My issue with the laffy scratch is that a coaching staff can't have selective accountability.

You do not build organizational accountability by targeting the players on the lower rung of the ladder, which is exactly where laffy and kakko are. You gain accountability by it trickling down from the top with the big dogs, and we simply don't have it. Entitlement has crept in with this core group and it can be cancerous if it isn't dealt with...

I think Panarins decline is being overblown by a lot of people. Goodrow needs to be away from him permanently, don’t give a shit about his little heater he went on earlier this season. Guys like Hajek, Harpur, Goodrow are horrendous offensive players. It’s not just that they are bad but they kill offense for their teammates and we do not get chances whatsoever when any of those 3 are out there with our top 9. The second they put Panarin back with Goodrow he didn’t score for 20 games. GG thinks Goodrow is a good defensive player yet Goodrow+Panarin is our worst defensive line every night.
His skills are still there. His willingness to be in certain areas of the ice has noticably changed the past couple years and it has a glaring affect on his 5v5 production, effectiveness, and efficiency.

Not to mention the standard for play for the player with the 2nd highest cap hit in the league seems to be continually dropping, "he hasn't been THAT bad..." Isn't good enough.

Having Fast walk for nothing is one of the bonehead errors of the decade.

Of course you can find 2M AAV for a quality guy like that; on and off the ice. If I recall, we couldn’t be bothered with him, allocated that money for Patrik Nemeth (3 years at 2.5M AAV).

Jesper Fast, annual Players Award recipient. Locker room leader, defensive wizard, glue-guy, versatile, high-IQ player…

Really shameful decision making.

Since the tools are so obvious I was surprised that not even one of the tanking teams wanted to pick Gauthier up on waivers. That might have been even more of a wakeup call than getting zero playoff minutes, rough couple months for the guy.
I bet if he was placed on waivers now....he gets claimed before he passes 5 clubs . EDIT - I thought about that after I posted.....and got to thinking many of the bottom feeders likely do not want to get better if they want to remain in the Bedard Lottery .....so they probably pass on a potential big skilled cheap forward that needs work with his hands.....something a MSL could help with in Montreal one would think....

Nemeth was a drury signing. Letting fast walk was Gorton almost 2 years earlier.
The two have nothing to do with each other.

Has anyone kept an eye on Brandon Lemieux? Has he improved his decision making? Would he be worth bringing back at the deadline, we could use a guy who will stand up to people but is also young and can skate. Him, Goodrow and Gauthier might be interesting.

Vesey feeds Brooks info.

That said, nothing wrong with a 2/2 or 3/3 deal for Vesey.
that would be atrocious. unless you mean 1M per

I honestly dont see a need for Vesey. He's a good 4th liner. Just like he was available on a PTO, there will be a lot more available because of the cap crunch.

If you want to throw him a biscuit and give him 1year -1M extension, great.... but I also don't see Drury giving up on Gauthier and/or Blais. We can't be throwing money around on 4th liners like there's no cap.

nothing wrong. I think a player like him would want security. I’d go 3 or 4 years. Only reason I say 4 is Rangers dont have defensive prospects knocking on the door within the next 1,2, or even 3 years in my opinion. Vesey is one of our better defensive forwards by a longshot. Until the Rangers draft the next Dom Moore Jesper Fast. Players like Vesey are still valuable despite of the amount minutes he gets regardless if he is being overplayed. At least he can play wherever and not look out of place.

Vesey will have a Del Zotto career. Play for 5-10 different clubs never meeting expectations but being perfectly serviceable in a limited role.

The Rangers will continue to be the Rangers and play these types of players over their heads paying them more than market rate.

You guys need a captain, right? We have a guy.

As others will mention the Cap complication would prevent that trade from happening. Rangers just have too many big salaries.

With that said, I think any team that adds a JT Miller would be getting a really good player. Over the top? Way too hard to call, but better? Yes, way better! The club made it to the ECF and then faded out against a much more playoff experienced team. Miller would have added a lot of depth there. Tough to measure where they could have gone. In the playoffs the kid line developed into a really strong line. Millers last playoff performance he produced PPG. The Rangers top producer didn't produce at the same rate when the games got heavy. His Center (Strome) missed some of the best scoring opportunites the entire playoffs. He ended up with 2 goals, after producing 20 something during the season.

The proposal was Miller for Chytil plus. The Rangers needed Miller for Strome, which would have not worked from a value standpoint, Strome expiring status etc. Rangers had other pieces to add, but again. They were forced to made trades for expiring assets as they were really capped out. Same situation for them this season.

Miller with Panarin would have given the Rangers the Left Handed Center feeding the Right Handed Left wing. Of course theres no idea of knowing if they would have clicked or not.

At the end of the day, what really stings is that the club had him already. They had him as a protected asset along with their captain who was also a protected asset. They traded him, in the worst deal the club made in decades. Makes me angry to even look back at it.
JT Miller is a lazy turnover machine. No thanks.

Plus, don't have the cap room anyway.

At this point I'm not holding my breath but I'd like to see them finally make some adjustments with the PP this game. Don't care about breaking up the first unit, they were money all last year so that's not really my issue. If they can't get anything going get the 2nd unit on with some actual time to set up. Far too predictable right now. Give some different looks and personnel for the D to deal with. There's zero reason why Trouba should be the QB on it. You could keep Fox out there, K'Andre has legitimate skill, even if they want a RHD I think Schneider has more natural ability than Trouba. Something has to give, too much talent on this roster to be 18th in the league right now

The fact that Brooks wants to talk about Vesey over our young guys Ie Chytl, Kakko, Key who we should be locking up first.... i just have no words
Furthermore there's guys like Cullye, Berard, Othmann that need spots going forward, paying any more than league minimum for a guy to do what Vesey does is dumb and I'd really question the management group if they do something that dumb

Vesey at 1M per is fine. Might prevent true plugs like Carpenter from playing.
Unnecessary for either guy to play. Cullye can play 4th line next year, Othmann likely joins the team, maybe Berard.
