Both Vince and Mollie believe the a top 9 forward is a bigger need.

Yeah, I listened to that podcast too. ROR is the same problem as Kane - he's a fossil that's past his prime, will cost a 1st+, and there's really no role for him on this team.

The Rangers are in the same boat as the last time they went to the Cup Final - they're thin on the blue line and the eventual injury that will happen will be devastating. Harpur has been fine in his limited role but if any of the top 4 get hurt, and they will, there's no one to fill their shoes and step up for bigger minutes. I love Schneider and his progress but it's a big ask to go from sheltered minutes on the third pair to stepping in for Lindgren or Fox or Miller. He's 21 years old.

Ranger need an experienced vet D to play on the 3rd pair that can slot forward in an emergency. I'd love a physical top 9 guy but I'm not sure Gallant would know what to do with it.

Moving Chytil to the wing for the rest of the season to accommodate ROR and then moving Chytil back to the middle for next season is a slap in the face to Chytil. That seems counterproductive. It opens up the debate on whether Chytil is better fit at C or on the W.

I have a lot of problems with Dom's player models, which are honestly terrible, but his team projections are usually pretty good. Micah McCurdy has one of the better performing playoff prediction models, and he has us at ~71% right now. I think we're realistically somewhere between the two. This division is so close right now, and there really isn't a margin for error. They need to keep winning and building on their recent play. Here's the latest update from Micah:

The Rangers are pretty much one of five teams that will fight for the 4 spots in the East with odds pretty even for each give or take. So 77% chance seems pretty reasonable median for them if not higher based on the recent trend.

I’m warming up to the idea of making a move for Chychrun. If the Coyotes would hold 50% of his salary, he becomes a flat out bargain. I’d offer a 2023 second that becomes a first (gulp) if the Rangers make the conference final, a 2024 first, Zac Jones and one forward prospect not named Othmann. That’s close enough to the Coyotes asking price to get a negotiation going. Not hearing anything out here other than the Coyotes would like to make a deal sooner than later.

He is playing extremely well and would really deepen the Rangers back end.

The gorilla in the room is still next season, the players we have to sign, and the lack of cap space we have to do it. Even at 50% retained, this move makes that even more difficult.

Any other year I'd be all in. I'm just afraid of who we're going to lose next year because of this.

i got a guy - adam erne.

big guy willing to board bodies. will scrap. good skater. has some scoring skills. what would detroit want from us? they have guys starting to come back gradually from injury and some guys will eventually have to be scratched off. also this guy is UFA after this season.

another UFA - bertuzzi.

maybe a package deal?

Yeah but the problem would be it’s Yandle 2.0, even with the same trade partner in this case. He’s not gonna get top power play minutes here and then he’ll walk as a free agent.

Except the Coyotes have said the price for him w/o retention is 2 firsts and a prospect. Whats the price with retention?

Chychrun is a great player for his cap hit, the problem becomes what assets do you give up to get him at 50% and does that make us a worse team in the long run.

He's got another 2 years after this at a fantastic value, but we've got too many kids to extend.

Erne is okay but another 4th liner honestly. I rather. power forward for the top 9. Lawson Crouse would have been a good option but his contract is too expensive. I would not mind Comtois out of Anaheim

There’s almost no way that they are in on this player even though he is supposedly on the block.

I am watching Ekholm live tonight and he is really impressive. What a player. Big, mean, can do a bit of everything. Someone is going to be very happy with him

$2.3MM (50%) is a problem??
If Arizona is eating half the contract they’re gonna want even more in a trade. Plus, with his improved play there’s going to be a bidding war for him. Not worth it for a guy like I said who is an offensive dman and won’t get power play time and just walk in free agency.

Have you looked at the players we have to sign and the money we have to do it?? Summer '23 is a clusterf***.
No, I’m new here

You need to spend some time watching Arizona. Chychrun playing very well both ways.

Give me something Bob..

would AZ go for a 2023, 2024 1st and Jones for Chych at 50%?

IMO he upgrades this team a lot more than people realize
