Lee coming up on Friday. She was asking him about the Rangers acquistions but those additions have made Shattenkirk expendable in addition to his awful play. It's his life but he should taken the $42M over 7 years from TB in the sign trade for Johnson or Drouin. Now the Rangers would love to get him off of the team.

Tina Cervasio on Instagram: “We had a blast having @nyrangers @shattdeuces in our @fox5ny studios for #GDNY to talk @jamkancer at @versanyc @rennycmidtown, Kan Jam Vs…”
