Mikkola might end up being the most important add .....I can also see him being the goat if it goes sideways easily enough . It seems like he is all in on some plays ....kind of a gambler . I think he has been trying really hard and I would like to see him just dumb his game down and make the simple play . I hold out hope that he fits in like a glove after the reg season ends . Because of his size....he could be huge in round one .
I really like him. He has great tools. Not sold yet on the toolbox. That’s, of course, the question. But he’s big, mobile, and fearless. That’s a good start.

Who does everyone prefer to see play the Bruins in round one ? Isles/Pens/Sabres ???? Who will give them the hardest go ? Has to be Isles or Pens ....I prefer the Isles ..I think they pound them a bit harder and the goalie could steal a series.
I don’t really care. Every team is a wild card. The Rangers need to focus on their game and the rest will fall into place.
That said…For entertainment reasons only, I’d like to see the Rangers beat two of the Devils, Caps, or Islanders. (I appreciate that the Caps are prohlbably not a playoff team). I’m tired of Carolina and Pittsburgh. After that, probably Toronto. That would be a crazy circus.
Though knocking TB or Boston out would be fun, too.

Glad that Brooksie already has his trade the skill for will articles lined up if we end up losing a tough playoff series.

I wonder who will be his main target that he’s hoping for all offseason.

It won’t be Jeannot after Tampa signs him to some insane 8x$2M contract, but he’ll probably wax poetic about it that Drury never made that move.

It’s definitely going to be something terrible like Lafreniere for Lawson Crouse or Panarin for Jaden Schwartz, Jamie Oleksiak and a 1st, so save yourself the outrage now when he’s potentially writing that article in three months.

If the Wild don’t trade him by Friday, he will definitely push Jordan Greenway this summer.

I think the new era of GMs are much smarter than the old guard. The Sakics, Yzermans, Guerins, Drurys, etc. are significantly better than the Hollands, Hextalls, Wilsons, etc. I think we all still live in the trauma of the old days, but the new guys are slowly taking over and better trades are happening because of it. The new GMs don't have a disdain for young players like the old guys seemed too so when they make a trade they actually know a thing or 2 about the prospects they want back.

They make more shrewd moves. They don't blow their picks in quite the same fashion. I mean JBB just traded every pick this year, but he also has a sick team that added another prime age tough to play against and perfect for their roster. We will see how Grier does moving forward in SJ. I wonder if there are some other GMs on the hot seat at the end of the year.

I, also, think a lot of these guys clearly are working deals they are trying to make as even as possible. There is something to be said about fair negotiation, cause you might have to come back later for a favor. That stuff matters too and happens more than some here think.
Agree. And likewise, when they make trades now I am very reluctant to say ‘they got ripped off’. There’s usually good reasoning happening. We may not like it, but we also don’t know everything that’s happening. (Though we also know more than ever).

As for Jeannot, he’s right in the sweet spot for trade value. Still RFA, still developing, but on the edge - potentially…probably - of breaking out.
I think GMs consider too-young as much of a handicap as too-old. Development time is considered a drag on an organization. Like it or not. It pays off, sure. But it’s not a sure-thing. GMs will overpay for a ready-made young-enough product; clearly.

Brooks on the Post podcast is already talking about trading one of the kids for grit this summer if this group doesn't get it done. Being a Ranger fan is emotionally exhausting, good grief.
That’s why I really try to take it as it comes. I love watching the games and I enjoy chatting about what we see and I have time for lineup talk and even discussing what’s gonna happen next year. But beyond that, it’s too crazy. My brain isn’t big enough. But that’s what’s great about this board, I can glean a lot of really interesting info and analysis that’s out of my view.
So, thank you all.

Panarin’s shown more grit and compete than Kreider this season
One thing with Kreider is, he is such a smooth athlete it’s kind of hard to tell his compete level. I’ve always given him the benefit of the doubt though I have issues with where he spends some of his time in the attack zone. Wish he’d be more of an even strength netfront disturber. But aside from that I think he’s a great middle-six forward. But I also have loved Panarin lately.

Brooks thought Kravstov for Jeannot one for one would get it done

He’s clueless lol
I’ll admit I thought VK plus maybe a sweetener would have done it. I imagined more value for VK around the league and less for Jeannot because of a down year. But clearly I was wrong. I think the league is assuming Kravtsov is done with the NHL for now and so is strictly a two month gamble. At least that’s his value. I was believing the ‘VK earnestly trying to make it work’ hype.

I think Tarasenko clicking with Laf and Chytil would be even better, the kid line dominates the puck but doesn’t score enough, Zib-Kreider score but suck at controlling the puck in the zone , Kakko and Tarasenko swapping could solve both issues and give us 3 great lines
Also, Gallant likes using the Kreider-Zib pairing as the backbone of a matchup line against the opposition's top lines. Makes sense to put one of our best defensive forwards with them over Tarasenko, who I'm pretty sure is convinced that "the defensive zone" is a mythical realm.

Arizona overplayed their hand and every team that was interested went with their plan b’s and Arizona was left without a dance partner in the end

In hindsight you don't trade for Tarasenko and Mikkola but get Chychrun at that price. Would have fit without retention. But than again I don't know if we get Kane at that price in that case.

This has to be the craziest deadline I've ever seen. Maybe not, but I'm struggling to think of a more active one league-wide in the last 20 years.

Kane and Tarasenko were the right moves due to the lack of depth on the rw. Chychrun would have been Yandle 2.0, what pairing is he playing on and who’s he bumping down? And what power play time would he have gotten with Fox already on the first unit?

I'm nitpicking but you can't just have 11 forwards and say it would fit.

Yep. Don't want to shorten it because I enjoy the games, but the regular season is too long. And there's too little benefit to finishing high in the standings now with the new division formats.

8 seed vs 1 seed matchups used to be my favorite to watch as a casual viewer. Especially when Hasek played for the Sabres.
Actually 1 vs 8 is the least impacted by the format change. It’s 4 vs 5 and 3 vs 6 that got impacted the most.
