I don't think KAM is anywhere close to 5. Closer to Lindgrens deal.

Laffy should be similar to what Kakko and Chytil got.

Chytil may become the issue.
Yep I agree, I'm being very generous to leave little doubt... even if Chytil hits the 50 mark this year how much is he getting? Trocheck is a career +50 point player with a 70 point season under his belt and got 5.6. A bridge deal for Chytil probably puts him in the 4s, maybe 4.5. Either way, I wouldn't get too worked up we have the cap space. I'm not sure people realize we have 17.6 million in cap space this summer

Guys I wouldn't get too worked up about the numbers here. It would've been an issue if someone broke out like a superstar... we're working with 17.6 million in cap space this off-season , thats without any cap increase. You gotta figure a bridge deal for Chytil and K'Andre wont be more than 5 each. Looking at what Chytil and Kakko got, how much is Laf going to get ? The 3 main RFAs shouldn't cost more than 12 million if they bridge them, and that might be a little generous.. could be closer to 10. Bare minimum, should be at least 5 million to work with, plus whatever the cap increases by. They'll have 8 guys set in the top 9, 5 guys set on defense. Need a back up goalie. Main roles are set, the open spots will be cheap to fill. If they keep Blais, Gauthier, Hajek and/or Kravstov theyre not getting raises. Brodz has been good in a 4th line role, he's got another year. Vesey has been fine, he was signed on a minimum deal. Hopefully Drury doesn't turn around and re-sign him for too much money. Those guys are available every off-season. Corey Perry has spent the last few years as a solid, cheap bottom 6 player. Same thing for Spezza in Toronto before he retired. Mark Giordano makes 800k a year now. Effective bottom line players are available for cheap

Chytil wont (and shouldnt) sign a bridge. They should offer him a contract like RNH or the rumored Horvat offer (8 x 5.125). They can squeeze under the cap, especially if they milk these Trouba injuries into LTIR next year

For next year, I don't think there is too crazy of a cap crunch. Unless Chytil keeps this pace up, I think we could see a similar deal to Hintz (3x3.15). It might not be wise in terms of getting some UFA years, but this is where the team is.

Lafreniere would get the Kakko deal, pretty much exactly (2x2.1). Miller is interesting because he has been up and down, but a bridge deal is again most likely. I could see the same type of deal Nurse signed off his ELC (2x3.2M). That's roughly 8.5M for those three. Could be up to 9M if Chytil comes in a little higher.

You have then 8.6M for the rest of the roster. Gauthier wouldn't cost anything much, same for Hajek, but he should be gone, maybe both, but I'd prefer to keep Gauthier as a 4th liner. Othmann is at ~900K, he'll make the team. Jones is an RFA, but what is he going to get since he is in the AHL again. Could they even ask him to take a cut from the 925K? Brodzinski as a spare for 762K is good. Krav is an RFA as well, but what is his value? We don't really know, and he could just not accept a QO and go back and play in Russia. I'm not counting on him being on the team next season.

(Using the lines from last game minus Vesey and plus Othmann)
Panarin-Zibanejad-Goodrow
Lafreniere-Chytil-Kakko
Kreider-Trocheck-Othmann
XXXX-XXXX-XXXX
Brodzinski

Lindgren-Fox
Miller-Schneider
XXXX-Trouba

Shesterkin
XXXX

~7M for three forwards, two defenders, and a backup G. Wouldn't spend much on the backup G. Seeing if Vesey takes 750K again would be a good thing. Internal options like Cuylle and Trivigno making under 1M. Maybe Berard comes out of school? I'd think AHL time to start for him makes more sense.

This Charlie Lindgren talk is insane. You don't sign someone just because their brother plays on your team.

They went with the veteran option with a career .915 SV%, who suffered in VAN due to porous defene that only Thatcher Demko can survive. He's tormented the Rangers his whole career, and has posted solid numbers everywhere else in his career other than Vancouver. It was a risk, but not the biggest one. No one could have predicted it turning out this horribly.

