Danault is pricing himself out of NY anyway.

Love the player, but not at 5 yrs, 6.5 AAV.

If I'm spending that money this offseason, I'm bringing back Buch.

That makes more sense.

The players who can make the biggest positive impact on this team are, in no order, goalie, top line, top pair. The guys who play the most minutes, in the most important situations. Until they get that right, and paid for, no amount of secondary or tertiary players are going to make that much of a difference.

I'm not fully on board with Danault but there's more than one factor here.

Buchnevich is a finesse winger of which we have many.

Danault is a defensive center of which we arguably have zero.

Danault is a UFA whereas Buchnevich is worth quite a lot in a potential trade.

yup probably smart to pass cause other teams will over pay

that’s the hard part of Ufa hunting. May need to try for bargains

Buch was awesome on the PK. Just find a cheaper 3 C.
The teams gonna be in on trades like Jenner from CLB

Disagree. I think the Rangers could sign him to a reasonable deal assuming Danault does NOT want to return to Montreal. Most teams either:

1) Don't have cap space
2) Haven't made much money since COVID and owners are unwilling to take on much salary and term

Look at how many decent players went unclaimed this year because of cap and money concerns (Tyler Johnson and Adam Henrique come to mind immediately)

Idk why Boone Jenner has built up this reputation as a good two-way 3C, but he’s actually very bad defensively. If there’s someone you want to target from CBJ to boost the bottom-6, it’s Eric Robinson. He’s one of the few players that actually meet the criteria of being gritty and having positive impacts on the ice.

Signing Danault with the money freed up by trading Buch makes a lot of sense, but Im terrified of what Danault will be in his mid-30s with a 6-6.5 cap hit

The guy shut down Matthew's and Marner over a 7 game series. Someone is absolutely going to overpay for him.

Who is the better investment? Danault on a UFA deal or trading the assets it would take to get Lindholm out of Calgary?

Who's the better overall player? Who fits our "needs" the best?

with Danault he’s going to want top 6 minutes so Strome has to go. They can keep Chytil at C this way but it’s a risk

I would like to think another C could do well w Strome

I think they are Grooming Barron for that spot. In the interim they are content to keep Chytil there to see if he can make headway on the 2C position or they feel like they can move him for an upgrade. I have no doubt Cirelli in Tampa will be available, they need the cap room, plus we have a long history of trading with each other. I wouldn’t be surprised if they ask for Chytil + jones or something back.
Start of the season
LaF-Zibby-Buch
Pantin-Cirelli-kakko/Kravtsov
Kreider- Strome trade- kakko/ Kravtsov
Goodrow- Barron-Ruesschoff /Richards/ UFA
Extra Rooney or Blackwell

then most likely mid season or trade deadline Buch is dealt for futures. Getting Cirelli would make it impossible to keep Buch beyond next season financially with Zibbys ext and all other raises.
Following year the fwd group looks like
LaF-Zibby-Kakko/Kravtsov
Panarin-Cirelli- kakko/Kravtsov
Kreider-Barron- Buch trade/ strome trade
Goodrow- Richards/ UFA/ - internal fill/ Buch trade/ strome trade

that’s without any of our guys coming internally and forcing their way on the team from camp in the next 2 seasons like Cuylle, berard, vierling, etc
I think that’s a pretty realistic cap compliant roster. If the players aren’t exactly Cirelli and Goodrow, they will at least be comparable players to the 2 of those guys IMO but that’s a pretty solid core top 9 and a 4 th line the has grit and shutdown capabilities that can contribute offensively once and A while

Did he? They scored at roughly the same playoff rate they have in the past.

Imo danault is quickly going to be a wildly overpaid defensive specialist. He wants to be paid like he has offense he just doesn’t have, and he’s 28 - it’s likely not coming

We are paying Trouba already 8 plus million in this cap world we can not afford to pay Danault 6/6.5 million per. Both are good players but we have to stop overpaying for players like now. We have lots of young players that we will have to eventually pay who will be our real core for the next decade maybe more.

Lindholm AINEC. If he's stapled to Panarin at ES, he'd put up as many points as Strome but with a significant upgrade in the defensive end.

Besides faceoffs, Lindholm is very average defensively. He got some phantom selke votes recently because he's a center and swedish. I've never been impressed with him defensively and his metrics bear that out imo.

Lindholm requires assets and we would have to overpay to pry him away from Calgary

Danault is better defensively and only costs cap space. We can trade Kreider and Trouba in a few years when their NMCs go away if we need space for our younger guys.
