Do you guys think JT Miller would have put you guys over the top?

We really regret not taking the supposed Chytil, Lundqvist, 1st round deal.

Is there still a deal to be made for Miller?

As others will mention the Cap complication would prevent that trade from happening. Rangers just have too many big salaries.

With that said, I think any team that adds a JT Miller would be getting a really good player. Over the top? Way too hard to call, but better? Yes, way better! The club made it to the ECF and then faded out against a much more playoff experienced team. Miller would have added a lot of depth there. Tough to measure where they could have gone. In the playoffs the kid line developed into a really strong line. Millers last playoff performance he produced PPG. The Rangers top producer didn't produce at the same rate when the games got heavy. His Center (Strome) missed some of the best scoring opportunites the entire playoffs. He ended up with 2 goals, after producing 20 something during the season.

The proposal was Miller for Chytil plus. The Rangers needed Miller for Strome, which would have not worked from a value standpoint, Strome expiring status etc. Rangers had other pieces to add, but again. They were forced to made trades for expiring assets as they were really capped out. Same situation for them this season.

Miller with Panarin would have given the Rangers the Left Handed Center feeding the Right Handed Left wing. Of course theres no idea of knowing if they would have clicked or not.

At the end of the day, what really stings is that the club had him already. They had him as a protected asset along with their captain who was also a protected asset. They traded him, in the worst deal the club made in decades. Makes me angry to even look back at it.

Your view is so… biased to put it mildly. No one is burying kids no one is asking Lafreniere to play “safe”. Playing responsibility and with an effort like let’s say Kakko or Chytil is not burying. Even Kravtsov who has his own warts stemming from lack of physical preparedness because of missed year last year has played with more effort on a shift by shift basis.

Do you think Lafreniere has been allowed to be creative on this team? I don't. I think he's been forced to play a certain way that isnt what he was drafted for. Kids like him need to be able to just play without having the rug pulled from them when things arent perfect. His confidence is shot, you could see it as soon as he was taken off the Zib line for an off shift. I'm sure theyll get him to be a good little third line checker if they keep benching him though, meanwhile Jimmy Vesey isnt missing games and is the most vanilla player we ever had. Tell me this, why can Kreider play right wing if he's on a line with Panarin but can't do it any other time? Answer that one and you'll figure out who is calling the shots on this team.

My guess its Brodz for that penalty he took. There's absolutely no margin of error for some players on the team, some others can back hand pass to the other team for breakaways and hand the puck over nightly without missing a shift.

I'm being snarky but the teams big problems are the exact same they were with Quinn - the best forwards are soft and willful and if they can't be coached to play differently you're just f***ed. It's year four of this.

That said nothing about that made Kakkos first couple years of way below par - he himself was way below par. No part of that made Laf a constant passenger, that's him. You don't need to be fully developed to do something and be impactful. It takes no talent to skate around like Dryden Hunt and hit shit. You can do other stuff but contributing to the team is a pretty low bar to clear.

Nothing is stopping Julien Gauthier from being an average defender except for Julien Gauthier. That's what gets him scratched.

Has nothing with your handle (I didn’t even noticed it). It is biased because your intro sentence says that kids are buried which is absolutely not the case. Further you said Gallant wants to Lafreniere to remove creativity from his game which is not the case either unless you think the youngster should stick-handle through opponents in his own zone or make risky plays trying to get out of zone. He needs to play responsibly which is not mutually exclusive from being creative when situations allow for it. There’s more about who earned / allowed for longer leash between different groups on the team but it’s been said here numerous times so I don’t feel like regurgitating it for you again.

Actually Blais hits, disrupts, agitates, draws some penalties and plays more defense than Gauthier. All while rehabbing a completely deconstructed/reconstructed knee.
I like Gauthier and I think he’s starting to put it together, but he’s not exactly a world beater yet either. I think it’s fine to rotate them in the lineup, depending on opponent.

Since the tools are so obvious I was surprised that not even one of the tanking teams wanted to pick Gauthier up on waivers. That might have been even more of a wakeup call than getting zero playoff minutes, rough couple months for the guy.

None of what you wrote has anything to do with Gauthier being scratched for his defense and consistency. Which is what I wrote about.

If Jimmy Vesey can learn defense there is nothing stopping Julien Gauthier except Julien Gauthier.

Sure (I still think Brodzinski is the best option if Gallant needs to use Goodrow elsewhere).

The team has 13 forwards and whoever is the 13 is arguably just as capable 4th liner as 10-12 on any given night and should be rotated based on effectiveness. Its pretty much set at this point and I don’t see a reason to deny Gallant making this call.

Interesting re. bolded. Could you take a look what % of games Gauthier has been in the lineup since his first game? Especially lately there should be barely any difference. So why’s the outage?

eh i don’t agree. Despite his stat line i think Goodrow offers very little in ES offense and he should really be stapled to the bottom 2 lines, particularly the 4th.

@Raspewtin nice picture. Psylocke was my favorite character in Children of the Atom and also The Clones Wars Saga on Sega Genesis.

I really hope she gets a do over in the MCU Phase 5. They can even start her as OG Betsy and do the body swapping with Kwannan/Revanche and eventually her as Captain Britain as part of the storyline (please leave all of Cyclops/Magneto and especially Jean Gray out of the first two new films).
