Here’s a concern. Drury has to go to Dolan and say “ You know that guy I hired 15 months ago; well I made a mistake and it’s going to cost you 9 million dollars once I release him and at least another 6 million dollars over the next two seasons to possibly (no guarantee) to fix it. We cool Jim.”
That's why it's never going to happen, at least not this season.

Drury and Gallant are going to have to figure this out together.

What team could take on his contract and what team would he even be willing to waive for, if any? Slim pickings. Only 3 teams have the space without trading salary. Buffalo and Arizona have the cap space, is he waiving for them? I wouldn't put money on that. Anaheim has the space, would he waive to play in Cali with his buddy Strome? They have hardly any money tied up long term. Their future is really bright down the middle with Zegras, McTavish, Strome, Gaucher, etc... little different story on the wings. Maybe they'd look to bring in a star veteran on the wing? Chicago has some cap space, they could easily free up money but they're just beginning their rebuild. I can't really see them bringing him back at their current stage and would he even want to go back?

Other than that most teams are real close to the cap limit and would become a game of matching salaries. I mentioned St. Louis, obviously his buddy Buch is there. Tarasenko Trade Talk Resurfaces: He Has Not Rescinded Trade Request
This is from this past off-season. I'd say there's a good chance Tarasenko will be gone, whether through trade or free agency. O'Reilly would be an awesome target but I think they'd like to re-sign him. Different ways to make the money work there. There's a number of different teams and players that might make some sense but I think the Blues are probably the top one here.

The Panthers this summer, I think that might be the only place he would agree to go to. They have a disaster cap situation this year, but then the Yandle buyout goes down a ton this summer. Hornqvist comes off the books this summer.

Losing is the best thing to happen to the Rangers.

Halak was awful last night. Valiquette says a team needs 25 points with their back-up goalkeeper starting games. Halak has 3 points through the first 26 games of the regular season. Giving up huge rebounds. Getting beat from the top of the face-off circle. Chicago should have scored 10 goals last night against Halak but they suck.

Pittsburgh is playing well. Carolina won again last night. Florida has won two straight games.

The Rangers have the Blues tomorrow. Both teams are not playing well. The Rangers go on the road to Vegas and Colorado. Come back home to face Jersey and Toronto.

A nice 1-5-1 or 0-6-1 stretch would be nice.

Lost in OT to Ottawa
Lost to Chicago

Blues
Vegas(A)
Colorado(A)
Jersey
Toronto

Keep losing.

I think any meaningful change has to start at the top and getting rid of Chris Drury. You can’t let this guy make any more major decisions within the organization. He’s ruining all of our Christmases right now.

I really wonder what JD and Gortons vision for the team would’ve looked like.
Who are you hiring to replace Drury?

The next GM will make the same mistakes.

Gg needs to stop sticking to his guys, whether that be his assistants or just throwing out the same crap lines & pp. The power play is stale but let’s keep throwing the same guys out there in the same positions. Why not goto the set up they had last year with both z & panarin on the rw boards. Troch or someone else on the lw/bumper where strome was. I get no one’s been overly impressed with the kids but just say screw it and give them more ice time. They all still look timid out there to play their games because there is no reason why vesey who was a bottom line guy on a bottom feeding team last year should be on the top line. At least try to build confidence in them instead of giving them a grinding line. Gg really is turning into av. 0 game plans for his opponent, refuses to make adjustments to the game the opponent is playing, and just thinks his game plan will work when it’s clearly not. Maybe there’s a reason he’s never last more than 3 seasons with a team.

A lot salient points in this thread. There are problems at every level of this organization: owner, general manager, coach, vets, kids. Even the minor league team is awful right now. Wholesale changes need to be made, but more likely they will bring in a new coach. Which may give the team some life this year but won’t change anything in the grand scheme of things. Hard to make wholesale changes in a capped league when no team has cap space and half the problem players have NMCs.

I miss Torts. Need a coach with his attitude.

Psycho that works for a short time. I know people that have played for him. He is as brash and crazy you can be. Attacks innocent people for no reason other than for enhancing the self esteem. There was an incident at an airport that could and should have resulted in incarceration. Narc. Same as Keenan.

I think they had a more realistic approach, which was likely smaller deals last deadline to show we will help without moving 1st rounders and such and maybe start moving forward this year. Thats the reason they are gone, Dolan and Sather in too much of a hurry.

Yeah, the rebuild needed to be a top down re-evaluation of the franchise. Gallant has absolutely coached his way out of here, but when you’re not developing players, your vets are essentially out to lunch, you’re giving out questionably long contracts, etc it’s just a recipe for disaster.

The last time we really had a real focus on drafting and developing was when Tom Renney was in the organization. It wasn’t perfect, but we were finding prospects all over the draft and turning them into good productive NHL players. I even remember Versus doing an expose on the farm system when they had guys like Stepan waiting in the wings.

I could see them changing coaches and making a run and getting in the playoffs, but does that really change anything? If they trade Laf or Kakko for Kane and then get bounced in the first round and one of those two goes on to have a good NHL career was it worth it?

It's time to hand this to the kids, the vets are lolly gagging around. Start next game laf chytil kakko and give them the big mins all night and see if they can run with it. This isn't working, its time to try and fix the future if the present isn't fixable and maybe by fixing the kids the vets will follow because they sure aren't leading.

The focus is on winning every game and with that the kids take a back seat, something that should never have happened at this point. People bashed on Quinn but he would have the kids playing in ot, and honestly it appeared he was slowly integrating them into the league and increasing responsibilities as they aged, the current coach and management has them pegged and not going anywhere past the vets. Its time to put some heavy mins on the kids

The Rangers are probably the worst NY sports team atm. I don't follow basketball too close so maybe you can make an argue for the Knicks but either way it's neck and neck.

Imagine being a bigger dissapointment than the Jets....
