Out of all the probably available players who would fill the hole on RW I think Tarasenko might be the best. In terms of cost and fit. Meier would be awesome but unlikely, I like Labanc but idk if SJ would retain half. Kane looks done and is hurt.
Would you put Tarasenko in the bumper spot on the PP?

One of the things that I like about Vlad as a potential rental is that a surprisingly high percentage of his goals come at even strength, especially of late.

No I wouldn't put him in the bumper. If he was put on the first unit you put him on the right wall and Zibanejad in the bumper. But my assumption is he'd just play on the 2nd unit most likely.

I still really like the idea of Kane and a extra D. Middle 6 forwards are great, but imagine a line of Panarin - Zibanejad - Kane.

Drury made a really good call last year getting Vatrano + Copp instead of 1 slightly higher tier player like the penguins getting Rakell. So maybe it's better to not get Kane and spend on a little more quantity to be better suited for any injuries
That line would be disastrous defensively.

The injury is what concerns me with Kane. Can’t trade for damaged goods

Certainly would be cause for concern If it is significant. Tocchet spoke about in on one of the broadcasts before he went to Vancouver. Sounded like he didn’t know for sure though What the severity of it is.

I do think this is very much a possibility.

Kane is 6th all time in earnings as far as NHL players go. He’s already earned north of $115 Million.

Would he do a Eric Stall deal at $750k for play for a contender?

I haven’t watched Chicago enough to tell if he is cooked, or just hampered by an injury, or even disengaged with the Blackhawks.

I just have a gut feeling that they will be in on him.

Eric Staal signed for 750 because that’s all he could get.

Kane will get way more than that else where. He’s looking to get another bag and coast into retirement. Stay away.

God no. We tried that once before and it was a disaster. MUCH rather we trade for Marc for defensive depth and experience than his brother.

Most of the top players are already under the (multi-year) contracts. New large contracts will obviously eat into the cap increase but it won’t be the whole thing and the remaining “scraps” will allow lower tier players who typically sign cheap one- or two-year get a little bit more than the league minimum.

Kane is the drizzling shits. He's not even good offensively at this point.

Has anyone actually looked up his numbers? He only has 34 points in 45 games playing 20 minutes a game, cheating like hell, in an era of basketball scores.
But just imagine what happens when we cut his time on ice in half and take away all PP minutes!

He shouldn’t even get the Vanek return when the Islanders traded him to Montreal.

I think the right deadline move would be no move at all (or something small like shoring up the bottom D pairing) and letting the kids play 20 min a game. But we all know that'll never happen because Gallant seems to value keeping his job over everything else, unfortunately. With Shesterkin having a very pedestrian season their chances of winning are no better if not noticeably worse than last year. I don't see us beating Boston, Carolina or even the Devils. We took advantage of some major injuries sustained by by opposing teams last season - the chances of us running into such luck again are very small.

Yeah but it’s a 100% guarantee that Drury will make win now moves to solidly a playoff position , say goodbye to one or both of our 1st rounders, and possible some young kids when we trade for and then extend some has been

Play the kids and live with the results*

Solidify? 9/10 years we wouldn't be as safely in as we are right now. Last year was the 10th year.

He is an offense-driving machine, even at 5v5. He picks up his linemates and brings them with him on the play. I don't know if it can work to bring him here and I'm not interested if the ask is too much or if we don't have any plan/ability to keep past this season. But I'd love to see Laf/Zib/Kak, Pan/Chy/Tar as our top-six.

I probably buy that Patrick Kane’s only been so bad this year because of the injury he’s had since last season. It’s not his fault that Chicago’s keeping him playing because it’ll be a disaster for them to have him get season ending surgery and let him walk as a UFA with no return.

But I’d be damned if I’d ever enable Panarin by bringing him to this team and letting the two of them play no defense and globetrotter offense together.

Nah they're referring to the Staal contract, not actually trading for him

I'd take Tarasenko over Kane on this team all day long.

I would too, but I certainly am not giving up a first for either of them. If I'm giving up a first it's for a cost-controlled top 6 player, OR it's part of a deal that for a Top 6 player that also clears enough cap to fit them into the team's cap structure.

I was pretty rough on Halak. Glad to be proven wrong.

The NHLPA will have a new executive director soon. It looks like Mike Gillis will be the new NHLPA executive director. Gillis brings a diverse amount of experience to the role. Former NHL player. Former player agent. Former NHL GM with Vancouver.

The salary cap could increase by more than $1M if the big market team NHL revenue teams have good playoff runs.

Bettman and Gillis will need to have a conversation.
Been saying this for a while. Raising the cap sooner is good for both sides. They’ll figure something out.

Does anyone here even want Kane? I feel like we’ve talked about how much that he’d be a bad fit here, but I honestly don’t remember anyone suggesting we even get him besides hockey media people spamming the idea.

If they’re going big, go for Meier and figure out the cap in the offseason. Otherwise, just do what you did last year by picking up more middle-six depth at forward and finding a depth dman so we stop playing Harpur. Also go get Phil Tomasino

There is no way in hell they are trading both 1st rounders. You would also be the first to bitch and moan if they don't make any deadline moves to get better and lose early in the playoffs. No matter what Drury or Gallant does it will always be the wrong thing to you.
