I swear this team better not claim Kevin Rooney. I don't even know if he is better than Carpenter, most likely worse.

Brodz is better than Carpenter. He's always played well on the 4th line. They also have Rydahl they can call up whenever they want which makes the Carpenter signing make no sense at all from the very beginning.

Wow the son of a bitch actually did it. Wasn't expecting Drury/Gallant to waive Carpenter until closer to the deadline if at all.

Blais is a 15 point player who hits people. He is replaceable at best

This isn't true either. I mean let's just look at the last 3 years, age 24, 25 and 26.

24 year old season
15 points in 36 games (I would say he was tracking for more than 15 points here...)

25 year old season
4 points in 14 games (23 points extrapolated and he was on a new team until Subban took him out)

26 year old season
5 points in 25 games (after coming back from being out with a major knee injury which is known to take a year plus to recover from)

I'm not saying he is going to be a 60 point winger. But I find it disingenuous to call him a 'bad' player or a 15 point winger.

Back to a 22 man roster. One extra forward (Brodzinski). One extra defenseman (Harpur).

You are making the extremely faulty assumption that 15 points in 36 games tells you about his skill level when he did that by shooting 25.8%. If he shot a reasonable 10% you are now at 10 points in 36 games. He is your run of the mill 20ish point 4th liner that is dime a dozen around the league and can be had for around league minimum. The fact that he is a total zero on special teams, for whatever reason, makes him even less valuable.

Are you impressed by a 20-25 point season? 302 forwards last year played at least 40 games and scored at "a pace" of 25 pts/82 or better. 344 did 20 pts/82 or better. Only 64 forwards in the league did under 20.

He's better but neither should be on this team

He's better but we let him go due to his higher cap hit. Doubt we claim him now, that hasn't changed.

NYR just figured out early that Carpenter is garbage.

I don’t think it’s disingenuous to call a player a 15 point player when they have never scored more than 15 points.

He is also proven to be injury prone so there is no evidence that he can play enough games to extrapolate that into a higher total

Replacement level at best. No reason to try to defend anymore, and signing him with him not being 100% was doubling down on a horrible mistake

Surprised to see Kaut on waivers. He was skating on their 3rd line with Colorado. Of course that could be due to the massive injury issues they have. MacKinnon, Landeskog, Lehkonen, Helm, Byram, Manson and Rodriguez all out.

I was never a fan of the trade rumors with him and Kreider. At one point I think Andersson was mentioned for him too. That could have been interesting.

We wanted Newhook for Kreider......fairer deal

Trocheck can be moved in 3 and if we draft in the middle of the round we can be patient with a center. Take someone going to college, or needs some time to develop
Can be patient with a center regardless of who it is or where they are taken. And if they quickly leapfrog Chytil, so be it he's a tradable asset as well. Not that I want to do that. Could also move Trocheck to 4C for a year or two and have insurance against injury. Yeah his paycheck, but if you are doing that you already have a 2-3 center who is on an ELC. No one would complain about a 4C on an ELC, but what's the difference where they slot in? It still makes the cap work.
