Kreider is fine now. Panarin missed 7 games last year. Back surgery is major and he is not going to just get that done if he doesn't seriously need it. What kind of hand injury results in someone missing 6-8 months?

Im not a doctor, but players have major injuries coming out of the playoffs every single year. We dont know what Trouba's injury is, if it's a shoulder that can easily keep him out months. And maybe Panarin's back is the reason he can't play in the middle ice, would that shock anyone here? Plus he's got an ironclad contract for 4 more years, if he needs surgery why wouldnt he get it?

We dont know what the organization knows about their own players. If Drury is interested in Meier, and I have no reason to doubt he would be, theres a reason for it.

but it's Chychrun+

Meier would take up more resources. Sure, in a vacuum he's better.. For arguments sake, lets say the acquistion cost is the same... Chychrun is a fraction of the cap cost, especially if it's @ 50%. That allows us to keep/add more talent.

Maybe I'm jaded.... I see Meier coming here and degenerating... Sit on the boards and no longer shoot 1st...

what I do see though, is when Fox and KAM are going, the team is going. Add more fuel to that fire.

I'd lean towards Chychrun

I TRULY think that finding another forward this off-season, assuming the team can scrounge some cap space, is not going to be difficult. Too many good players, not enough cap space

worry about that after he hoists the stanley cup

And if he doesn't?

If he doesn't wed probably just bitch and complain like usual lol. Might as well go for it when he's available. Its not like we're mortgaging the future, Fox, Miller and Igor arent going anywhere

There has not been a single player in the cap era to be dealt with an AAV of 9M+ who didn't demand a trade (Eichel) or have no clauses active in his deal (Subban), I highly doubt he gets dealt and it's by far the least likely of any scenario.

Small sample size. There's only 3% of the entire league make that kind of money. 35 players have 9mil or better cap hit.

After this deadline that metric is likely to change again.

P Kane is rumored to be moved
J Toews is rumored to be moved

Karlsson who is making an insane $11.5 mil. I wouldn't bank on him staying in SJS. Lots of chatter he is on the move.

And if he doesn't?

then at least we gave it a full-assed try. there comes a point in time where your picks and prospects have to be used as trade bait to add big pieces to put you over the top, i think that's where we are right now. especially because none of our prospects are all that special. looking at the rest of the league, there's not a single team i would fear with Meier added to this roster. not even Boston, i expect them to break down in the playoffs due to their age and they still have to get past TB anyway.

The Rangers are money in and money out. Trouba at $8M or Kreider at $6.5M would need to go somewhere. Good luck with that one.

Wow it seems to me like Frank is really hammering the table here

Elliotte says Tarasenko makes sense with the NY area teams(maybe not the Islanders with Horvat) and Vegas with no Stone who will miss the rest of this season.

Tarasenko has a full NTC. He has control.

So you're willing to mortgage the future for one shot at a Cup. Seems like a a recipe for shortening a window

With reports about Drury being unhappy with Panarin's playoffs, and I cant imagine hes too enthralled with his continued playstyle, I just can't see Drury wanted to add another player exactly like Panarin in Kane. Thats not what this team needs and I think he knows it.

Also, NYR have a lot of former employees over at San Jose. So I think there is smoke there with the whole Timo situation. That makes a lot more sense to me than assets for aging Kane who wouldn't plug any relative holes anyway.

I don't think Kreider is a tough move tbh. Whether or not it'd do more harm than good is another conversation.

That said, all of this sounds completely speculative rather than based off of something solid.

If Meier is getting traded for a rental price, this shouldn't even be a discussion. He is easily worth what Horvat got, and probably a bit more. And Seravelli is exactly right about the stylistic fit, and the fact that we're at the start of our Cup window. The cap is a concern, but there will be work arounds. Timo would immediate be one of our best players. Age and skillset is such that you make it work if the opportunity is in front of you. Are we trying to win or build for the future?

What trade for Meier would be mortgaging the Rangers future? Genuinely curious because Ive seen this a lot and I dont buy it at all.

Saw a mention on twitter of the Devils potentially being interested in Buchnevich. That would make me laugh. We get Meier, they get Buch. that would add some serious juice to the rivalry.

Frank is pushing traffic to his content.
I understand linking everyone to NYR generates a lot of clicks, RB. That said, Frank runs the risk of becoming the second coming of Eklund if he whores his website and is always wrong.

And Buchnevich would get 3 GWG in round 1 vs the Devils if we faced them in playoffs. Just cause Ex-Rangers curse

Kreider is on pace for 33 goals. If Kreider can have another 30-35 goal season next season, the Rangers could trade Kreider in the summer of 2024 with the cap increasing when his NMC becomes a limited 15 team no trade list.

Frank doesn’t care. Nobody remembers what he got wrong.

Obviously there is an enormous difference between moving two players who are pending UFAs on the worst team in the league which also may include 50% retention and moving someone with 3 years left on his deal. I did not think I needed to clarify that but apparently I was wrong.

If I need to be more specific "There has never been a player moved with a cap hit of 9M+ that had term remaining on his deal that did not request a trade or have no no move protection"

Buch going to the Devils would make me very sad. Not only because they are a hated and rival team. But will be reminded more of that trade since we play them more, lol.
