Shit first half for Trouba but acting like he's a league minimum defenseman is why these graphs are meaningless to me. Hopefully the 9 days off can help him heal up for the second half because we need him.

Ok to start out , WHAT NEED AT CENTER?
We are the deepest at center we've been since probably the late 90's.
We have a legit number 1 (top 10 in the league) center.
We have a young, talented center who's performing like a top 2 center, and looking like he could take one more step and develop into a top line center or a 1B center.
We have a vet N/S center who can chip in offense, and also provide solid defense, and he can play 2c if we need.


This is the first time we've actually ever had 3 deep centers that I can remember.

Chytil simply needs to be locked up, which shouldn't be too hard.
The rangers have a single need in the top 9, and thats get vesey out of it.

Absolutely this. Center depth was a concern a year ago when our center depth was pending UFAs Zibanejand and Strome and an underperforming Chytil. It is not that any longer. The organization's needs have changed and we don't need to drool over every young center in the league.

Two thirty year olds. I’d like to have another for the future on hand. We also could use another top 9 forward even right this instant, so, win win.

If we want to bolster center depth, we should look to the draft to do it. We can draft young centers who will be ready to make an impact in 3-4 years when we need to worry about Zibanejad and Trocheck falling off. We don't need to spend our limited assets to strengthen a position that is already strong.

Trouba has been really bad, but the bolded isn't even close to true.

Trouba is kind of just there and isn't making a "just there" salary which is a legitimate criticism, but the idea that he's actively destroying the team is whipping boy sensationalism. (And, honestly, Harpur has been whatever for a bottom pair D).

Im a Kravtsov believer but yesterday he was terrible. He so obviously was pulling up when he could've laid a hit on a few different guys that he almost deserves to be scratched for a game

Nobody who's 91st percentile in xG is a league-minimum player.

I appreciate Dom's analysis of the hockey elements but his dollars and cents are off. He has guys either worth $20m+ or minimum with nothing in between.

That's not how a sport with somewhat subjective contract negotiations is going to work.

I mean Kratsov isn’t a 4th line guy. He’s been a fine player in the top 9.

The space between z-score 0 and z-score 1 is the space between Mika Zibanejad and Julien Gauthier.

Kravtsov hasn't earned the promotion, but why not? He hadn't earned the demotion to the 4th line either. The 4th line was awful and Kravtsov is entirely out of place there. He needs to be on a scoring line.

If we put Leschyshyn in the press box and drop Goodrow to the 4th line, the 4th line might actually be good. Probably the best 4th line we've had this year was Blais-Goodrow-Gauthier.

I'm a fan of what Vesey has been brining to the bottom 6 this year, but if Cullye can somehow supplant him on the third line (or the Trocheck line, call it what you want) while Vesey keeps hummin along. That would be fantastic for this team.

GG has been leaning on the top forwards a lot. All the 4th liners are below 10 minutes a game, Zib, Panarin, Kreider are all playing 1-2 minutes more a game this season than last.

Solving the 4th line is an ongoing project but at least it's better than where it was

Chytil could also play more. He's still under 15 a game. They need to find a way to get him out on the ice more often at even strength. Maybe give him the occasional bonus shift.

Yeah good point, he has looked better in a Top 9 role, but even up there, want to see more from him. It's like with Laf they have these good games now and then, but need more consistency.
