I understand linking everyone to NYR generates a lot of clicks, RB. That said, Frank runs the risk of becoming the second coming of Eklund if he whores his website and is always wrong.

Seravalli was correct about Kadri and the Rangers despite everyone doubting it, myself included. Brooks basically confirmed the Rangers were trying to loophole their way into signing him. We were interest in Hertl last year as well before he re-signed. I think Drury wants to consolidate assets and grab a big fish who he can keep around long term.

How is saying "The Rangers are interested in Timo Meier" wrong if the Rangers end up not trading for Timo Meier?

Obviously there is an enormous difference between moving two players who are pending UFAs on the worst team in the league which also may include 50% retention and moving someone with 3 years left on his deal. I did not think I needed to clarify that but apparently I was wrong.

If I need to be more specific "There has never been a player moved with a cap hit of 9M+ that had term remaining on his deal that did not request a trade or have no no move protection"

My post wasn't sarcastic yet you need to insert the condescending tone to yours.

Who's to say that at some point Panarin doesn't want out of NY. Certainly not out of the realm of possibility, nor is it to see others over that 9mil hit be moved.

Saw a mention on twitter of the Devils potentially being interested in Buchnevich. That would make me laugh. We get Meier, they get Buch. that would add some serious juice to the rivalry.

but it's Chychrun+

Meier would take up more resources. Sure, in a vacuum he's better.. For arguments sake, lets say the acquistion cost is the same... Chychrun is a fraction of the cap cost, especially if it's @ 50%. That allows us to keep/add more talent.

Maybe I'm jaded.... I see Meier coming here and degenerating... Sit on the boards and no longer shoot 1st...

what I do see though, is when Fox and KAM are going, the team is going. Add more fuel to that fire.
OK fine then.

Chychrun AND Meier.

All jokes aside I agree defense should be just as much the focus. Not to mention the Rangers have been very fortunate with the health of their D.

Panarin hasnt had a televised media availability with the Rangers since Training Camp, per the NYR YouTube account. For reference, Dryden Hunt has done it twice, during the regular season. The social media accounts were all over Fox and Igor yesterday, yet no Panarin. Isnt it strange that we never hear from our highest paid player unless its in an article written by Brooks or Mollie Walker? Gallant and Trocheck have had to answer for the lack of chemistry between Vinny and Panarin all year; has Panarin said anything aside from wanting to play "looking good hockey"? All the Kane stuff is based on Panarin's history with him. He has been going through the motions since he took his leave of absence in 2020. We know Drury has been upset with his playoff performance, has he seen anything this year that's changed his mind? Does he even want to be here right now? My BS meter is going off.

It's not impossible but to say the most likely way to clear a large cap hit is make a trade of which there is not a single comparable since 2005 is a bit outlandish. Maybe there is one if you look at cap hit percent but that requires a lot of manual work which I’m not going to do

I am curious in craziville what people would be willing to trade with panarin for Meier? The cap space and all with a different type of player coming here and ages just makes me wonder. If they trade for Meier they have to want to resign him and that means panarin would have to go somehow.
I was wondering about that bankrupt TV deal stuff.....that likely will hurt at some point ????
If balley misses their payments to the league then the cap is going to be affected. Right now it sounds like they are going to miss the Feb payment while they file bankruptcy

If Meier is getting traded for a rental price, this shouldn't even be a discussion. He is easily worth what Horvat got, and probably a bit more. And Seravelli is exactly right about the stylistic fit, and the fact that we're at the start of our Cup window. The cap is a concern, but there will be work arounds. Timo would immediate be one of our best players. Age and skillset is such that you make it work if the opportunity is in front of you. Are we trying to win or build for the future?

What trade for Meier would be mortgaging the Rangers future? Genuinely curious because Ive seen this a lot and I dont buy it at all.

Let's just throw out a hypothetical:

NYR 1st '23 + Brennan Othmann + Will Cuylle

If nyr trades for Meier they have to want to resign him and that means panarin would have to go somehow. It is the only thing that makes any sense. Otherwise they are making the trade while sitting there and calculating the cost of the acquisition against what offer sheet compensation would be bc unless they move panarin they have no way to keep him past this season. They aren't trading trouba to accommodate another big ticket forward and Kreider alone would not work. If they are trading for Meier they want more players like him and not all the skill players only.

Hefty price I'm not sure id be willing to pay but they have a combined 2 NHL games between them and we have a 2nd first rounder this year. Meier is also 26 years old and wed be adding him to one of the younger rosters in the league. My verdict = future intact

No one is getting offer sheeted when the entire league is either tanking or has no cap space.

Unless Panarin is traded FOR Meier it probably doesn't make sense for the Rangers and, unless it's a three way job, I don't see Panarin waiving for SJ any time soon.

Meier is a fit for Gallant and the style he wants to play but he's a.) not worth it if it's a pure rental and b.) see a.) because signing him isn't going to happen whether the cap goes up 1 or 4M.

I don't see any of the NMC's waiving any time soon. Probably have to wait until Kreider's turns into a M-NTC and go from there.

If panarin goes I think it's this summer to free space for Meier resigning.

SJ is a wonderful place to play out the string.

You think some teams aren't going to leverage their cap space to get these kind of players?

I dont think Cuylle would be needed.

A top prospect and a 1st in a stacked draft is more than enough. Mark Stone went for a 'top prospect' (undersized offensive dman) and a 2nd.

Offer sheet Meier? History says teams wont because we rarely get offer sheets. The only ones we got recently were between MTL & CAR and it proved the point we always hear that GMs dont do it because they are worried about "revenge". If an offer sheet comes for Meier it will be at an amount that the Rangers could let him walk and recoup a 1st, 2nd and 3rd at minimum. I'm not worried.

This is said every year.

It almost never happens

Still waiting on that offer sheet Kakko was allegedly seeking out because he was scratched in Game 6

I don't think Kreider is a tough move tbh. Whether or not it'd do more harm than good is another conversation.

That said, all of this sounds completely speculative rather than based off of something solid.
Uh whether or not it does more harm or good is part of the equation and thus would make it a hard move period. This has so much more ramifications than the on ice aspect. There are so many intangibles that you need to look at before you move a guy like this.

Not if you don't like driving electric cars.

He’s always been pretty shy with the media due to his not being comfortable with the language. It’s not like it’s a new thing since his play has grown more frustrating. Every team has some guys who are good in front of the camera and some that aren’t. Not unusual imo.

Also I thought he was saying the right things about his own play and playing very well to start the season. He tapered off along the way and went back to being a perimeter player.
