Unpopular opinion I’m sure, but I’d trade Goodrow and Kreider and look to possibly sign Tarasenko and Kane if they would be open to shorter term deals. Say 4 years for Tarasenko and 3 years for Kane.
I've seen enough of Tarasenko to know its worth trying within reason to keep him beyond this postseason. Kane? Not yet.

OK Glenn, go back to your den and have a Stoogie.

Even at average, Zib and Fox bring more than the completely absent Kreider, Kane and Panarin.

I hope Halak wants to return, but Greiss will leave St. Louis.
Rangers should've left their 1 PP alone. Kane is not ready for that system. Use Kane on PP2. Kane always carried the puck in w/ Chicago. You can tell he's not comfortable yet. Teams are anticipating the passes between him and Panarin. Maybe kane needs to be selfish and take the shot when he can.

Yeah, I've been saying it all season. Due to cap issues, the Rangers are going to pretty much have to play guys on ELCs this fall, and luckily a lot are more aggressive players.

@RangerBoy , unless Othmann and Cullye spend the offseason drinking beer and on the Brendan Smith Summer 2017 training regime, they have roster spots waiting.

Edstrom will be 23 in October. Man strength. He's already a great skater and plays in a league that preaches defense. He has a very good shot to make the club.

They're also going to need to look into the bargain bin and find a Fedotenko or John Mitchell type. The modern NHL has a lot more of those cases. Look what Washington did with Gustafson.

Matt Nieto is a good option to finally bring to Broadway....although watch Hextall sign him just to spite me.
I don't want Othmann to get tainted by this coaching staff

If Gallant benched Panarin and Kane if they continue to struggle (I mean it’s been only 2 games, lol) , the media would have a field day. This place would also be fun as well .

There should be some accountability just don’t know when Gallant should implement it.
He should've had it built into the culture for the past 2 years. You don't just create accountability when it suits you...

Agree with goodrow and Kreider, but I’d rather take a step back to take a step forward with Othman, Bernard, cuyle, sykora, etc

I wouldn’t mind Tarasenko back since he’s the only one the team who shoots

This. If Fox plays as he has been for the past two months this team is out in the 1st round. He's been awful. Flat out.
Fox always struggles when he starts getting played close to 30 per and when Lindy is out. Why is anyone surprised w what has gone on here the past two weeks?

There is a trend w zib that his confidence with his shot transcends into confidence into his overall game. We've seen this before with him when his shot is shit or he isn't getting to opportunities to use it. And oh look, they took him out of the shooter hole on the pp. When panarin signed here zib was absolute garbage, GARBAGE! He was moved on the pp to make room for panarin on that left circle bc that's when panarin wanted. Once zib went back to the circle and spent 2-3 weeks rediscovering his one timer (it was a painful process) his entire game came back and he was an impact 1c again. This game is mental and confidence based. It's so stupid to mess with that when you don't have to.

I love Lindgren but I'm nervous of a long term contract for Lindgren , 3 years sure but he plays a style that can't be played for long in his body. I dont know if he accepts such a short deal. Robertson is his future replacement, the 6d spot is always gonna be in flux imo. I look at Lindgren like Gallagher in montreal, i said it when they signed him it was way too long and it's already a problem.

The Devils are coached by Lindy Ruff, a guy who was the scapegoat of this franchise his entire time here.
This!

I think the team needs some rest and pp1 needs some practice. I'm all for the rangers saving energy and coasting into the playoffs. These games honestly mean nothing for the rangers at this point. Just build some chemistry and go into the playoffs with a full roster.

How would they taint him? Explain. If anything Gallant will appreciate his straight ahead game and ability to win board battles (the anti-Kravstov).

Othmann is Drury's first pick, he's going to play next year unless he looks really awful in camp or gets lazy and content this summer.

He won't be ruined if he's getting used to the NHL. Let him learn the game in a bottom six role while getting 11-13 minutes a night on average and work his way onto special teams during the year.

Cullye and Edstrom are going to need be PKers which both can do.

Goes beyond the coaching staff at this point. It's an organizational philosophy. He'll top out as a middle 6er as the Rangers spend years teaching him how to "play the right way".
Drury is a smart guy. He redid the entire scouting department. It's up to him to continue redoing the infrastructure including sacking Ciaccao.

Remember when the D backing in the tops of the circles was a Lindy Ruff plot to make the Rangers terrible defensively, and then they continued to do it long after he was gone, including under defensive genius Jacques Martin?

Ruff's evil transcends employment, apparently. Mind control over players who weren't even with the organization!

Just another guy for Quinn to ruin. smh

They need to at least start winning some games already. Their lead in that third spot not full proof.

19 games to go. Any of 11-8, 10-9, 9-9-1 should be enough to hold off the opposition, but they need to get back to form soon.

This week are two games they better show up for. A tanking Montreal and Kane making a homecoming to Buffalo.

They need to play the Penguins well, and they owe the Capitals a little payback.

Rangers D were backing in before Ruff arrived.

We talked about having one competent puck mover per pairing.

Frankly I don't think we gave Jones enough slack in development this season.
He struggled, but it bothers me that he got 16 games and 7'3" Ben Harpur has played 27 already.

A lot of teams around the league still think being 8 inches closer to the ceiling (not much when you think about it) is somehow an inherent skill even you accomplish absolutely nothing with it.

And that's a tree like Harpur. Normal players have 3, 4 inches on Jones. Does it really matter?

I hate to Harp on it (har har!) but you can't tell me Jones doesn't get a whole season to work it out if he's 6'2".

If you don't believe me, Braden Schneider.

Othman was born for that right side powerplay one timer and he probably wont ever sniff it because of “urn it”
Because he''s an amazing CHL player, he should get handed the spot before landing in NY and if he sucks and ets traded for garbage and a 7th in 3 years, it's because of the coach, a former star winger. E-a-r-n it.

I think 'range' still matters a lot in a defenseman. I look at Kevin Shattenkirk as an example of an offensive dman that is just flat out bad defensively because they lack the physical tools. Shatty couldn't get anyone off the puck. And he didn't have enough reach (nor was he as clever as players like Fox or Zibby) when it came to tying up opposing sticks legally when defending.

It's why K'Andre Miller will always be capable of making defensive plays that Jones never will. It still helps to have size as a defenseman, just matters a heck of a lot less than it used to.

And I agree that there's an old-school "Run-game first" mentality of low risk defenseman leading to a bias towards players like Stu Bickel and Ben Harpur and away from guys like Adam Clendening or Gavin Bayreuther. Teams don't like having offensive defensemen on the third pairing. Look at the list of top scoring defenseman by ice time and check how often theyre playing- with the exception of DeAngelo they're pretty much all playing in the top 4 at least.

So the old school bias hurt Jones, Reunanen, Clendening, Poeck, Diaz over the years.
