Rangers are getting Kane, Tarasenko, Mikkola & Motte for less than the Devils gave up for Meier. Good move for them though, they have their Kovalchuk. We still have deeper and better roster than them with loads more experience. I’ll be rooting for the Devils to finish #1, I prefer the early matchup against the Canes
I am fine facing either.

Full trade. Don't know who these other players SJ moved are.

Edit: sounds like those players are former 6th round picks from a few years back that are in the echl. Seems like they were included to balance out contracts.

I'd agree its a much better deal if they lock him up. It is a great deal for them. But if they don't I think that is a steep price.
It’s steep if he’s a rental but still, a team like NJ is positioned better than basically any of their contender in the league to make a trade like this and not even feel it at all.

Their farm is totslly stacked already. They’ve made so many picks the last few years, most of them good. Their NHL roster is full of young talent. They won the lottery 3 times in the last 6 years. They have a guy who’s probably already a top 5 center in the NHL and he’s only 22.

They traded none of their tippy top prospects, unless we’re counting that Shakir guy who sure was a first rounder but they have Nemec and Luke Hughes in the wings. They didn’t give up either of them or Holtz or Mercer. Nobody of real significance from the roster or the farm. Worst case is they lose two (late) firsts. Which bc of how good and plentiful the young talent in their organization is, they’ll barely even notice.

This is basically a fleecing when considering the context. True quantity over quality.

What makes them stacked? Please do tell.

And no sorry youre not simply praising another team. Youre going on and on ridiculing this organization. Its whiny and tiresome. If you love what the Devils have done so much and hate what the Rangers have done, I shared the link to their board. The Rangers couldnt afford Meier, both in assets required to acquire and the ability to extend. And I am sure youre next bitching and moaning complaint will be about contracts handed out. Well without Panarin right now (who took less money to be here) we wouldnt be having elite scorers pushing their way here for less than market value.

Cannot wait for the playoffs. I love our team. Its not perfect but no playoff team is.

they're already ahead of us in the standings and they added one of the best power forwards in the league, do I have to spell it out for you?

and yeah this is a discussion forum where we talk about the Rangers, in a thread called "roster building discussion", how dare I criticize them when I think they screwed up? the "go root for another team then" spiel is such a weak cop out.

I don't disagree. They are in a better position to do this though than we are and at its core, I think that is what a lot of people here are upset at. The Devils rebuild is how they wanted our rebuild to go. Hischier and Hughes are progressing how we wanted Kakko and Laf to progress.

We couldn't make that move, even if we could have beat their offer. We would have truly nothing left and we can't afford to re-sign him.

The return for Meier is massive. Wtf are some of you talking about?

2023 and cond. 2024 1sts, Andreas Johnsson, N. Okhotiuk, S. Mukhamadullin, F. Zetterlund

there's a lot of 'mids' in there.

the 1sts are the most valuable... It looks like a trade proposal I would come up with. Give up the 1sts and throw a bunch of mid tier prospects

That 1st in 2023 is like a top 10 in other drafts. Drury got both the Bruins and Devils to deal their 1sts. Now it’s the Canes turn and we’ll be laughing at the draft.

The Devils rebuild is how they wanted our rebuild to go.

nah this isn't it. I was fine with how the team was positioned before the Tarasenko trade. I thought Meier was the right guy, even as a rental. one, to keep him away from a rival and two, because he was exactly what we needed. i think the way the rest of the league is set up this year and with the way our team is set, with none of the kids making money yet, this could absolutely be our only chance at a cup with this core. it's going to be impossible to keep it together, plus our veterans aren't getting any younger either. we are almost definitely not going to have the cap room this time next year to make a splash like Meier (and there's even less of a chance a player like him will be available). after it seemed like we weren't in on Meier, I was hoping it was because the asking price for him was astronomical (Laf, Chytil or Kakko etc), but clearly it wasn't. we could've offered something similar and not had it ruin our farm system. now is he not only not on our team, but he's on a team we'll have to go through in the playoffs. it was a unique situation where it made sense to go all out for a rental player IMO.

The Sharks are going to be rebuilding forever. No idea why Hertl signed there when he could’ve been a Ranger. Watch Grier screw up the Karlsson deal.

The Andersson & Kravtsov picks were very detrimental to our rebuild. For whatever reason - it is that simple. The rest is going to be very good I think

trade 2 firsts and a recent former first to block a player from another team. Sounds like some D and D type S. And I don't know S about D and D cause I'm a former high major D O B O.

i can't praise another team for making a no-brainer move? the devils are f***ing stacked. everyone should be as pissed off as i am right now.

Pissed off at what? What have the Devils accomplished over the last 10 years? A good regular season this year? One playoff appearance?

We probably should've taken the 10 year road to a "rebuild" and playoff berth, eh?

I'm not sold on the Devils D, or system, come playoff time.

Andersson busting set this team back years. Have said it since he was traded.
and Kravtsov. And Howden being dogshit. And Hajek. And inexplicably drafting Lindf*** over literally anyone else in that 2018 2nd Round. And Lundkvist. And Kakko being a massive disappointment. And Laf being an even bigger disappointment.

There was absolutely no room for Kak/Laf to underperform with all the bad picks we made and welp, look where we are.

both teams have 0 cups over the past 10 years so who cares about them. it's about this season right now.

not sure if you're new to the sport, but he'd get to play on our team as well. it's a win-win!
