I prefer to go the UFA route on a 3rd Pair D, preferably if they can keep it to a 1 or 2 year deal. Oleksiak/Cole/Savard/Merrill all decent options. They seemingly missed the boat on Ekholm

No one is treating him that way. He is just the best option available. He is the most desired. How should we act and speak about him? I am very confused by this take.
i feels they are, people talking about gallant might be weary of nyr bc they cleaned house as if he is so sacred that he should be careful considering a top 3 job in the nhl, a job that can pay him ridiculous money, comes with all top of the line amenities, and for a franchise bursting with assets and talent. People are probably just begging to even be considered for this job...

well he was under Sullivan in Pittsburgh and many wanted him hired

did you stay up and watch a lot of AZ games ?I didn’t

I've seen a fair amount I try to watch a lot of Avs games or whatever other late night game is on at the west coast.

They added Kessel last year and Taylor hall at that deadline and their offense somehow looked worse. If not for Chychrun being a dynamo (he should get norris votes tbh) that team would be in the basement

I can’t help but to feel the same. Gallant got a lot of credit for Vegas, that immediately became better after firing him. Gallant was also canned in Florida fairly quick. Vegas was/is a good team. Sure he did a great job, but it wasn’t like he was playing poker with his hands behind his back.

I do not have a good read on him. But facts are that a new coach must deliver. A big bark coach won’t work. The new guy must be able to establish what works, what this team can do and — especially — improve the team a lot in many areas. Our forecheck isn’t good at all. But neither is our transition game that is full of big gaffs.

But if we just bring in someone that will focus on making the team tougher and more physical, it will create other problems that we can’t handle.

Maybe Gallant is the right guy, I don’t know. But just being a one trick rally the forces guy won’t cut it.
Vegas went to the finals with him and a far less star studded roster, and they haven’t been again since despite having bigger names now. I wouldn’t say they’re better now then they were then.

The Florida stuff is just crazy. Owner texting him line combos mid game is insane - anyone who does that isn’t someone who’s opinions should count for much.

yeah Karlsson, Marchesault, and Smith as well as guys like haula, mcnabb, and Schmidt all owe a lot to gallant for giving them the chance.

Vegas under deboer has been arguably worse. They have more firepower and score less in the playoffs. Minny just took them to gave seven a year after they couldn’t solve a terrible canucks team and demko, and just got taken to church by Colorado.

meanwhile Florida tanked after gallant left. It took Q getting there just for them to pull their pants back up

Well that stinks. Now Drury is going to being going head to head with Shanny trying to get the same type of player.

1st and a roster player for a 3rd line gritty player coming..

Toronto has no cap space and needs to resign players. SO while they may be looking for the same type of player we easily have better assets to trade and the capspace. Dont worry bout Toronto

This team was always going to have to overpay to get the players they wanted.

Goodrow, Coleman, Danault, any guy they trade for.

Going to be a lot of interest and you’re gonna have to cough up either a lot of money or assets to get these guys

NYR should be very much in this.

They should always be in on a good college player who goes that route, but I doubt he will want to sign with us since there doesnt look like there will be a starting goaltending spot opening anytime soon.

Kinda crazy he only played 15 games a season since he spilt time with the other goalies each year in the NCAA.

Concentrated effort because there have been really no other alternatives other than try to make Chytil work. He is going to be entering year 4 and he really has not improved as a Center. By no means is he a bad player. He has talent. But he has been garbage at the center position. He is terrible on faceoffs, like really terrible which basically forces him automatically to start mostly in the offensive zone. And then his defensive play is less than impressive. His coverage in his own end is lackluster and this playing against other teams bottom 6 often. He also tries to do too much with the puck and turns it over. Lots of turnovers at the offensive blueline. He just doesnt scream a strong hockey IQ.

Pretty concerning considering with DQ as coach he was “supposedly” being taught defense and responsible play...

I thought pre-wrist injury Chytil looked pretty solid at center. It looked like he took the next step. He was controlling the game play good on the forecheck and boards and he would always look to shot. He did blow at face offs though. But so did the whole center Corps. I don’t think it was an important aspect for Quinn to be good at them or practice them.
I think with more talented wings Chytil can still be a dangerous center. He needs a good swing man to get him the puck. He’s got a pretty good shot and he’ll use it from anywhere. I think he was trying to go 1 on1 too much but that could be because both linemates were under 21 and were having a rocky go of it as well.
When he came back and saw his minutes get cut I thing it kind of hurt his development. He didn’t get back to playing at a high level until the last 8-9 games of the year. I highly doubt they move him to wing now. Too much vested in him. I do think it’s a possibility that they include him in a package for a guy like Cirelli, who Tampa is going to have to move this offseason. I don’t see any way around it. Their cap tricks have come to an end. But don’t be surprised if the bolts stick him at 2C and give him a heavy dose of minutes and PP time and he flourishes there with the talented vet wingers they have

The Rangers job is the most desirable one in the league and will continue to be for some time, if Gallant goes elsewhere there’s a problem
What are you basing this on? Sure, the Rangers are a first class organ-eye-zation, but that job comes with a lot of scrutiny and a requirement to live in a high tax, super crowded, cold weather city with a demonstrably unstable owner.

NYers really believe that they live in the greatest city in the world and that everyone wishes they could be there.
