Let's be real real here. Mikkola is a solid 3rd pair D that has had to play first pair for the last 3 games. He played 23 minutes tonight being down a defenseman. His average TOI before these last string of games was around 14 or 15 minutes.

Cut the guy some slack.
He's an OK 3rd pairing defensive defenseman. He's not the issue but he's also not the defenseman we really needed with Schneider as the RD on that pairing.

we could've taken the packages that got Tarasenko and Kane, added a prospect or two and ended up with Timo Meier, then still had some room for a D better than Mikkola and a 4th line forward. the perfect pieces primed for a Cup run. instead we've been sitting in our own diarrhea for two weeks. half-assed.

I wanted 1977 Guy Lafleur. Got the 1988 version

I wanted 1979 Marcel Dionne. Got 1989 version

I wanted the 1986 Tim Kerr. Got the 1992 version

I wanted the 1995 Eric Lindros. Got the 2004 version.

I wanted the 2012 Marty St Louis. Got a good playoff run then his game fell off a cliff.

Phil Esposito, Pavel Bure, Wayne Gretzky, Jaromir Jagr and obviously Mark Messier worth it.

Jari Kurri, Pat La Fontaine. Shot legs on one. Head on the other.

Patrick Kane, you're up.

I’m not Arizona. The NYR are not Arizona. We traded for cap space to accommodate a superstar. Because cap space meant make or break on the deal. The cap space we cleared was all that mattered, if it as 50k or 500k we needed it, the monetary value was less than nothing to us. The cap space was the OPPOSITE of phantom in this deal for us, it was paramount. This is beyond evident. It was the ENTIRE reason the transaction took place.

The NYR paid too much because of what was important to ARIZONA. Market value for retaining $175K was lower than what the NYR paid. What's important to Arizona is THE MONEY, not the CAP HIT. They don't give two shits about the cap hit. It's all about the Benjamins.

Clearly, by the amount of money actually paid in other retention deals, the Rangers paid too much and could have probably found a suitor elsewhere for less. Or at least they should have.

We can agree to disagree.

Keep in mind discussing ignore lists is a no no. :)
I wish we could do away with Ingore Lists.

What's the point of a message board if you just want an echo chamber?

I can't believe this team watches Harpur play and didn't think an upgrade was necessary.

Yes, we have our top4LHD missing... but if one gets hurt it means he's playing.... They obviously do not trust Jones and Robertson is an unknown.

LIndros came here in 2001 and average dover a point a game for the Rangers that season. He was actually really good until the concussions kept coming.

Kerr was already shot in 1990

Guy was a thousand years old as was Marcel and I think the training regimen was, er, quite "different" back then.

St. Louis cost waaaaaaay to much for a guy with one team he wanted to go to. I think Sather was on crack for that trade as good as the playoff run was.

That’s just objectively wrong. This trade was all about the NYR’s needs , not what was important to Arizona. Arizona NEEDED nothing out of this deal. WE needed cap space. The NYR paid a price inline with the majority of retention deals. The MTL retention deal was the outlier. And even if you want to agree to disagree on that, we paid what we NEEDED to pay to finalize a deal for an elite player. But I think we both think we are right so it’s all good brother, I’ll drop it.

The most ironic thing about our deadline this year.

We refused to play Kravtsov all year because GG was worried about the lineup being too soft.

We get rid of Kravy but add Tarasenko and Kane and now have exactly 3 forwards who seem to play a grinding style. And one of them has a concussion.

I get we're playing short-handed. I get that Kane is new and Tarasenko is still new.

But it is a very very very weird turn of events where we get rid of Kravy and give Gallant a far softer lineup in the process.

Look, it still may work out, this Kane move and the Tarasenko move.

But the notion of, "Hey why shouldn't we add Kane? We're hardly giving up anything." It's not nothing. Adding Kane meant not adding more forward depth. It meant shifting the entire lineup around in a way it was never designed to shift. Everyone complaining about Vesey or Hunt or Fast or Blackwell being in the top 6-- i really hope you're paying attention to what happens when you remove all the 200 ft players from the top 9.

For this lineup to work, players who are not necessarily known for playing a more gritty 200 ft game are going to need to find it in themselves to sacrifice for the team and play that way.

I mean, I suppose the good news is, that conditional pick in the Kane deal is very likely going to be a 2nd rounder unless this team figures out many many things between now and end of season.

I could honestly see us missing the playoffs as absolutely crazy as that sounds. The mix or players just looks really off right now.
They’ll make the playoffs but the whole Kravtsov saga sucked. So childish.

I love when [any player who got traded/waived] does [literally anything] and we post about it.

A+
Ottawa has another good game last night.....anyone know if Gauthier is getting any points ? I have not had time to check the splits for his Ottawa games......team is doing good though.....hope they get in and play Bruins.....Tkachuck will give them all they want to handle.

This team needs a Tkachuk in the worst way. Keith did is all a disservice by stopping at two.
