Who cares what they did, its about what they will do on the Rangers. Eric Staal, Yandle, Boyle, Shattenkirk, etc, etc, etc, were good at one point to before they came to the Rangers.
And they got guys like Copp, Vatrano and Motte last year, all of who performed well. Tarasenko and especially Kane are a cut above those players dude. They both can still play and it's not like the Rangers sold the farm for either of them if reports on Kane return are correct. It's a no brainer. Plus they added Mikkola and Motte to the mix also. This is a really good team.

Tarasenko and Kane both gave up on their current teams, yet they are going to fully commit to the Rangers winning?

Panarin last playoffs was committed to winning?

I dislike Trouba's game, not the hits, his actual game, pinching when he is bad at it, not being able to keep up skating, yet he wants to win. Lindgren, Zbad, Fox, Goodrow, Vesey, I don't doubt their drive.

Kane, Tarasenko, Panarin, Kreider? to each their own on how they perceive those players efforts when it comes down to it, we'll see I guess.

(jfyi, I think you are a good poster, one of the more knowledgeable non shill ones who posts here, I just disagree that the players the Rangers are importing here, Kane, Tara, are going to do much of anything outside of random production when it matters least)

Their teams gave up, thats why one of them is here and the other one is on their way. Chicago has been straight ass for 2 seasons and they gave up 2 pretty key pieces for relatively paltry returns last summer.

FWIW, I wouldn't link Panarin's playoff performance last year to his commitment to winning. He played like an idiot 85% of the time.

Anyway, here is my problem with statements like this - Every single person in here (well, 99% of us) and their mothers said the SAME EXACT THING about Zibanejad through the first 5 games and the first period of game 6 of the Pittsburgh series. 2 periods and 14 games later hes a God. Did his hunger kick in a bit later? Or did the pucks just start going in for him?

I think there are many reasons why adding guys like Kane and Tarasenko may not work out, I just don't think a lack of commitment to winning is one of them. Their physical ability and Gallant worry me way more than their will. I'll go as far as to say that we won't have a single thing to worry about with Kane as far as his willingness to win and perform goes. He has a VERY strong ego and a ton of doubt around him. He's forever been fueled by that kind of stuff. Even if its completely self serving, if it manifests itself into positive on ice production, no one should really care.

Last deadline they added players who wanted to win, they had the drive.

Kane, Tara, maybe they'll surprise me, I am not trying to act like I know everything, yet they don't strike me as players who really give a F anymore about winning a Cup, they seem like players who just want the notoriety of playing for the Rangers. (maybe cause they are pending UFAs who want to be seen? again I don't know)

I think your narrative that they don't want to win is completely false. They wanted to come to the Rangers because they actually do want to win as both of their teams have proven that they are not winning any time soon.

Zbad is a gamer, regardless of points, above a pt per game last playoffs, he plays against the other best centers in the league and hold his own, and on the PP he is a serious weapon, and he plays the PK.

Panarin is a different story, you can not honestly say you do not know that.

Has Tarasenko looked like an asset to you?

What does Kane do well, right now, not like 2 years ago? He is talented I'll give him that, yet on a team that needs gamers, is he really going to be that? Ehh

I don't know where you come up with this stuff. Kane is the definition of a gamer. He excels when the stakes get high. Chicago would not have won 3 cups without him.

How many years ago was that?

Rangers need players that will play their hearts out for them, players who will go beyond their normal game and do things outside of it, whether that is back-checking, blocking shots... stuff they are not know for doing. I don't think Kane or Tarasenko are those players.

I don't care how many years ago it was. I was responding to you saying Kane wasn't a gamer which is completely false No, they aren't 4th line grinders. It doesn't mean they don't play hard and can't help the team win by playing their game. The facts are they both wanted to come here because they both want to win. We will see how it plays out.

We'll see, I agree,

Ranger building their team based on players who want to come play for them if the contract is enough, or through cronyism, or coaching/management remembrance of years prior is a different issue.

Kane was a Gamer, he's 34 now. He only started play well recently, maybe that means he can do it when he wants, not so much he thinks he has to.

Anyway, we are Ranger fans, I just don't see this deadline as moves which will help them win the Cup, to me they've tried this stuff before whether at the deadline or in the off-season and so far, in the past ~30 years, it has not ultimately worked.

2 NYR scouts watched Hawks vs Ducks last night? Who would they be looking at?

For some reason, Tarasenko has been okay with being a cog in the wheel. Like he’s not nec driving play or demanding the puck. If anything he seems a bit timid or unsure or lazy at times.

But I get the sense Kane may be more motivated. I do think he’s used to being center of attention. And I get the sense he’s going to want to succeed right away and if not he’ll show frustration. I think he may be a good jolt for the team. But if he comes in and is a bit laid back or deferring it could have a negative effect. I think the team is almost expecting him to come in with a bit of a messier like ego. And it’s likely created a sense of uncertainty. But if Kane can bring it and come with high expectations of his teammates that’s a good thing.

I want Kane to walk in to that locker room
and tell his teammates I’m only here for one reason - to win one more cup. Anything else is total failure. Like get everyone focused right now on getting to a higher level. But we’ll see.

So expectation is that the trade will be announced today at 5:05pm ET to get Kanes cap for tomorrow? This way he can dress for the game against Flyers and Schneider can be called up before the game also?

Then dress and not play Lindgren if K'Andre is suspended? If not keep RL off and run Miller,Mikkola,Harpur on the left? Or is there still some cap work to be done to dress all available defencemen?

This is a name I have heard several times (from the Californians I know, not @NYR as they say very very little for the most part). Big, cheap #7/#8 depth defender that can handle the rough stuff in an eventual ECF. They might add one more piece (with Ducks picking up $100.000 prorated which is nothing) on D and then waive Harpur. He likely goes unclaimed anyways. We will see.

Can the Rangers afford him? Someone would have to go back, I suppose. Maybe Carpenter and a fourth?

Points per game this season

Timo Meier 0.91
Patrick Kane 0.83

He’s still got it imo.

But I’m also keeping my expectations low. I mean what else should you do as a Rangers fan. 1 cup in 82 years
…and again, to your point, Kane out produced Meier last season, pretty substantially, on one hip.

Interesting. Thanks for the info as always. I’m currently on Euro hours with the few of you Europeans on this board. Tough to keep up with the rumors when you’re six hours ahead.

The Rangers can make the Kane deal today after 5pm and it would count for cap purposes on Wednesday.

Will Miller be suspended? He was supposed to have a hearing but no suspension was announced. Is the hearing today?

The Rangers were planning for option #1 before Miller got a match penalty and a hearing from the NHL

Lindgren was seen in the Rangers room after the game on Sunday. He didn't seem to be seriously hurt. He was wearing a suit. No sling.

Vancouver had space but they cleared money with the Stillman trade.
