That’s your bottom six and 13F, and that’s even assuming Kreider is gone (not likely at this point) or an injury to the top six, and with Versatile, McKegg and Lettieri all in Hartford.
This is the same discussion as with Brassard. There isn’t anything approaching an open slot anywhere Boyle could hypothetically play, and he does nothing to fill our only open slot at F. I don’t see us offering him a contract given those conditions, and I don’t see how, given those conditions, he wouldn’t get better offers from other teams even if we did. It doesn’t make any sense.

I still think McKegg is the spare. He's very valuable and might be one of those late bloomers like a Derek Ryan on Calgary who figured it out in his late 20s.

Forwards: Ziba/Panarin/Buch/Kreider/Names/Strome/Chytil/Kakko/Kravstov/Fast/Howden/Anderson/Lemiuex is already 13. That's not even including Nieves and McKegg. Would lvoe to bring in Boyle but something has to give.

Mckegg is going to be on this team. Proved to be a valuable center for Carolina during their playoff run.

I think Lias starts in Hartford at this point as does Nieves. At least until they can find a taker for namestnikov.

Panarin Zibanejad Kakko
Kreider Chytil Buchnevich
Lemieux Strome Kravtsov
Namestnikov Howden Fast
McKegg

Don’t be surprised if McKegg is in there for Howden if he gets off to a slow start. They very well may feel they want to reset with Lias and Howden in Hartford with big mins and a new coaching staff. Could see some time down there.

Kravtsov will not.

Skjei Trouba
Staal DeAngelo
Hajek Fox
Smith

I don’t think we’ll carry a 23rd guy at least not right away but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Rykov make the team and take games from Hajek and Fox to see who’s really ready for those mins.

I think we have a good team here. I believe Trouba taking pionks mins alone is huge. I believe the kids Chytil kakko Kravtsov are going to be serious contributors.

However I could be wrong and they could struggle. If that happens we are looking at another significant sell off.

Kreider Namestnikov Fast Strome all could and should be gone at that point if that happens

If someone predicted that in August hfboards would be going around and round in circles about ADA’s contract.

You my friend deserve..... well better

Let me see if I can follow this through

End of season: we don’t even know how to tank properly. Will never get a top pick. Same old same old
May/June: portion of the boards goes on and on about how much trouba would cost, that the rangers aren’t even interested in panarin and it’s just a couple of us fans who have convinced ourselves of it. Sprinkle in alittle will the devils take ‘our kakko’
July: buyout debates
August: Ada/pepe’s Contract. And I guess now in a select corner of rangerland. Outrage over not being interested in hockey reunion with brassard.
Sept: (without a doubt, how staal is taking a spot away from so and so and how if Ada is still unsigned, that would be the money right there)

the conversation in August is always terrible regardless of the topic.

The news doesn't change quick enough so things just get re-hashed over and over and over again.

This isn't new
You don’t get my point. Just because there isn’t news doesn’t mean the same things NEED be gone over and over. That’s the loop and trap some posters need to recognize in themselves and just enjoy the dog days of summer and let the season begin

Then why did we trade for Trouba? What is actually the plan here?

Laying a foundation man. Getting RD locked up in his prime for 7 years is a good thing for the rebuild, it helps us to have some strong vet pieces build a core around too and not just draft picks. We can see gort is following the plan he had when he was the interim architect in Boston all those years back

If we’re going to bring in Boyle we should also try and pry Dominic Moore out of retirement
My brilliant GM strategy is: "Former Rangers" is probably the leading category of players who always score against the Rangers, so the Rangers should sign any and all available former Rangers to prevent it from happening.

I'd be out of a job in a week's time.

Feels like they’re trying to stagger players who are good now leading the team before letting all of these prospects take the reigns when they’re like 22/23.

I’m mostly on your side with not being on board with how they’re giving out money to everyone (and I’d probably go as far as to say I think they over payed Panarin more than they over payed Trouba), but I’m guessing the front office, like a decent amount of people here, are relying on the new TV deal to help raise the cap in two years or whenever it is (which I’m still skeptical of too).

Don't want Boyle, didn't want Brass. I want to see how Strome follows up last season, and what guys like Andersson and Howden can do. I still see Chytil as a wing.

We've improved the team significantly but we're still not a real contender, and I don't believe the plan is to be a real contender this year. I would anticipate moving Kreider and Namestnikov eventually. Maybe someone like Smith, if possible. So, I think we're in the "ramp up" year, maybe the final one before we really compete, and I don't think it's worth giving time to guys like Brassard and Boyle when we can spend the year experimenting with our younger guys. JMO.

If Greg McKegg is very valuable then every single player in the organization is.
I wouldn't go as far as to say he's "very valuable" in general, but he does have the opportunity to be a valuable role player. And as we have seen in the past, depth players can be impactful and have a significant impact on the team. McKegg can play C or W, is good on the dot, can play physical, up and down the ice, and last year finally showed a bit of the offense skill he is known to have at the AHL level. Talk to Canes fans--they loved what McKegg brought to the fourth line last year. He got his chance and stuck. If he can show that last season wasn't an aberration, then he can certainly be a valuable role player, and in turn a valuable part of the team overall.

I founded the Boo Nieves fan club, but I wouldn't be upset if McKegg won the final spot over Boo.

It's not about moving on. It's not even about Brassard specifically.

In three years, Zibanejad, Kakko, and Kravtsov need new contracts. That's a window.

I would have preferred to be patient, but that ship has sailed. The Rangers made their bed when they decided to buy this summer.

We have to be very proactive the next three years, and we're not being proactive with our centers at all.

You realize that Hank, Staal, and Smith all drop off the books in 2 years and will probably be replaced by ELCs, right? And Namestinikov and Strome are gone at the end of this year? And the cap is likely going up a couple mil with the new TV deal in a couple years?

It's not nearly as dire as you make it out to be.

I think the cap situation is extremely workable assuming it continues to go up, and they don’t sign anymore crippling, big number deals until Staal, Smith and Hank are off the books.

Aka not signing Kreider, and hopefully they don’t fall in love with Strome and hand him a Brock Nelson type contract

I would also reckon a guess that if the LD prospects continue to develop that Skjei will be on his way out in the next 2-3 years