Lindgren is revisionist. Hindsight is 20/20 and I'm sure all 31 other teams would have signed him if they could go back and re-do after seeing the way he's started and especially this week. But to place your eggs in the basket of a 29-game guy on a multi year deal as a contending team needing to bank points from backup and keep Shesterkin fresh due to his stretch of groin injuries? Yeah no.

Sure, it would have been the best course of action looking back, but thats easy to do. Lindgren had never played more than 14 games in a season. Conversely, Halak has been an NHL starter at various points and filled in during Rask's injury troubles and absences in Boston quite nicely as recetly as 3/4 years ago.

I'd expect both Halak and Lindgren to both trend more towards the middle of the pack in terms of play. Lindgren has always been good when called up, but once again, lets pump the breaks on labelling him an elite goaltedner until he does it for a full season of backup/platoon duties.

I think the cap will jump the 4M but Chytil vs. Goodorw could not be an easier decision. Lets just hope Gallant doesnt have a say.

I do think Chytil puts himself in a position this year to show that he's invaluable to the Rangers. Mika-Chytil-Trocheck is the center depth weve craved for the Rangers as long as I can remember

I agree.

It must have been too late last night when I was messing around on CapFriendly. This works and it is very good.

I wonder how many years at $4.5M for Chytil. 5? Take him to 28-29 years old?

Miller if he hits like 30 points he might get ~4M.

Chytil if he continues to pace, ~5M

Plus Kane and his extension for being nice enough to waive for the Rangers is probably going to cost something.

Don't think it's a bad idea at all.. it'll be interesting to see if Drury tries to lock in one the RFAs long term

if you're going to trade for another LHD they desperately have to be a good puck mover. that is a top priority. Fox can't do it all and it's a big part of why our transition is godawful. Trouba sucks at passing. Lindgren sucks with the puck period. Schneider is improving there and pretty good skating with it. KAM is hit and miss. We were hoping Jones would make an impact but he hasn't, and I believe he was given chances too, he just didn't perform.

I don't think it needs to ball out on a top pair D but our puck moving sucks ostrich nuts and we desperately need improvement
To add to this, our defenseman being terrible with the puck in the o-zone is why our offense looks so one dimensional at times. They stink at getting pucks past the circles from the point and they stink at getting them into dangerous areas if they skate anywhere below the face off dots.

This is a good point. Fox is the only one who does anything. Schneider is getting decent at shooting. That's it.

They can't even just get point shots. Lindgren and Miller handle the puck too poorly at the line to get shots consistently and Trouba couldn't hit the net with a military-grade targeting system.

Miller is weird. He's very, very good at carrying the puck, and solid at distributing it, but he can't handle it at all when it's coming towards him.

If that's who he is, that's fine, I love the player overall, but it's a weird tendency.

The players should get their own accountants to check the numbers on that.

The team really doesn't have a cap crunch. Othmann, Cuylle, Rempe, Trivigno and Brod are all 3rd and 4th line options. Domingue or Garand for backup. Resign Vesey. Maybe resign Goat. Laf will get the Kakko bridge. Miller will get the Lindgren deal most likely, but I hope they try to go long and get something similar to the Samuelsson deal in Buffalo. Chytil will get between 4-5 for 4-6 years. The cap will be fine.

*Bobby Trivigno is used to be a placeholder for what I think Vesey would resign for. With Vesey, Move Othmann to Chytil line, Vesey with Tro and Goodrow with Brod. Trivigno in Hartford and Cuylle 12/13th forward with Goat.

I didn’t even want to mention Trouba because he can get the puck thru but only using Dustin Byfuglien’s slap shot with Michael Del Zotto’s accuracy.

I really wish anyone at all would tell him the point slapper went extinct 6 years ago but I’d be worried that would make him even more useless offensively.

Not playing good enough. If you don't win, you didn't score. We lost to bad teams with bad goalies. Our fault. If they need to score 4 or 5 goals a game to ensure a win then we better damned start scoring 6.
