That’s my point though. If he is far from healthy, we shouldn’t have given him a contract.

I vehemently disagree. They should have offered him a 2-YEAR CONTRACT.

The 1 year never made any sense. There’s types of injuries take almost a year and a half to come back from and start feeling confident in that repair. I’m guessing the Blais we see towards the end of the season will look night and day different than what we see now.

They should have offered him zero years. He didn’t Show anything deserving of an extension

No team is trading 1 or 2 overall. I think this top two has the potential to be better than the mcdavid / eichel.
Fantilli is destroying the NCAA at 18
If we miss the playoffs and win another lottery for Fantilli, I'd be content

We'd have to get to 12 though

Why? A guy coming off an injury is unsignable now? No GM in the league operates that way.
If anything I agree with NYR Viper they should have signed him for two years if they were confident he’d recover.

With the Rangers cap situation, yes, a player making over minimum that is coming off major injury should not be given that contract when the team has other needs. Rangers don’t have the cap space to roll the dice o that. Let him do his rehab season somewhere else, no one was going to give him a multi year deal.

Disagreed. But hey neither of us is a qualified NHL GM.

Rangers need to figure out how to get a backup goalie and get rid of Halak. Drury gave a backup goalie a NMC so good luck with that. Minus Trocheck I dont think any of his FA signings have worked out. In fact most of his moves have backfired in general.

With the Rangers luck, would not be shocked but imagine if both Lafreniere and Kakko both request trades.

Garland has too much term

Meier would be a pure rental. If the team is cool with it it works for me, but it would be a very aggressive move
Garland and players in a similar situation are what we should look for, the term, with retention, is great. There are others that would be good even without retention. High priced rentals, like Meier and Kane, are a stupid waste of assets.

Maybe the Rangers have another move coming for a younger cheaper tough guy like calling up Rempe, Cuylle or trading for a young player on the cusp in that role..

The team doesn't need a tough guy.it needs someone who can find the back of the net

When, in the history of this team, have they done this? They're almost always going the UFA route to get prime time talent or getting them via UFA or trade at the end of their careers.

You can argue Zibanejad is the one time they did this, but I'm of the mind this was totally by accident.

Didn't Dolan want the Rangers to get tougher? I bet he isn't happy for not having a legit rough guy keeping things honest. What if they get bullied again? Let's wait until Johnston, Wilson, takes a run at Trouba or Fox.

It seems like such a drastic shift from last year's mentality. The team seems to lack that push-back and resourcefulness.

When the opponent scores first, we're 2-6-3.

When trailing after 1, we're 1-4-2.

When trailing after 2, we're 0-5-0. (Granted, this isn't much of a change from last year, where it was (4-19-2).

Panarin, Zibanejad, and Kreider are all still producing points, and Trocheck has been about level with Strome, offensively, but there's not a ton of game-to-game consistency. Still a habit of playing down to opponents.

Chytil is on a 50 point pace, which is nice, but I was hoping that Laf and Kakko would take a next step with some of the opportunities they've gotten with no Buchnevich, Vatrano, etc. No change from last year isn't a great thing.

Laf and Kakko are still young, and I've always felt that they will get better as they adapt physically, but it's been slow-going. But we get flashes that keep us hungry.

I mean in terms of acquiring talent on the cusp of breaking out. Not necessarily going for tough guys.
