Are we sure this board has listened to any JD and Gorton were fired? LOL. Whether it’s right or wrong we want it or not, they’re going to try to take the next step. There will be changes and big game hunting. We got to accept it

I feel like the bolded is an assumption.

Like it may happen, but changes and big game hunting are not mutually exclusive.

It did not. The 14-15 Rangers went into the playoffs cup favorites, I genuinely don't remember what went wrong, partly because I was coaching youth hockey games while a lot of the Tampa series was showing live.

I do know that MSL had taken a huge step back that year and that Boyle was a serious downgrade from Stralman, but we won the presidents trophy.

Here's your summary:

Players in the crease not allowing Hank to make saves, blown leads, Girardi giveaways and Nash being "snakebitten" or you know... just his normal 'never score' in a NYR sweater self.

Edit wrong yr lol

LOL..in the last couple of years stuff that was never happening ....happened .

This is so true. Like has there even been a point in the history of this team where you like three years prior to a specific date, even remotely could guess at where we would be three years later?

The only way to reasonably guess at what will happen in Ranger land is to bet at the most unlikely scenarios. Looking at our track record, a prediction that Georgiev will be our starting goalie who also takes all Face Offs on our side of the redline winning 95% of them is about as likely that Kakko will improve next year (almost). ;)

Not the trading of a guy who has had 2 MVP seasons that signed as a UFA on a rebuilding team and has an ironclad no movement clause and is a gigantic part of the team’s marketing. It’s never ever f***ing happening right now or any time soon. Move on from it. It’s a dumb idea.

Panarin/Mika/Kreider/Trouba are going nowhere. The Rangers want to win. They arent waiting for prospects to make their debuts anymore. I expect them to acquire a more well rounded top 6 C to pair with Zibanejad, who they will almost definitely sign as long as his ask is within reason (5-6 years, 8.5-9 mil)

Strome will be moved for a "lesser" more gritty player or they will self rent him as a 3C

Buch they will look to sign for 5 years and anything under 6 mil per id consider a win.

Chytil/Kravtsov will be dangled for the aforementioned top 6 C, if Chytil is kept I envisioned hell be moved to the wing. I would be shocked if both Lundkvist & Jones are in the organization come training camp.

Veteran, playoff tested guys will be added to the bottom 6. Same for the 3rd pair to play with whatever young D makes the team.

Sanding down the edges of the roster, plus improved play from our young players & better coaching (lets face it, retreads arent exciting but at least they have a plan unlike Quinn) makes this team a legit playoff contender. We arent nearly as far off as it seems.

They really can't afford to wait and see. It's highly unlikely that they'd go into next season without making a decision on him. The time for selling significant players at the deadline is behind us, and we can't let him walk for nothing. The last thing we need is to be pressured into signing him as a UFA. Make the choice this summer. Sign him and trade him.
While people always advocate that, it really doesn't happen. Especially with rookie GMs.

we’ve gone from needing a top 6 center to trading Zibanejad and now Panarin bc I guess they can’t play after they reach 30 or something?
The team does not need another center piece. It needs support players.

Tell me, what big game do you see them hunting?

After much consideration, if I wanted to build a lineup capable of winning the division and taking the next step to true contender, while also keep the high upside of our future young studs, this is in the realm of what I would like to see.

Don't crush my fantasy, thanks

San Jose
: Kravstov + Zac Jones + 16th overall for Hertl (prenegotiated extension)
Nashville: Zibanejad + Howden for Ekholm + 2022 1st + 2021 2nd
Calgary: Strome + Buchnevich for Matt Tkachuk
Vegas: Gauthier for Ryan Reaves
Sign Danault
Sign Coleman

Laf Hertl Tkachuk
Panarin Chytil Kakko
Kreider Danault Coleman
Reaves Barron Blackwell

Lindgren Fox
Miller Trouba
Ekholm Lundkvist
... andthe reason it never happens is because it's just a bargaining chip for the other team, leaving Drury, a rookie GM, 100% at their mercy.

Dare you to propose this on the VGK board...

Eh, I like Gauthier, plus Vegas is in cap hell so every dollar counts. I believe they're ok with moving Reaves since Kolesar has stepped into the lineup. He's not the enforcer Reaves is, but he's rugged, willing to drop the gloves & a much better skater who makes $1M less.

Reaves is a UFA after next season, so realistically the best return they could hope for would be a 2nd rounder or a prospect. I don't think this offer is awful.

I think that offer is easily bested by any number of other teams.

Zibby deal is scaring me. I don't see any possible way the rangers sign him long term until the trading deadline next season. He already had injury concerns and now his play tanked badly this past season. He either has to become an elite shooter again or he has to develop a 200ft game for the rangers to extend him long term. The rangers want to diversify their lineup and unless Zibby becomes a 200ft player he's just more of the same on this roster.

If Danault takes a reasonable contract or a slight overpayment to play here you take it and run. His production is nothing to scoff at and he should be getting some pp2 time here at least. Tell him he's either playing with Panarin or Laf and I think he'll be plenty happy enough with either of those options. This way you have a safety net if Zibby doesn't become the player we need him to be by the deadline and we have more time to evaluate Chytil if he's still here, which he definitely should be I believe. I don't think packaging Chytil is going to be enough to land us a true and young 2c so there's no reason to trade him. Chytil can be a fairly paid good 3c or he can make Zibby expendable by the trade deadline if he continues to put his game together and becomes a steal.

Strome has to go. I don't see any possible way he still stays in the lineup after everything that has happened this season with Dolan getting involved. Dolan wants to get tougher and he's incredibly redundant on that top 6. Unfortunately for him, the other top 6 players are better or will be better than him in the near future. I see no place for him. Hopefully we get a pick and a good role player on a good contract for him. I don't believe he has the trade value some posters here think he has.

I think Vegas moves Reilly Smith this offseason to get out of cap trouble.

Continuing the convo on Zibby and Strome- you HAVE to have replacements lined up. Good ones, too.

Why do I get this feeling that right now Chris Drury is interviewing coaches, setting up trade scenarios, analyzing the draft, negotiating contracts, running the US Mens National Team, ordering jerseys, sharpening skates, calling season ticket holders, and filling up Gatorade bottles in preparation for next season?

Yes, with the "go out and win" mandate the Rangers pretty much have to re-sign Zibanejad if they don't have a legit 1C lined up to replace him.

I wouldn't put a ton of stock into this past season and his analytics though, it was just a messed up year and making hard and fast decisions based off a season where the guy had covid and took months to get over and even vaguely back up to speed would be foolish
