I rarely listen to content like this, feel like there’s not much to learn. I thought the part about Laf was interesting though.

I think this is open to interpretation of course, but what I heard is that the team knows that Laf doesn’t skate well enough to do the Huberdeau type stuff he did in Junior and they are trying to turn him into a net front, grinding type to compensate.

This tracks with what I’m seeing. It’s going to feed the narrative that they are actively ruining him. If this is true he needs to be traded while he still has pedigree/brand name value, unless they think the skating can improve.

One has to wonder how long this has been the assessment and what the team and the player have done to fix the skating problem. This feels like it should be organizational priority number one to me.

The skating argument is the dumbest thing ever.

I’m sorry, it’s not what’s holding him back. Plus I’d rather try to bring him along to he more like Jamie Been than Huberdeau anyway. He doesn’t have the strength to pull that off on the regular just yet which brings me to my next point…

I do think they need to keep him in NY this summer though. He doesn’t train with any of the top former players out of the Q. Make him train at prentiss and skate with the local guys during the summer.

time to say it again i guess

all of our ES deficiencies, every single one of them, are because Lafreniere and Kakko are 4th liners at even strength and our bottom pair is one of the worst in the league.
yeah, that's just false.

Even-strength deficiencies come from our dated system, execution of it and our 'stars'

Kakko and Laffy have 20pts at even strength. Only Panarin, Zibs and Chytil have more.
Trocheck and Kreider should have way more at Even Strength.
Panarin (31) and Zibs (27) should be closer to 40.
Fox would be in the 40pts range easily, if our forwards as a whole, didn't vastly underperform.

He was when they traded for him. He didn’t have a contract during the playoffs. The fact that they kept him afterwards is pretty irrelevant.

LOFIN beat me to it. If I remember correctly there was a vocal group here that wanted him as well to sign long-term. He simply would've cost us more.

Can I ask what drugs you are on? And how you acquired said recreational pharmacuticals?

Laf sure, you can make the arguement he's a bottom 6 forward right now.

Kakko? GFTO. Aside from doing nothing but looking at a scoresheet, every single metric shows kakko firmly as one of the top 5 forwards on the team at ES.
Im not looking at the numbers in front of me, but he's currently a shut down forward, who's also a possession monster in the offensive zone. Tell me how thats a 4th liner?

Is saying something again the secret to making something not remotely true, true?

I wish I knew this sooner!

Are we back to picking what points matter more?

I think you have a point about Panarin but Zibanejad even if he's not scoring is really, really strong defensively and it wasnt his fault Vatrano was overmatched and overplayed and Kreider tripled his ambien dose that run.

He's probably not a top 10 center in the league but he's certainly not a handicap for this team.
He's definitely a top 10 C.

Don't get the Zib hate at all.

Panarin is a different story. He's been diaper shyt soft since he took the leave of absence.

There's a pretty hot flashy sig image for some mod or sponsor.

Unfortunately yes, and this would be the most Ranger thing ever. We clamor for a homegrown, cheap Goodrow type. Here he is. Let’s trade him.

Doubt it. He’s a cheap option that’s close to being a regular . Barron was a few years in before moved

Is it me or does it feel that Auston Watson is going to be a Ranger by deadline day. Character PK guy can take faceoffs grit, not much scoring, he fits

Ideas of a playoff roster
Artemi Panarin -- Mika Zibanejad -- ??? (trade)
Alexis Lafreniere -- Filip Chytil -- Kaapo Kakko
Chris Kreider -- Vincent Trocheck --
Nick Bjugstad (trade)
One of
Jordan Greenway, Adam Erne or Nick Ritchie (via trade with some $ retained) -- Barclay Goodrow -- Jimmy Vesey

Spare (Joker): One of
Vitaly Kravtsov or Julien Gauthier
Black Aces: Jake Leschyshyn, Jonny Brodzinski, Ryan Carpenter, Gustav Rydahl, Brennan Othmann
Back to Hartford (Still an Ace though): Will Cuylle
Dealt: One of
Julien Gauthier or Vitaly Kravtsov, Samuel Blais, Zach Jones, Libor Hajek, picks (however - no 2023 1st rounder), prospect(s)

???
in the "Go for it option" = Vladimir Tarasenko (price?) or Ryan O'Reilly (price/injury status?)
??? in the "Less enthusiastic option" = Ivan Barbashev or Max Domi

We also need to acquire a real #5/#6 LD option

The best almost always wins in the NHL.

The President's trophy isn't determinative of who the best team is.
The Presidents trophy is awarded to the best team in the regular season. If you are going to use the logic of an 8th seed is a better team if they beat a 1 seed then sure Buster Douglas was a better fighter than Mike Tyson........

Better teams regularly get upset by underdogs.

Every year the board complains about the 6th D. Then when that D man is finally dumped, somehow the next man is worse. Honestly, how many teams have a legit 6th D man? You want Staal or Smith or Nemeth back?

Let’s calm down on K Miller and 7-8 year contracts. He’s got some dynamite to his game offensively, but he’s still very average defensively. 3 yrs 4-4.5M.

I don't like that I have to keep bumping this. I'm not sure he's even average defensively. He's lost.
