He has to go just like Hunt before him because the coach puts him in the top 6 where he doesn't belong.
He will just be replaced by some other very cheap vet forward who is overused. It’s partially the coach, but it’s also the reality of the salary cap impacting team depth and having a skilled team with too many players that stop doing the little things too often. Last year it was Hunt, year before it was Blackwell, this year it’s Vesey. We had a nice run with Fast but he and guys like Hagelin are hard to hold onto if you’re paying a lot for your top 5-6 players on your team. When it’s multiple coaches over many years doing the same thing, it’s just a reality.

It is exceedingly rare that this team has and keeps players that play their best hockey with this sweater on.

With that said, I hope they resign Vesey for 2 or 3 years.

Also, when all you guys say "Easily replaced", what you are advocating is the continued signing and presence of players like Carpenter, Rooney, Glass, Hunt, etc. in the lineup. You are supporting the very thing you hate. Good players are never "easily replaced", no matter their spot in the lineup.

Depends on the deal for Vesey but I’d be open to it. He’s an elite defensive player, and I think the secret is kinda out so I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes elsewhere for more money.

If he wants to hook the Rangers up for a deal cause he likes playing here, that would help

Having Fast walk for nothing is one of the bonehead errors of the decade.

Of course you can find 2M AAV for a quality guy like that; on and off the ice. If I recall, we couldn’t be bothered with him, allocated that money for Patrik Nemeth (3 years at 2.5M AAV).

Jesper Fast, annual Players Award recipient. Locker room leader, defensive wizard, glue-guy, versatile, high-IQ player…

Really shameful decision making.

Just a completely needless loss. Look at that whole offseason after the bubble. Blame Tom Wilson & Dolan all you want, but a series of horrendous moves by Gorton & Davidson is the real reason they were fired.

Fast/Staal/Henrik all moved for cap space, only for it to be given to DeAngelo (buyout 5 games in), Lemiuex (trade request), Georgiev (malcontent) & Jack Johnson (need I say more). Not to mention we had immediate rumors of locker room issues. That doesnt happen under Henrik & Staal's watch.

Vesey will have a Del Zotto career. Play for 5-10 different clubs never meeting expectations but being perfectly serviceable in a limited role.

The Rangers will continue to be the Rangers and play these types of players over their heads paying them more than market rate.
Please tell me how much they overpaid for his services this season?

Furthermore there's guys like Cullye, Berard, Othmann that need spots going forward, paying any more than league minimum for a guy to do what Vesey does is dumb and I'd really question the management group if they do something that dumb

Unnecessary for either guy to play. Cullye can play 4th line next year, Othmann likely joins the team, maybe Berard.
While absolutely possible, no need to rush anyone. All three above may need more time in AHL

Elliotte Friedman was discussing the 2023 draft with Jeff Marek. 32T podcast. Teams are reluctant to trade first round picks in this draft. Teams are saying they will not pay the high rental prices other teams paid in previous years. Elliotte brought up the Giroux, Chiarot & Savard rental trades which involved first round picks for rentals.

The Rangers have two first round picks in this draft. Drury better not trade a first rounder for a rental.

Hold onto the 2023 1sts. But the 2024 1st could be on the table.
Why? To bolster a one trick pony group that is iffy to even make the playoffs?

I'm not trying to be a dick or anything... I just haven't seen one thing from this group to make me think they're a deadline trade away from anything other than "slightly better" mediocrity

If Vancouver offered their 2023 1st (top 3 protected) + Horvat (would be pure rental for us) for Lafreniere; would you consider it? Close? Modifications?

Sure but tarasenko and ROR are the only two pieces that they have that would be "sold"
Theyre not moving Thomas or Kyrou.

Rather go after Barbashev. ROR will cost way too much. Barbashev is underrated and Rangers drafted his brother this past draft.

I mean you would kind of have to, but I don’t think that’s happening.

I think for Lafrenière, if they are motivated, maybe you do something like Lafreniere and Blais (cap filler) for Garland (maybe retention needed), Podkolzin (change of scene young guy) and Schenn (cap filler)

That kind of makes sense to me? It’s not great but Lafreniere’s value isn’t very good at the moment either

What’s the difference between this years team and last years pre-deadline? If anything we are more well rounded and not getting historically good goaltending. I don’t want to trade any firsts but this seems dramatic.
