Vatrano has roughly the same cap hit, and the same amount of points, as Goodrow. Amazing, eh?

Vatrano is also on a very bad Ducks team that cannot score goals because they are stuck in their own zone defending most of the time. Frankie was good here and he’s starting to be that player in Anaheim he was here.

Oh, I like him in his brief Rangers tenure but he's a guy we couldn't afford moving forward.

Agreed. Which is a shame. It’s not just the goal scoring , he has a chip on his shoulder and he gets under the opponents skin.

The Rangers are 16-4-3 since Das Helmet and now have the eighth best winning percentage in hockey and probably rank in the top 1-3 over the last 23 games.

Chytil, Fox, Kakko, Kravtsov, Lafreniere, Leschyshyn, Lindgren, Miller, Schneider are all 24 and under. These players, and the 2 1st's, should be kept at all costs. Any rentals should be for something else (Otthman aside).

Trouba has been better over the last month+. Trocheck has earned his contract. Goodrow is a valuable piece that can play anywhere. Vesey might be the best value contract in the league. Gauthier found his feet. Halak figured his shit out. Kreider is on his usual pace for near 30 goals.

There's a lot. A LOT to be positive about.
The first round pick in the Copp trade was conditional on the Rangers winning 2 playoff rounds and Copp playing in 50% of the games. People say the Rangers traded a first round pick last year. That pick was upgraded after the both conditions were met and the 2022 was considered a below average draft. The Rangers and the other seven teams in the east had clinched their playoff spots by December last season. The Rangers could finish 2nd or 3rd in their division or be a WC team or they could miss the playoffs all together.

Sure but vatrano isn’t a 4th line guy, and he’s playing up in a lineup.

considering where we stand, we’re at about 85% odds of making the playoffs.

Miller and Schneider each have $400,000 in performance bonuses.

Miller is top 4 in ice time per game. He is 2nd behind Fox. 22:14

Miller has 5 goals and 25 points.

Schneider is 3rd in plus-minus. Can you believe the NHL has +/- as a bonus category?

Schneider is tied for 2nd in shot blocks with Lindgren. 76.

Depending upon what is the SPC, the Rangers could have to make room to pay those bonuses in the 2022-23 cap. Both Miller and Schneider are hitting one category.

Halak has a $50,000 performance bonus.

(b) Defensemen

(i) Ice time (aggregate and/or per Game). Player must be among top four (4) defensemen on the Club (minimum 42 Regular Season Games played by Player and comparison group). (Note: an Entry Level SPC may contain bonuses for both aggregate and per Game ice time; however, the maximum aggregate amount the Player may receive on account of the ice time category is $212,500.)

(ii) Goals: 10 Goal Minimum
(iii) Assists: 25 Assist Minimum
(iv) Points: 40 Point Minimum
(v) Points Per Game: .49 Points Per Game Minimum (minimum 42 Regular Season Games played)
(vi) Plus-Minus Rating: Among top three (3) defensemen on the Club (minimum 42 Regular Season Games played by Player and comparison group).
(vii) Blocked Shots: Among top two (2) defensemen on the Club (minimum 42 Regular Season Games played by Player and comparison group).
(viii) End-of-Season NHL All-Rookie Team
(ix) NHL All-Star Game (selected to play or plays)
(x) NHL All-Star Game MVP

Gotta keep Kravy...Kreider is on the way down from last years peak performance. I mean if we have to give up one of the 3 first rd picks over the next 2 yrs it must be a player with some term

Vatrano is a case study in a guy that really loses effectiveness in increased minutes

he was absolutely useless the last two series at ES last year because he did not have the IQ to keep up. he was hardly alone there but it really sticks out to me. especially in the tampa series

New York Rangers

2024 second-round pick: The Rangers have two first-round picks this year, their own and the Stars’ pick, so you’d perhaps think general manager Chris Drury would dangle one of them at the deadline to add. But a second is more likely to be the Rangers’ deadline-offer ceiling, particularly if it can be in 2024, given how deep this year’s draft is. The Rangers don’t need to go all-in this deadline; targeted additions for reasonable prices are most likely for them. — Arthur Staple

Sounds like Drury is NOT Interested in trading a 1st round pick for a rental. Thank goodness. 2nd in 2023 or 24. I read somewhere the 2nd round picks in 23 are better players than the first round picks in 24. The top 50-60 players in this draft are all solid players.

The Leafs and Jets are the only teams mentioned as willing to move their 1st round pick. That team will play TB and the winner will play Boston. If Toronto can beat TB and Boston, Bettman should cancel the last two rounds of the playoffs and just give Toronto the Cup.

Winnipeg Jets

Ville Heinola: Heinola is the answer, but the 2023 first-round pick, 2024 first-round pick and other futures could be in play, as well. Winnipeg is facing a unique confluence of factors heading into the trade deadline. In addition to the fact that they’re a legitimately good team poised to make a push, the Jets are getting great seasons from 2024 unrestricted-free-agents-to-be Connor Hellebuyck, Mark Scheifele and Blake Wheeler, plus an excellent one from Pierre-Luc Dubois, whose long-term future may not be in Winnipeg. I believe the Jets recognize that fact and, as such, will be willing to trade prospects and draft picks in the name of acquiring a veteran two-way forward with some physical jam to play in the top nine and/or insurance for their blue line. — Murat Ates

Winnipeg is an all-in team. Bowness got a short term deal.

Kinda reminded me of Brandon Pirri but with actual NHL-level goal scoring instincts.

There was an awful lot of bellyaching around here when that pick turned into Brad Lambert for the Peg. It’s been pretty quiet on that front though since that kid looked pretty bad in the AHL.

I would like to have that kid in the system here but it is very unlikely he becomes a difference maker.

I hope Staple has inside info here and the Rangers hang onto the 1sts. My gut is telling me something different. I think 1 will be in play.

Im thinking 3 rental players are traded for 1st rounders at the deadline.
Horvat
Kane
Terasenko

I think a lot of 2nd rounders and teams trading multiple 2nd's and or 3rd Rd picks with clauses that the pick will turn into something higher similar to the Copp trade.
Monahan
Gavrikov
Nyquist
Klingberg
Gostisbehere
Domi
Toews
O'Reilly (Maybe gets a 1st)
Barbashev
Hamonic

Likely to see a non-rental moved for one as well perhaps for a first.
Meier
Chychrun
Boeser
