Everyone knows that the Dutch are the supreme authority on all things Pizza.

Well, they are the authority on weed, and weed-heads are the authority on pizza. I can only agree.

Well, yes you should 100% be flamed for that  You can find any kind of pizza in NY, so just curious what would be real pizza to you?

I suppose it would be the original pizza, i.e. neapolitan (iirc historically the "first pizza")

He wants to take a shorter deal to get paid again in 5 years

He’s on par with Matthews, a top 5 winger in the game

Offer him the same contract as Matthews, it’s less money for them

If they can’t win in the next 5 years, they won’t win ever with that group

Obviously you're spot on in your assessment. He wants Matthews' deal. But 88 million is an awful lot of money to turn down. He'll still have an opportunity to sign another deal when he's 30.

Kreider is gonna be gone.

And, with The Post learning that Gorton and the winger’s rep, Matt Keator, had not yet had a substantive conversation about numbers at least as of Wednesday night, the feeling increasingly is that The. Rangers. Will. Trade. Chris.

If I was Marner I'd lock in the 11 million per now. He probably wants a 5-6 year contract in hopes he can sign another huge one. But there's no guarantee he'll be worth that after this deal is done.

That's a huge offer that will set him up for life. Seems he is overthinking it.

If Marner is a 70 point guy, he's going to secure north of $11 million with his next contract, if he indeed signs for 4-5 years.

The NHL isn't going to be exclusive on their next TV deal. They will make a deal with two of ESPN/FOX/NBC. That alone will increase the cap substantially. I believe the TV deal ends in a few years. End of the 2020-21 season. The cap went up nearly 10% last time they had a TV deal added. If they get two deal, look how the NBA cap exploded.

You wonder with that, a new team in Seattle, and natural growth of the NHL, I'd suggest the salary cap is going easily clear $90M, most likely clear $95M, and get close to $100M. Locking in for 8 years now means these players will miss out on the new upper limits. While that is good for the team, players on that level could be losing $10M+ over the course of contracts.

They're willing to pay the kid 88 million dollars to play hockey in his hometown. On par with what they gave Matthews and Tavares. I generally side with players as well but this seems like kind of a dick move from the Marner camp.
After the US tv deal goes through and the cap inflates bc of it, these guys are going to be able to make a LOT more money. They are trying to position themselves to be able to capitalize on that opportunity by becoming FA again in their prime once the cap jumps again. It's smart business by the agent.

In regards to Buch... I wonder if the thinking is that Kakko/Kravtsov will be the future top 2 RW. Since his value is probably near its peak, strike now for depth elsewhere (LW/C)while he's still under control coming off a strong season and finish to the year.

This the route to an offersheet though. Dubas is An idiot, he’s either gonna give marner a 5 year deal like he wants or marner actually sign the offersheet.

Man this kid Is gonna cost himself such a career (dubas)

If Kreider is gone and we miss out on Panarin, we need a solid plan at LW. We really have no natural top 6 LWs, including prospects, through the whole organization. That side becomes even more bleak with a Names or Vesey trade. I’m curious to see moves to fill that side since there isn’t much left on the FA agent market. Maybe Ferland?

If we aren’t getting Panarin, my preference is to re-sign Kreider.

You're assuming they're not the same person.

I wonder if the team is already penciling Chytil in as a LWer instead of a C?

The writing seemed to be on the wall but man it will hurt seeing Kreider go. I get it though, signing him long term at 29 is too big of a risk for the Rangers at this point with the type of player he is.
I like Kreider but always feel he could be more productive. Not reaching his top potential. But maybe he has. He disappears a lot and imho with his size and strength could be much more physical.

I understand all of this. But you're completely ignoring the risk factor that turning down 33 million dollars over 3 years brings with it. There is always a potential for injury, an early decline, etc. It's not as simple as saying, well, in 5 years he'll get a bigger contract. There are other moving parts.

I worked in asset management for years and some I worked with had a theory which I really came to believe in, once you've won the game, it's about protecting the win. Marner has won the financial game. His family will be set for generations because of what he did at the ages of 20 & 21. There is no reason for him to take on risk anymore. In fact, just the opposite.

There is also just as good of a chance that he will still be producing at 30, as he won't be at 27. If that's the case, he'll have made 88 million dollars, with the chance to secure another 4-6 year deal at 30.

No trades at all anywhere. Another ruse telling us there's unprecedented level of communication between GMs.
