Strome was heart? Because that feels really revisionist.
He absolutely was a leader in the clubhouse. It’s not revisionist at all. If there was more cap space I would’ve been fine bringing him back. He was a very good Ranger and we shouldn’t diminish what he brought to the table. Besides his missed open net shots.

Zero chance they move Fox or Igor. Just not going to happen.

Wouldn’t be all that shocked if they move Laf. He hasn’t improved from last year, might be noticeably worse honestly, and he seems to not be emotionally invested all that much. Gotta wonder what they could get for him from a team that still sees the potential, which honestly he might hit in time if a team lets him work through it with big minutes.

Other option is definitely a coaching change, which might be an easier place to start given that this same core just had a good run and seemed to not have any leadership issues less than a year ago.

I dont mind moving Laf for a solid player in return but the problem with that is how are we going to afford them moving forward. It doesnt make sense to trade him for picks. SJ for a deal around Meier would make sense for both teams ignoring cap space. Laf would get all the ice time in the world there.

The next 5 games should determine If we firé Gallant imo. I ageee That’s where we should start

He was also terrible on faceoffs and suspect defensively.

Maybe to the analytic crowd.

Minnesota is 7-1 and NYR are 2-8 since the Reaves trade. Maybe having guys to hold others accountable in the locker room is actually a thing
the Reaves worship needs to stop I swear to god it's going to turn me insane. Maybe it's because it coincides with the "Wilson Incident" that people STILL can't stop blabbering about or maybe it's because Reaves himself showed us he doesn't give a shit and it's all just for spectacle. Remember how Pastrnak earlier in the season walked all over Lindgren and he ended up getting injured from that? Yeah Reaves didn't do a damn thing about it that game but I'm sure he was yapping his mouth on the bench while it occurred pretending to care. They moved him for the cap relief and deadline flexibility (if it'll even matter by then) but also because the routine got old. Drury is smart enough to know that at least

I'm sorry, but Reaves is nothing more than a modern day locker-room jester

Lol no.

Minnesota is 3-1. Rangers are 1-4 (or 1-2-2 if you want to be accurate) with 2 of those losses coming in games where they had a lead going into the third.

Reaver has nothing to do with holding a lead.

Per NaturalStatTrick, in terms of individual player HDCF (which boils down to essentially "crash the net+shots off rush"), the Rangers have 4 players in the top 40 leaguewide. Trocheck, Kreider, Kakko, Laf. Zibanejad is 59th. Hell even Goodrow is 67th. Those guys are getting the chances, they're just not necessarily getting rewarded. Trocheck for instance hasn't shot this low at 5v5 since 2018-19 (excluding a 9 game sample size last year). Laf & Kakko, are both shooting colder than their averages, and with say 5-6 more goals between them (and assorted assists), are we complaining as much.?

You know who's actually the problem? Panarin, who's 343rd. He has 8 total High Danger chances. He is the single most averse-to-the net top 6 F in the league. No forward has played more mins 5v5 with less HDCF.

Maybe to the analytic crowd.

Reaves couldn't even hold other teams accountable, and he was allowed to hit them. What makes you think he could make this team accountable?

Pointless thing to complain about. For one he had almost the exact same iHDCF60 two years ago. For two, he has the third highest iXG60 of his career this year. For three, he has the highest on ice HDCF60 of his career this year. There’s different ways to he successfully and crashing the net and taking shots in close isnt the only one. He’s never had a lot of high danger chances himself. He sets them up. He had the 5th lowest iHDCF in the league from 2018 to 2020. This has always been his game and is common for playmakers. Thornton, getzlaf, Krejci are other guys who rate poorly there

You don’t need to pay a guy that can’t play several million dollars to cheerlead.

I don’t disagree that that’s an issue in this lockerroom but it either needs to be addressed by a player that can do positive things on the ice or by the coaching staff.

you do when you have a lot of beta mopers

He brought a swagger to the team. Even though we sucked 5v5 last season, we found ways to win.

I don’t buy Reaves being the root of that.

I am interested in how/why things went south with him here so quickly though. Especially given the obvious lockerroom issues we are hearing about now.

Are you really going to chalk that up to Ryan Reaves presence? What happened this year then? His aura diminished enough to where Igor wasn't putting up a .935 and the Rangers couldn't figure out how to score in a whorehouse? Reaves has nothing to do with it. The Rangers simply aren't good enough and last year they weren't good either but had fortune on their side, this season they don't.

I'm very much open to the Panarin-Zegras idea but it's too unrealistic even if Drury had god-like powers to make it all work
I'm sure Artemi's wife would be more than okay with it though.

I wonder how bad the lockeroom is. Like is it possible its bad enough one of rbe players with the NMC would be open to moving? That would help a ton

Why would the Ducks do it?
No playoffs 5 years running. They'll have a very crowded middle of the ice if they win the Bedard or Fantilli sweepstakes. I don't know how impatient their owner is, but I would imagine a top 2 pick would be a pretty good catalyst to fill in some weaknesses on the depth chart from positions of strength.
