Looking at some of the prices for the better players on market, I tend to believe that Drury will not go all in and make some cheaper, moderate upgrades. 3 pieces I predict, 3LD, middle 6 RW, and bottom 6 motor guy. I can see Maata, Watson, and Barbashev as being the outcome. We may part with Jones and Krat in lieu of picks.

Othmann is probably where I draw the line. I want Meier bad but they can’t trade their only legit top 6 forward prospect for a player with an uncertain contract situation. I’m sure Grier has favorites in the organization. I think San Jose would be very interested in Jones

1st+Jones+Krav/Cuylle/Berard?
Hell no

Who comes out for Blais?

If Leschyshyn, then Goodrow back to 4C with Gauthier and Blais.

Is Kravtsov staying out after the break? If Gallant isn’t going to play him, have to think Drury feels he’s expendable.

Can Leschyshyn get a conditioning assignment? Kravtsov?

If you aren't dealing off the roster (well, value off the roster) Othmann has to go.

I don't think he'll hold up a deal either but if he does go, they better figure out a way to keep him.

Gallant prefers to keep Vesey in the top 6 over Kravtsov, the thing is Vesey has earned it and has played very well so no reason to complain with him up there. Kravtsov has not outplayed anyone in the Top 9 to earn a spot. Gallant doesn’t see him as a 4th liner so he gets the press box.

It’s getting to the point where a decision has to be made soon with Kravtsov, he can only stay in the press box so long. Now with Blais coming back, that is likely another player he has to hurdle over to get back into the line up.

If Grier loves Othmann we have a chance at Timo...Debbies rumor is Dawson and a 1st..is Othmann ranked higher than Dawson? Debs have Nico a fellow Swiss so we need to step up and pay before he goes to Newark. If we include Othmann lets do it soon as a condition of trade.

No he isn't but I doubt the Devils part with Dawson. If they do, Meier is theirs.

I wouldn't doubt that the Sharks value Othmann more than Holtz though so if the Devils package starts there, we'd have a leg up.

If a Devil package doesn't start with Dawson or Nemec, its going to be tough for them to get him.

Joke all you like, but the hope was that if Blais found his game in the AHL at that lower pace, perhaps he can rediscover how to play at the NHL level. Part 1, the easy part, has been an overwhelming success.

But he's gonna have to bust his ass every shift to keep up.

Blais hasn’t scored a goal the entire year. He needed to put a puck in the net just to experience what that feels like. Even if it was Hartford. Just needed to break the goalless streak. He did that. 4 times. Let’s see if he can build off that.

If Blais can be the "Blais of old" then Blais / Goodrow / Gauthier *should* be a very good 4th line.

Just watched every goal from the Rangers 2014 playoff run.

Greasy goals was the recipe for success for the Rangers after the Philly series. Third and 4th line was good.

Meier is NOT happening. If he is, it means Drury and Dolan don't think this team is close to anything. Let me explain why:

To acquire Meier: Jones, 2023 1st, Chytil (or similar. SJ ask is a roster player, prospect + 1st)

or:

Jones, 2023 1st, BMB/Kravy/Cuylle + 1 more piece.

SJ to retain a portion of the salary, so NYR can add other pieces this season.

Keep in mind, if we only give up Kravy or another non-roster prospect, it means we really have to move A LOT OF salary in the offseason to keep Meier.

After this season, if you ADD ~8.5m AAV x 7 for Meier, this is what else has to happen:

We currently have 16m in cap space to sign 8 players starting in 23-24. Adding Meier means you have 7.5m to sign 7 players. Not going to happen. Esp when Laffy, Miller and Chytil have to be signed.

So who else has to leave IN ADDITION to to the pieces we gave up in the trade? Panarin, Kreider and Trouba are all on no moves. So, how many other players do we have to lose to accommodate Meier?

Chytil + Goody? Lindgren + Goody + Laffy? That would add up to about right.

