My comment was a hypothetical, premised on us signing Brassard for 2C. We didnt do that, for obvious reasons. There is something to try for this season. We have better possibilities for 2c than Brassard. In fact, almost all of them.
Chytil who isn't a center and Strome who has been worse than Brassard their entire careers except last year?

well trouba is 25 so before you know it he'll be over 30...26, 27, 28, 29, 30 just like that. so obviously he makes zero sense unless you are going for it this year
We're not keeping all of Trouba, Zibanekad, Kakko, Panarin, and Kravtsov for all of those seasons.

check and check, plus Names, the few games that Kakko and Kravstev have played at C. I'd give Andersson a long look before I'd sign Brass. If it were Brass or Nieves….maybe I'd sign Brass. But no trade protects.

23 points in 70 games last season. He sucks. I'd take any of Chytil, Lias, Howden and Strome over him.
The year before that he had 46. I've never seen such overreactions to a player in my life, save for Carey Price doing literally anything.

We have the worst center depth in the league would have been a good reason to sign him.

We’d still have the worst center depth next season with Brassard.

Brassard sucks. I'd rather let the kids play.

That’s the logical choice here.

But if you're gonna put yourself in a cap crunch, you might as well put your best team on the ice.

There’s a cap crunch this summer. There’s a ton of money coming off the books next year and the year after.

Consider this a cap-hump if anything.

He would still be the 2nd best center on this team by a lot.

Opinion, Not Fact.

Brassard equally sucked for 3 teams last season. That’s impressive.

Then why did we trade for Trouba? What is actually the plan here?

Trouba is a longterm solution here. Brassard played like garbage last year and you’re trying to convince everyone we should have signed him.

Sorry bud but it’s a terrible idea.

Yeah, no player has ever bounced back. It's never happened in NHL history.
Even if he bounces back, this team has centers that should have the opportunity of playing those minutes over a declining vet like Brassard who’d only be a stop gap for us.

Learn how to move on man. This isn’t the same Brassard that played here years ago.

It's not about moving on. It's not even about Brassard specifically.

In three years, Zibanejad, Kakko, and Kravtsov need new contracts. That's a window.

I would have preferred to be patient, but that ship has sailed. The Rangers made their bed when they decided to buy this summer.

We have to be very proactive the next three years, and we're not being proactive with our centers at all.

Everyone says Trouba is a long-term solution, but I don't see any way they keep Trouba in three years without losing one of Zibanejad/Kakko/Kravstov/Panarin.

Either that, or the Rangers are going to have to learn how to play moneypuck with the rest of their lineup which is like asking a fish not to swim.

Okay, y’all, it’s simple:

ADA and Lemieux haven’t signed yet because their agents are advising them to hold off in hopes the Rangers can deal Kreider, Strome, or Namestnikov, thus freeing up space to offer more money, potentially on 2-year deals. As we get closer to mid September, if all remains status quo, then they’ll sign at somewhere near their QOs just in time to start camp — but no need to do so while the possibility remains that the team might free up more space.

As for all the nonsense over the last couple of pages about Brassard, Trouba, etc., it’s Machinehead in off-season pessimism mode. We’ve seen it before, we’ll see it again. (Sorry, brother, love ya, but you know it’s true.) :)

I'm always in pessimism mode because this team has been slapping itself in the face with the same turd for 80 years.

They couldn't make it through two full years of a rebuild without getting the bank account out.

Byron Boyle is interesting on a one way deal. A person told me this yesterday and that there is interest here. The Brass contract makes that possible If a bit of small movement is made. The Erikson Ek deal - although not entirely compatible - should mean that the Lemmy camp understands the situation in the entire league and maybe bites the bullet this year. ADA is another story entirely

Gorton is saying he isn't making a deal to create more money for them.

The Rangers have the money for both players. Right now.

Tony has no options.

Lemieux
Howden
Anderson
Fast
Strome

Nieves

That’s your bottom six and 13F, and that’s even assuming Kreider is gone (not likely at this point) or an injury to the top six, and with Versatile, McKegg and Lettieri all in Hartford.
This is the same discussion as with Brassard. There isn’t anything approaching an open slot anywhere Boyle could hypothetically play, and he does nothing to fill our only open slot at F. I don’t see us offering him a contract given those conditions, and I don’t see how, given those conditions, he wouldn’t get better offers from other teams even if we did. It doesn’t make any sense.

I don't see why people are so bent out of shape on Brassard. He goes to the Oilers, no one cares. He finds a stopgap with the Islanders and it's the end of the world. He'll score a late third period goal on Henrik probably twice this year and the board will go into meltdown.

Lemiuex scored 12 goals last year in a limited role as a 22 year old and was a very effective rat, and all of a sudden he's "garbage"? C'mon man.
