I don't really see the treatment being out of line with other recent high draft picks who have been disappointing so far.

Holtz plays 10 minutes per game and is constantly a healthy scratch
Byfield was playing 11 minutes per game, got demoted, and just came back up
Slafkovsky is playing under 12 minutes per game on a rebuilding team
Shane Wright has played under 10 minutes per game
Kent Johnson is under 14 minutes per game on a terrible team (up recently due to a ton of injuries)
Guenther playing under 13 minutes per game on Arizona before the WJC
Wyatt Johnson playing 14:30 game in a L3/PP2 role
Marco Rossi was barely playing, constantly scratched, and now is in the AHL.
Jack Quinn has been good...at under 14 mins/game (he's had a consistent line).
Mason McTavish is under 15 minutes a game playing on the 3rd line with awful linemates (but has been PP1 lately)

People like to make it out like the Rangers are doing something totally different to everyone else but they're really not. Those are all top 10 picks from the 2020 draft to 2022 draft. McTavish is the only one there who gets consistent PP1 time. Only a few players have really been productive and are consistently played in big roles (Power,Beniers,Stutzle,Raymond,Sanderson). His play isn't good enough but blaming the team for the usage is a cop out. If he played better you'd see flashes and he'd work his way up. Starting in a 3rd line/pp2 role is common for most young players.

McTavish has been one of the few silver linings for Anaheim's putrid season. Really like his game. He has that physical presence and is a puck hound like Kakko and has a great shot, and is also showing a lot of playmaking ability on the NHL level. That is why I love Kakko's game. the points are not there for Kakko but I notice him doing stuff most shifts, where as Laf is invisible most of the time and not engaged. This is why Kakko is getting another shot on the Top line, he does the little things, and shows the effort.
now do the vets?

Expect the kids to be consistent? what about the established veterans? They get passes because they have bigger paychecks?

The only vet I think has earned a healthy scratch is Trouba but Gallant will never do that.

The GG reactions so far this year seem to be on par for the course... some legitimate times of concern or questioning layered in a ton of overreaction. I don't love hearing how stubborn he is at times, but why is the sky always falling in NYC?

we won 8 of 9 before the break, this feels like a serious overreaction

it was a tough loss but one that every team has from time to time. I don't think it was uniquely bad.....

This is the norm around here. They played a meh game last night, lost, just have to move on to the next one. If they start going on a losing streak then it's time to have some concern.

so weird because last night, they totally changed up their PP style with Zib dropping down low. It was weird because I noticed Ovi doing the same on the WSH PP first. Both of these players left their office maybe because the coverage was too much. I feel like Panarin is also dangerous in that spot so they could cycle the puck to get both of them chances from that area. Zib was dangerous last season because he always had Kreider as a filthy option down low but Kreids seems to have forgotten how to score from just left of the goalie. So many filthy tips last season. It's like they either gave up on that shot or the other teams know how to defend against it. Anyways, long post to say the PP needs some work.

I feel like Gallant doesn’t coach, he just moves players around.

Watch them go on another winning streak lol.

His coaching record, and reputation with the players he coached would suggest otherwise.

In one season, with 14 returning skaters and the same netminders he took a team that finished 7th in the Metro to the Eastern Conference finals.

With that said he does come up with some weird comments. He likely juggles lines too much to maybe doesn't always make the right moves in terms of who he plays where...but. He is a successful coach at the highest level of competition in the sport.

Why are you generalizing based on one post-shitty game practice? All of the kids line has gotten plenty of top-6 ice time throughout this season, last night Lafreniere didn’t play with any type of noticeable effort or urgency. So the coach can’t demote him for a game or two (likely way less) to rid of complacency out of young pro with high expectations (this is his 3rd season in the NHL if you didn’t notice)?

I see some complacency but I also see a kid who is lacking confidence. He is not doing the small things well for sure. But the question is, do u motivate a young kid thru demotion and changing line mates or do you find a way to get him some PP time. Get him a goal or a few assists to get him going, get a bit of confidence. Coach needs to be able to do both demotion and promotion to help kids grow. But if winning is far above development we will be losing to the devils for the next 15 years.

Listen I don't think the kids are consistently good enough but the way Panarin can missfire 77 passes in one game and Zibanejad who hasn't skated hard in two years and get rewarded with 22 minutes of prime ice time in games just makes my head hurt

I really don't want to go hard on this team that just pulled off a very impressive streak but it feels like the tiniest shake of their confidence collapses the whole f***ing thing and they go back to slow motion, every pass in skates, dump in but no chase garbage.

when do the players that perpetuate that god awful style face accountability?

Losing last night wasn't the problem, playing like they don't want to be there is the problem.soft, uninspired play is the problem.playing like they just don't care is the problem.
the ones who perpetuate the "going through the motions" style when we look like shit the most are the ones getting almost 20 minutes a game regardless of how it's going.

I'm willing to chalk last night's loss up to a holiday hangover, it obvious they just weren't sharp enough.

But the problem with this team is they have these wild swings of focus. They can be a greatly skilled team firing on a lot of cylinders one night or even for a stretch of nights and then lay an egg. And it's almost always on home ice, which is troubling.

The bad start will catch up to them, the way this division is running. The hottest teams in the league are Carolina, Washington and the Rangers with Pitt right behind. They have little slack in this conference and they need to bounce back quickly.

I do think that once push comes to shove and the games really start to matter (which is like, um, soon) they'll play a more consistent, team game - even if they take a loss or two. Gallant needs to get them back to approaching every game the same way, buying into the system and sticking with it. Although, I'm not sure how much the constant line juggling affects that.

It also cant be vesey or some crap like that. Make a f***ing statement. Anyone of Trouba, Krieder, Panarin, Zibs could all take a seat for their terrible and inconsistent play

I dont believe this is coming from the top, i think this is Gallant trying to save his job.

Yikes.. not a fan of the past couple pages I’ve read. Laf on the 4th line, Gallants comments. Smh.

Cam Reddish was a DNP-CD last night with Brunson and RJ out. Deuce, Q and IQ played 46 min +. You play the guys you feel will help you win. Knicks fans were (maybe still are?) cised for Cam. I've seen every minute of his Atlanta career, most of Duke, and a lot of Westtown. He aint it. But the fans only care about age and reputation. Thibs don't give an S.

Stop line numbering. Also, he's lucky he's not a DNP-CD.
