Ugly goals win playoff games

The fancy east/west bullshit does not

Give me a top 10 PP and a team that can score ugly goals, and that team wins a lot more than it loses

You know who’s good at ugly goals? Lafreniere. Who also had a good showing last year. Hmm.

Panarin’s fate rests on these upcoming playoffs. I could see things getting ugly if he doesn’t step up again.

He’s steadily declined each subsequent season and for an 11.6 million dollar player, we need more.

Something’s gotta be done with that NMC. GM’s hand them out like candy.

It's pretty obvious that I do not share the same level of optimism as some here regarding Panarin and Mika leading this team.

I do hope I am wrong, I don't think I am but I do hope I am.

Panarin is much more of a concern than Zibanejad. I think we could win with Zibanenad at 1C still. After him we were pretty thin down the middle.

Lekhonen wasn’t a rental.

He wasnt a rental but they gave up a 2nd and a good prospect for him when they knew he needed a new contract. Same thing with Manson. They also lost Burakovsky & Kadri in UFA because of the extensions they gave out. Maybe not a rental by definition but the effect on the roster was the same.

The point here is, don't give up premium assets for rentals unless you are sure you can re-sign them. Otherwise just not worth it. Look at Florida last year. Toronto with Foligno. Waste of 1st rounders.

I think the Rangers did fairly well last trade line, didn't overpay. Copp was a rental for a 1st, but it was a very late 1st.

THE TEMPLATE

Kreider - Zib - __________
Panarin - Trocheck - _______________
Kids
Goodrow - _____________ - Vesey

Lindgren - Fox
Miller - Trouba
________ - Schneider

How I would fill out the template and would incite a riot if Drury doesn't....

Labanc
TyJo
Bonino
Calle Rosen

Tyler Johnson?!

Agreed. No unconditional 1sts for rentals. Zac Jones and Kravtsov are just not premium assets to me. Id rather deal them and keep our picks given the option

I'm not sure which take I've seen in here recently is leaving me scratching my head more; Mika being a problem or Lindgren making sense as someone moved out.

PPG, two way center who has been our best forward by a pretty big margin this season.

Warrior defenseman plays top ES and PK minutes who only makes 3mil per year. I am honestly having trouble thinking of anyone who makes less sense to trade outside of Fox, Mika, and Igor when you take into account his salary, value to the team, value we would get back, and likely replacement level person we would put in his place.

Bonkers.

Why is term an issue? I'll go 8 years on K'Andre.

Term is an issue because of cap space and $.

Miller won't do that.

He would if:

A.) The number ($) was right

(Let's remember that Fox signed a long term deal. There's no reason to think Miller wouldn't if the numbers worked)

And the Rangers would if:

B.) They weren't so f***ed on the cap.

time to say it again i guess

all of our ES deficiencies, every single one of them, are because Lafreniere and Kakko are 4th liners at even strength and our bottom pair is one of the worst in the league.

I rarely listen to content like this, feel like there’s not much to learn. I thought the part about Laf was interesting though.

I think this is open to interpretation of course, but what I heard is that the team knows that Laf doesn’t skate well enough to do the Huberdeau type stuff he did in Junior and they are trying to turn him into a net front, grinding type to compensate.

This tracks with what I’m seeing. It’s going to feed the narrative that they are actively ruining him. If this is true he needs to be traded while he still has pedigree/brand name value, unless they think the skating can improve.

One has to wonder how long this has been the assessment and what the team and the player have done to fix the skating problem. This feels like it should be organizational priority number one to me.

"He’s been fine," Gallant said. "I wish he’d score more. I wish he’d finish more checks and stuff like that."

The offensive touch that got Kravtsov drafted No. 9 overall in 2018 has yet to pop.

He's posted six points (three goals and three assists) in 27 games this season, with his on-ice rates of 2.26 goals per 60 minutes and 2.24 xGA/60 both ranking second-to-last among Rangers' forwards, according to Evolving Hockey − this despite logging more than half of his total time on ice with the team's leading scorer, Artemi Panarin.

Gallant has lamented their penchant for costly turnovers, even though they've only allowed four goals in 161:37 TOI together, according to Natural Stat Trick. He's especially concerned about the lack of strength from the slender 6-foot-3, 186-pounder.

"He still gets knocked off the puck too easy for me," Gallant said. "There are little things in his game that have to get better, but that comes with experience. It’s no different than any of the other young kids."

He got frame, IQ and hands. That would be enough for me earlier on to support glass-half full positive bias about his development, thinking the other areas will catch up at some point. However the lack of any progress at this point makes me a lot more pessimistic. The fact that it is in large part self-inflicted makes it more bitter.

He’s got reach but I wouldn’t say that he has the frame. Dude weighs like 180 at 6’3”.

I think his IQ is average. His hands are good and his only really plus skill. He’s gone from being really intriguing when he was picked to a giant pile of meh.

Lekhonen wasn’t a rental.

He was when they traded for him. He didn’t have a contract during the playoffs. The fact that they kept him afterwards is pretty irrelevant.

Sam Rosen was on Scott Laughton show yesterday and even though I love Sam it sickened me to hear him defend the kids development by saying “the Rangers have done a great job turning these kids into 200 foot players”

Lehkonen was an RFA. When a guy is an RFA, he's not a rental. Maybe you don't re-sign him, but then you most likely trade him to recoup some assets.

But on the subject, the case of Timo Meier will be interesting. He's an RFA, but that QO is huge. Could a contender use him as a rental, and not qualify him? I think it would be costly, as SJ would not be looking at it like this. He's not a rental from their standpoint.