So for Meier, the full cost is actually:

Jones, 1st, Cuylle, ~ a 2nd, Chytil, Goody

Or

Jones, 1st, Cuylle, a 2nd, Lindgren, Goody, Laffy

And we'd not get fair value in return for the players we need to move for cap reasons. But here's the real rub. Whoever you remove, you need to replace in the lineup. Are we finding a 2C for under 2m AAV? How bout a top 4D?

Bringing in Meier likely leaves us with a team with a lot of holes and no money or young/cheap depth to fill them.

The only other way you can make this work is by getting Kreider or Panarin to waive their NMCs. Again, pennies on the dollar in return.

You can keep talking about Meier all you want. But unless Panarin gets moved (not happening), I don't see this making any sense.

Timo makes sense only if comes with an extension and yes cap needs to be figured out. Rumor cap will go up 3 million. Our ideal scenario is that Othmann becomes Timo...a long shot at best..so Oth is the starting point..then One 1st and Jones, etc..I'd like to keep Kravy..does Garand have any value? So Timo becomes our 2nd or 3rd best player and we have him to go for cup with Mika after 20-8 and 10 are gone. We need a stud upfront and Timo fits the bill. For elite proven young talent you need to pay up and this may be the moment.
$1M cap increases until the players have paid off their debt. The cap could go up $3M instead of $1M if the big man market teams have deep playoff runs or the NHL and players association make a deal to raise the cap.

Drury isn't trading his first ever pick in Othmann. The Rangers don't have guys like him in the system and they need him for next year.

I doubt we see much more of Kravstov until there's an injury and if he's still here after March 3rd. Blais is going to start with Gauthier and Leschycyuen(sp). Cullye maybe as well here and there. Coaches love veteran grinders for the stretch run over rookies who don't exactly have man strength.

Rangers aren't going to empty the prospect pool for this run, they need ELCs next year (Othmann, Cullye, Edstrom) due to the cap crunch.

Going to the game on Monday, thank goodness it’s supposed to hit 50 degrees. It’s friggin freezing today.

We got the ASG today and some Fall Out boy, I know you guys are beyond excited lol.

Boston will not have played a meaningful game in months. I don’t think they’d want to see a team that’s been battling all year with Crosby or Sorokin in R1. Tampa is not the same team. The Leafs are better everywhere but goalie
Tampa has better depth and even with the loss on defense I still think their overall team defense will be better than Toronto. Either way it goes 7 and not sure how u can pick against TB in a game 7 considering recent TB and Leaf history

Or we can be patient and let Kakko and Laf continue to mature.

I'd imagine they would like Mercer more, as he's already an NHL player. But that isn't the sticking point here. We could easily top a Mercer + 1st offer if we wanted to. The issue is fitting Meier under the cap going forward, and that is something I can't see us solving.

If we assume we can't/won't move any of Zib, Panarin, Kreider, Trocheck, Trouba, Fox or Shesty, that leaves the following players as potential cap casualties:

Goodrow - Could be moved or worst case scenario bought out, but that alone won't be enough to sign Meier
Chytil - If both he and Goodrow were moved, we could probably squeeze Meier in, but then who is playing 3C? Brodzinski?
Miller - Given what he is projected to make, we could move him and Goodrow, but we'd just be robbing Peter to pay Paul. We have no one to replace Miller.
Lindgren - He doesn't make as much as Miller will, but combined with a Goodrow move, it might be enough to squeeze Meier in. But again, we'd take a hit to our top 4 and have no one to replace him.

The only possible scenario where I can see Meier working is if the cap goes up by 4 mil and we move Goodrow's full cap hit. But we won't know how much the cap is going up until just before the draft, so a deadline trade for Meier seems foolhardy at best.

Remember in July when Trocheck was supposed to put us over the top. Now people want to dump more of the cap into another player that will magically put us over the top, instead of allocating the time and effort into making sure our 1 and 2 overall picks are the ones that put us over the top, like every other previous Cup champion has done.
