It's too bad they named Trouba captain- because if NYR traded for Staal it'd be a very nice touch to let him finish his career here wearing the "C"

We missed out on a cool moment. Add to that if Staal won a cup with the Rangers, that boosts him into jersey retirement consideration.

Brooks is worried about the precious accrued cap space.

I mean he isn’t wrong for calling that out. The Rangers are home all of this upcoming week. Hartford just entered the ASG break. Why are we maxing out the roster? There is no need to have all 23. Waive/Send down Leschyshyn at the very least. Hajek is just a warm body at this point they should cut bait.

I mean, we can’t compare the NHL to the NBA. Hockey is simply not as popular in America. Hockey is by its very nature an exclusive sport that will never be as popular as the big three American sports that can all be played in backyards and playgrounds.

When you add in the fact that there’s a team in friggin Manitoba, and that the best players ever both spent significant time in Alberta, you are just making an impossible task even more impossible.
I never expect the NHL to be bigger than the NBA

but they could do a much better job of marketing their product. Do not get me wrong, the changes Bettman has instituted have helped bring more excitement to the game... they are just doing a terrible job promoting their stars now IMO

It’s possible the team also thinks Cuylle may be the answer to their ‘acquisition’ for the 4th line in lieu of someone like Motte. If that’s the case, then investing a little cap space to find out makes sense as it could save a pick (albeit a mid to late round pick).

With all of that being said, I’d still waive Hajek. I don’t see him ever playing here and if there was an injury, id prefer to see one of the AHL guys at this point. Although I doubt he would be picked up.

Tank has a full NTC. He will go where he chooses.

2nd + should be enough

Maybe Drury is shrewd this deadline again, and pays less for Barbashev instead? but might as well use Kravtsov at that point

Exactly. There is no way Tank is worth a first. There is nobody worth giving up one of our 1st rounders for at this TDL and Drury has openly stated that he wont be looking to deal even a 23' 2nd round pick. Tank has also done nothing to increase his trade value nor has the injury helped him. The NTC also helps to limit the factors along with no cap space being available for the top teams and boom. No way hes going for even a conditional 1st.

Nobody at this deadline unless its Meier is worth giving up a first for. Drury knows this.

It seems like you have all the weird infatuation with Eric Staal, who they already had once.

They're gonna trade Krav for a 2nd or 3rd in this coming down draft..that'll alleviate some of the logjam.

Drury also isn't loading up for the deadline because there's no acquisition that's gonna change things more than their existing best players being better.

Leschyshyn was stupid the minute it was made. He's worse than some of the plugs we have in Hartford. What does this N'SYNC reject do for us besides lose faceoffs and do nothing on the ice?

What the people who picked him up were thinking I simply can't understand. He's literally been a net negative every year of his career since 2018. Surely the Rangers and their glistening record of getitng the best out of forwards will fix him

Ratings are apparently down? No shit. People want to watch rivalries.

It sounds like Players and the League are discussing a new schedule/playoff format... While they're at it, fix the dumb ass cap situation.
Have the ratings for US national regular season hockey broadcasts ever been good compared against the general TV landscape? I know everyone loves to second-guess and fantasy draft those intermission panels but it just doesn't seem like a product that there's a big appetite for.

I post here, for example, and I don't really care that the Bruins look really good so far, I'm not going out of my way to watch them play the Capitals or something
