He’s always been pretty shy with the media due to his not being comfortable with the language. It’s not like it’s a new thing since his play has grown more frustrating. Every team has some guys who are good in front of the camera and some that aren’t. Not unusual imo.

Also I thought he was saying the right things about his own play and playing very well to start the season. He tapered off along the way and went back to being a perimeter player.

They have an interpreter. Igor & Kravtsov talk to the media all the time. Panarin is an alternate captain and the highest paid player on the team, that comes with certain responsibilities. Is he still worried about backlash from Putin? If so, thats very fair. And maybe for that reason he would like to get out of the spotlight of NYC.

I just get the impression that Panarin ducking the media but giving one liners to the Post shields him from criticism. Despite the fact that his play is slipping and his inability to gel with anyone but Strome is hurting our lineup and development of young players we have a lot invested in

Since 2008, there has been precisely ONE offer sheet that resulted in a player signing with another team and less than 10 offer sheets overall.

It's not even worth discussing.

So far I've heard that we should be worried about an offer sheet and that the league will dock us draft picks if we try to use the LTIR loophole every other team in the league does. You dont win anything without taking risks.

Who can add a 11.6 million cap hit mid-season that Panarin would actually want to play for? It's fun to discuss these scenarios and exciting players but we really need this break to end lol.

Or for Drury to just trade for Barbashev, Motte & Nick Holden like we all know deep down he will (and I would be ok with)
Hence the retention I proposed SJ take on in a potential Bread deal.

We can’t retain on Panarin. They can.

Is a retained (pick a reasonable %) Panarin worth more than RFA Meier? I honestly don’t know. But if he is, that’s a win win for both teams.

I think you add Meier and worry about dealing with the money in the summer

You know what would be funny. If we wake up on deadline day and see Kane traded for a lot less then everyone thinks like for example Jones and Kravtsov and no picks involved. Not that I want him but it will be funny when Kane is dealt for so little.

Does trading Panarin for Meier make us better? He's like the only forward on the team that can pass worth a damn.

Explain how we are going to use LTIR.

Even if they got Panarin to waive, how are NYR moving his contract w no/limited money coming back?

@Machinehead is right, it's obvious but go to Capfriendly, look around the league and tell me who is taking his contract that he would waive to? The economics of the league are broken right now.

Another flat cap summer would be a tipping point. Last year it was the Tyler Motte's of the league that really got squeezed. This year it could trickle upward into better players. @NYR Viper is really on to something. Could be a unique opportunity to sign a few vets who want to win on cheap deals. Vesey but on a bigger scale.

I could see big names not signing or taking massive cuts as soon as this summer.

Not that it'll stop people from defending this nonsense and saying "yeah but look at MLB and NBA where the tha saem teamz win every year!" which is not true and both of those leagues are highly competitive and entertaining.

Most teams want to make moves and freshen up their rosters but can't because league wide cap constipation. I don't think the cap principle is wrong, but the current implementation is not helping anyone.

If he's dealt for less than everyone thinks, it will not be to the Rangers.

We will see when it happens. Imagine if he does not get dealt. Highly unlikely but stranger things have happened before.
Not being traded has occurred to me and I believe that is also a viable option.....be that as it may I stick by my original statement (my opinion, of course).

won't we have like 6.5mil in room by the deadline? he only makes 6M this year and SJ could just retain some anyway.

It’s more about next year. He’s an RFA with a high qualifying offer. Everyone Would know they sand sign him and if flipped they likely get less back

How is that not true for the NBA? Like 4 teams have won in the past 10 years.

Offer sheet Meier? History says teams wont because we rarely get offer sheets. The only ones we got recently were between MTL & CAR and it proved the point we always hear that GMs dont do it because they are worried about "revenge". If an offer sheet comes for Meier it will be at an amount that the Rangers could let him walk and recoup a 1st, 2nd and 3rd at minimum. I'm not worried.

Still waiting on that offer sheet Kakko was allegedly seeking out because he was scratched in Game 6
Aware of the history of offer sheets, but it's foolish to think that just bc of that it won't happen. You can point to the history of second contracts and the values players managed to get for decades but that has been smashed apart at this point as well. Just bc it hasn't happened doesn't mean it won't. And I wasn't saying Meier being offer sheeted was bad. I was saying that just bc you give up X Y Z in a trade don't discount that with his RFA status you will either resign him, trade him again, or get RFA compensation if he is offer sheeted. I am saying this isn't just pissing assets away for copp bc Meier is controllable....

Unless Panarin is traded FOR Meier it probably doesn't make sense for the Rangers and, unless it's a three way job, I don't see Panarin waiving for SJ any time soon.

Meier is a fit for Gallant and the style he wants to play but he's a.) not worth it if it's a pure rental and b.) see a.) because signing him isn't going to happen whether the cap goes up 1 or 4M.

I don't see any of the NMC's waiving any time soon. Probably have to wait until Kreider's turns into a M-NTC and go from there.
Nyr has cap space now to take Meier and the idea could be to make a run with Meier and bread this year, but what I am saying is if they want to keep Meier long term they will have to trade bread bc no other salary on this team can go out and allow you to resign your current rfas AND resign Meier. Kreider leaving doesn't accomplish that. It would have to be bread.

This is said every year.

It almost never happens
Again, just bc it rarely happens doesn't mean a trend won't change. There are plenty of trends in the league that have changed over the past two decades. I'm not saying this one will or that it would be several of them, I'm just saying don't discount it. I mean if nyr trades for him and NJ really wanted him what stops NJ from bringing the big offer and losing there draft picks in the later rounds while trying to stick it to nyr? Doesn't mean it will happen but it doesn't automatically mean it won't
