Elliotte Friedman discussed Arizona acquiring the contracts of injured players to reach the floor. The players association is not happy. Players and agents aren't happy. Spirit of the CBA. Bullshit. The NHL warns teams about acquiring players and putting him on LTIR with the purpose of activating them in the playoffs. Nyqvist. Minnesota has cap space so they don’t need to put the player on LTIR until the playoffs. The reverse occurred in Arizona and the NHL is quiet. That is not violating the spirit of the CBA? Bettman and Daly are frauds.

Arizona is a ponzi/money laundering scheme. They are reaching the floor with cap hits and paying out nothing. They will have three contracts on long-term IR next season. Voracek. Weber. Little. $21,398,810. Voracek's base salary is $7.5M next season but insurance will pick up the tab for most of the $7.5M. $8.25M cap hit. Weber is owed $1M. His cap hit is $7,857,143. Little's cap hit is $5,291,667 cap hit. $3.75M salary. Insurance is paying the majority of that contract.
I've been playing Powerball and Mega Millions...

I'm trying guys.

Reactions: Go Rangers
The most ironic thing about our deadline this year.

We refused to play Kravtsov all year because GG was worried about the lineup being too soft.

We get rid of Kravy but add Tarasenko and Kane and now have exactly 3 forwards who seem to play a grinding style. And one of them has a concussion.

I get we're playing short-handed. I get that Kane is new and Tarasenko is still new.

But it is a very very very weird turn of events where we get rid of Kravy and give Gallant a far softer lineup in the process.

Look, it still may work out, this Kane move and the Tarasenko move.

But the notion of, "Hey why shouldn't we add Kane? We're hardly giving up anything." It's not nothing. Adding Kane meant not adding more forward depth. It meant shifting the entire lineup around in a way it was never designed to shift. Everyone complaining about Vesey or Hunt or Fast or Blackwell being in the top 6-- i really hope you're paying attention to what happens when you remove all the 200 ft players from the top 9.

For this lineup to work, players who are not necessarily known for playing a more gritty 200 ft game are going to need to find it in themselves to sacrifice for the team and play that way.

I mean, I suppose the good news is, that conditional pick in the Kane deal is very likely going to be a 2nd rounder unless this team figures out many many things between now and end of season.

I could honestly see us missing the playoffs as absolutely crazy as that sounds. The mix or players just looks really off right now.

20 93 88
10 16 91
13 72 24

Please just make it happen and stop pretending bread and Kane are 26 years old still...
I want:

13 93 88
10 72 91
20 16 24

Kane passing to Zib and Laf would be beautiful. Panarin passing to Chytil and Tarasenko--same thing. Kreids, Trocheck, and Kakko offers a different look and a bit of a match up line. We can't win with just two lines, and now that he has a few more vets, it's clear that GG is back to his "play the kids together so I can bench the kids together" philosophy.

I will say, I've never quite understood the Mikkola acquisition. 1.9 million. Basically just a younger Harpur.

Why not pay a 3rd and go get Schenn. Why not pay a 4th to get Braun from Philly. Or literally any other defenseman that checks Gallants and Drurys "veteran defensive" 3rd pair quotas. Then we'd have an 800k defender thats probably better than Mikkola AND have the cap to call up an extra forward/defenseman so we weren't playing shorthanded

I could absolutely get behind this except that 13 constantly differs when he plays with better players, putting him with 88 would literally be asking him to do nothing except just stare at Kane and imagine the glory of his old mullet

The Kane retention was $175K to Arizona and actual dollars is all Arizona cares about. Cap space is meaningless to them at this point being a floor team - it might help with leverage a little bit, but what they're actually paying is a lot more important to Arizona than phantom cap space.
I’m not Arizona. The NYR are not Arizona. We traded for cap space to accommodate a superstar. Because cap space meant make or break on the deal. The cap space we cleared was all that mattered, if it as 50k or 500k we needed it, the monetary value was less than nothing to us. The cap space was the OPPOSITE of phantom in this deal for us, it was paramount. This is beyond evident. It was the ENTIRE reason the transaction took place.

I didn't hate the Mikkola acquisition, but I didn't really get it either. Picking up a vet tells kids like Jones and Robertson "we don't think you're quite ready yet, so we picked up a stop-gap." Picking up longer term pieces sends them a very different message. I really hoped that Robertson would have gotten a cup of coffee with the big team this season. There was no reason NOT to run him out for a few games.

He's got to put the big boy britches on sooner or later. He has been shooting the puck more lately. I agree though, that that's a psychological barrier he needs to get over if he wants to have any chance at hitting his potential.

Here's the potential scenarios.

This team flops and Turk gets canned, plenty of responsibility there.

This team flops and Drury gets canned, he took a team the team a few steps backwards back to the Pre Wilson incident.

This team flops with Panarin's friends and we trade Panarin and retool. Makes for plenty of Cap room for Miller chytil and someone better in thr trenches.

One or two of Kreider, Goodrow, Trouba get moved - cap reality

One of chytil, kakko, Laf get moved - classic Dark time Rangers move

Going all in at the deadline with two big name additions was pure folly. Like I said previously, Tarasenko was quiet the first few games so the FO thought they had a lemon. They panicked and went for Kane too, who thus far is worse than Tarasenko ever was.

Now we're stuck with too many soft, skill players and not enough minutes in a game to make best use of them.

Getting stuck in the Kane+Panarin are aWeSOmE! thinking really won't work. Panarin is forcing the puck to Kane every time he touches the ice. Split them up ASAP.

I'd keep the kids together. Get Kane off PP1 and let Zibby do what he does best. As it is, I'd sooner not see Kane get PP time at all until he proves he's healthy and settled. Give him (and Panarin) short leashes, like they do with the kids.

I don't think Mikkola has been that bad. He is being asked to do something that is out of his league. Get either Lindgren or Miller back and he can slot back into a normal spot.

Is it possible to recall Jones with our current cap or does he make too much to qualify for the emergency call up?

Not all these things are mutually exclusive but I feel you
