Tells you how much toughness is overrated.

Hard to play against is more important. Kakko is hard to play against. Chytil and Lafreniere have the size and skill to be hard to play against, though they have to develop that part of their game more. Trocheck and Kreider are hard to play against (sometimes, especially in Kreider's case).

What you can't have is too many floaters like Panarin.

But guys like Reaves and Blais just couldn't play, or at least not play in this system (amazingly Blais has 2 goals since leaving like 2 weeks ago). Getting "toughness" that is just toughness for toughness' sake is a waste.

You need skilled players first, second, third, and fourth. It then helps if some of them can play a tough game in addition to their skill.

I notice no Blackhawks fans posted or commented on this on their board.

Crickets.

Team toughness matters. Having 1 or 2 plugs that have the lateral mobility of a boat is not helpful.

I also refuse to call Kane or Tarasenko "soft". You dont have the careers and win as much as those guys have being soft.

I'm gonna bet the return is Jones or Robertson, and a conditional first in 2024, but that the conditions are more likely to be met than not. And maybe some filler.

Just saying.

The Hawks, even in accomodating Kane, aren't gonna want to look like they were taken advantage of. If guys like Jeannot command an entire draft, Kane, a Hall of Famer, still averaging 0.83 ppg this year, will have to have at least the possibility of a first in the deal.

I won't love it.

If the condition of the first is winning the cup then i wont care. But from all we have heard a first isnt in play.

The absolutely proper lines to start should be:

Panarin-Trochek-Tarasenko
Kreider-Zibanejad-Kane
Lafreniere-Chytil-Kaako
Motte-Goodrow-Vesey

If needed, the swap to make is Kane --> Kaako
What I like here is that kids line (as well as the new 4th line obviously) stays together at least initially while Gallant can try to figure out best combinations with the vets. Personally I’d change centers while keeping these wingers duos.

A lot of underestimating the Devils. They are a very good team. Nothing is going to be easy in the East. Likely a lot of 6 and 7 game series.
Very true....we likely are also one hit away from disaster striking us. There will undoubtedly be an equal amount of running at Adam Fox/Shesty/Panarin and likely not always clean hits ....likely some late high ones at every chance.....one good hit by Devils Wood or McLeod would be worth giving up one PP opp if it means Fox/Shesty gets hurt ......they by far are much easier targets then Hughes in all reality . Make no mistake about it...that will be the early Devil game plan .

I really doubt any team can handle losing one of its biggest players from a dirty hit. Thats not unique to the Rangers. And having a guy like Reaves doesn't prevent those types of hits from happening. Not much we can do if other teams are head hunting.(Except punish them on the PP)

Wood or McLeod would get the shit kicked out of them by like 4-5 different Rangers lol, and in McLeod's case he has by Kreider.

The rangers are gonna get outplayed physically and be worn down against teams like Boston and tb. Islanders to if they make even devil are tougher. We added soft players and lost grit and toughness this year.
This is just wrong. Did you watch the Calgary game a few weeks ago? Rangers are as physical or even more so than most teams. They can play any style that is required. The Devils are tougher? LMAO. When things get serious come playoff time this team will be a nightmare to play against.

But if we had Ritchie, Bjugstad, and Domi we'd be so much better than Kane and Tarasenko. But Tom Wilson!!! /s

They are too small to be instigating that type of game, if they wanna play that way they'll get their ass handed to them. They'd be smart to just use their speed.

The most important part of "toughness" in the modern NHL is ability/willingness to battle in front of the net. It's the area where refs let a lot more go in the old-school 'protect the crease' mentality.

Soo if you've got a blueliner who can clear the crease, or a forward willing to stick his nose in when he knows it's gonna get punched in, that's valuable toughness.
