Here I was all season thinking the Rangers didn’t have the cap space to outdo last year’s deadline, and Drury goes out and gets Kane, Tarasenko, Motte and Mikkola.

The accumulating exponential cap space all season trick and then getting other teams to retain, really makes nearly anything attainable for any team, if you have nearly any space at the start of the year.

Mikkola might end up being the most important add .....I can also see him being the goat if it goes sideways easily enough . It seems like he is all in on some plays ....kind of a gambler . I think he has been trying really hard and I would like to see him just dumb his game down and make the simple play . I hold out hope that he fits in like a glove after the reg season ends . Because of his size....he could be huge in round one .

Garland is much more Pittsburgh’s type. They’ve already got Rust and Zucker Midas whale add a 3rd
Who does everyone prefer to see play the Bruins in round one ? Isles/Pens/Sabres ???? Who will give them the hardest go ? Has to be Isles or Pens ....I prefer the Isles ..I think they pound them a bit harder and the goalie could steal a series.

Yes and no. We'd create nearly 3 mil in LTIR cap space, but if we use it to acquire players, we'd then have to waive someone when Lindgren comes back. We could call up players who don't need waivers, but it's really not a good idea.

We need to save as much cap as we can between now and the end of the season so we have cap space left over to pay any earned performance bonuses. If we are using LTIR cap space, then we aren't banking any cap space.
Any idea on how it looks with regard to bonus dollars going out for the team ? Are we close to hitting any of them ?

I keep thinking how well Copp and Vatrano filled out the lineup last year and this years version is Kane and Tarasenko.

Not to mention Motte-Motte, Mikkola>Braun, Vesey>Reaves. Plus 20+ playoff games experience for everyon, the kids a year older and 4 added Cups.

The East as a whole has improved, but damn.

On PAPER, this is a Cup team. That has to be the goal from the onset

I think the new era of GMs are much smarter than the old guard. The Sakics, Yzermans, Guerins, Drurys, etc. are significantly better than the Hollands, Hextalls, Wilsons, etc. I think we all still live in the trauma of the old days, but the new guys are slowly taking over and better trades are happening because of it. The new GMs don't have a disdain for young players like the old guys seemed too so when they make a trade they actually know a thing or 2 about the prospects they want back.

They make more shrewd moves. They don't blow their picks in quite the same fashion. I mean JBB just traded every pick this year, but he also has a sick team that added another prime age tough to play against and perfect for their roster. We will see how Grier does moving forward in SJ. I wonder if there are some other GMs on the hot seat at the end of the year.

I, also, think a lot of these guys clearly are working deals they are trying to make as even as possible. There is something to be said about fair negotiation, cause you might have to come back later for a favor. That stuff matters too and happens more than some here think.

Beginning of the season I was hoping Shesty would be good enough to push us from a playoff roster to a cup roster.

Now if anything I'm more concerned about his consistency and the possibility of a cold streak in the playoffs than I am the group in front of him.

I dont think it will come to this but if he stumbles in the playoffs I have much more confidence in Halak keeping us in games than I did with Georgiev. Jaro has lots of playoff moments to fall back on.

Panarin’s shown more grit and compete than Kreider this season
My personal theory is that Kreider is saving his best effort for the playoffs.

We lost last season because we ran out of juice, and everyone knows it. I think the mentality from a lot of the veterans this season has been 'let's get to the playoffs, then ratchet up the intensity'

I was just thinking the same thing. Fox seems to be saving some bullets as well.

It sounds like cope but that’s my hope as well
