I’m hopeful the Rangers don’t move either of the first rounders but it seems almost guaranteed

They have to build up depth, the reality is the chances of them winning in the next 2/3 years is slim if Kakko/Laf don’t pick it up. So they’re gonna need those picks for the core that comes after to replace guys like Kreider, Panarin Trouba etc

that was quick...too tempting to use it

The only way it makes sense to utilize it is if you can cultivate the roster that's here and help improve the players that are here into expanded roles. You can't add the core of your team at the deadline. You can add very good players to come in and help complement your core. But how often have we seen players like iginla, giroiux, etc get dealt at the deadline and they may put up points but they are leaned on to be too big of the team and to fill a void. You can't bring in Kane or someone else to say "fix this," you bring them in to be a "part of this."

Teams also earn trades from their GM. Last year the team earned the additions based on their reg season success. This year I think that's debatable but most likely they will do it regardless because they know that they made the next 2-3 years their window right now
this

Panarin bumper. He’s not that great on the right boards on the PP anyway. Doesn’t shoot. Passes from there across to Zib work one out of a hundred. Might be able to do some cycling to get creative and change looks so the puck isn’t completely off his stick the whole time.
Putting Panarin in the bumper would neuter his best skillet, which is distributing the puck. If anything Zibanejad would go back to the bumper. Its not gonna happen though. Unless they trade for Kane and force him onto the top PP.

Adam Henrique @ 50% makes a lot of sense.

He's been a strong middle6 player at even strength.

Maybe a midtier prospect + 2nd?

I didn't get to watch the entire game against Colorado, can somebody help me understand how kakko went from 23 minutes against Vegas immediately back down to 16 minutes against Colorado? He played really good in Vegas, so I'm trying to figure out if he got lost in a special team shuffle or was he moved down the lineup again or what happened? I don't want to get caught up on time on ice, but it's really frustrating to see them make a shift to give these guys more ice time in the team overall looked better and then reverting back to lesser ice time for them.

I they won the game the other night, but going to a shootout against a team that's missing possibly five of their top six forwards is kind of disappointing in some ways
"coaching decision"

We need offense so Vesey got 17minutes

I know right? Driving him to the rink and trying to make him more social really hindered his development.
If that's what were talking about, fine. For anything having to do with the sport of ice hockey, physical conditioning, or professionalism, no.

He didn’t switch over there until last December I believe after Zibanejad took Panarin’s normal spot on the left when Panarin was out. Prior to that he was where Zib is now and he was much more dangerous, so 3 years isn’t the right story to tell here. What are the stats from last December, and remove secondary assists because passing to Fox and Fox passing to Zibanejad for the one timer doesn’t really validate that Panarin’s skills are utilized on the right boards. I’m not digging Panarin btw. I love the guy

Panarin on the left and Zibanejad in the bumper only briefly occurred before they switched and I don’t think that was even last year. The vast majority of the games have been in the current configuration. This can easily be looked up by checking the individual game shot charts however I am not going to go through that many individual games of charts. I did however look at the first 5 games last year and Zibanejad had 10 shots from the left circle

And in any case the spot for Kane on the PP would be PP2. If he’s not worth it at 5v5 and PP2 then he’s not worth trading for.

Blais for Motte is an exchange I can see working for both teams. Ottawa can resign Blais for cheap and give him a chance to keep recovering and we know Motte works for us and could potentially resign him for 2 years cheap as well.
Why would Motte re-sign with us for cheap now when he wouldn't last summer? What has changed? Why would a team want Blais over Motte? Blais hasn't established anything. Neither are great fits.

If we wanna trade one 1st id be temtped to do it in the Chychrun trade as his contract has some time on it. Injuries are a concern but his contract is awesome and he'd be a perfect fit on the left side.

There was a brief stretch in the entire Panarin/Zibanejad tenure where both were healthy and they tried Zibanejad bumper and Panarin left wall. That stretch was the beginning of last season. I don’t know the exact dates but let’s go with October/November. It wasn’t working and they flipped it back.

You want the numbers for October/November last year vs. this year?

Panarin last year Oct/Nov: 1-8-9
Panarin this year Oct/Nov: 1-11-12

Zibanejad last year Oct/Nov: 2-4-6
Zibanejad this year Oct/Nov: 8-4-12

Panarin leads the league in primary power play assists this season.

He is the 2nd behind McDavid in primary power play assists since 2020 when Fox joined PP1.

Validated for you?

I find it crazy that people think shifting Zibanejad or Panarin to bumper and putting Laf/Kakko/Chytil on the left wall makes this power play better. It doesn’t. The power play has a rough stretch but it has been consistently great for a long long time.

Well I guess cheap is to be determined. Blais is likely getting a large pay cut and ottawa isn't competing. Motte cheap would be 1.5 to 1.75. I am of the mind that you can't just invest in the top 6 and hope the bottom 6 works out. I think we would be a better team with Mottes speed vs Blais physicality, which honestly hasn't been that prominent. Just spit balling.

Tolvanen will likely get claimed before the Rangers turn, would not even get into the lineup on the Rangers, and would have been traded to the Rangers for whatever AHL vet before he was waived if they wanted him.

If he clears he can be dealt, no?
Yeah, but it’s hard to see some crappy team early in waivers let him pass for nothing. He’s relatively cheap and has a plus shot. If someone thinks they can work out the other holes in his game, it’s a good buy-low opportunity

well the silver lining is that we play like shit vs bad teams and hopefully can play well against the better teams. I am confident we can beat anyone with road Igor.
Also the teams we will be fighting with for playoff spots also have tough schedules.

Exactly what I was talking about when they were blowing early season games against sj, anh, and other bottom tier teams. It's going to get much tougher but the good news is if they beat those teams ahead of them they close gaps quicker. It's all on the players and coaches at this point. They put themselves in this position.
