Which is exactly why we won't trade them.Which means the Rangers drafting high enough and getting KK and Laf was very good luck for the team's future.
What if Zbad say he requires 7 years, and he'll just enforce his no movement clause right up until his contract ends naturally next off-season if they try to trade him?
Not saying it will come down to that, usually these things work out with some sort of compromise, yet the Rangers only real leverage with Zbad it to say that's just too high, can we trade you or do you want to play out your contract?
edit: Should mention though I agree with you, normally if he were a UFA I'm not interested in anything that brings him past 33-34 years old as "arbitrary" as that may or may not be.

Stole this post from the Blueshirt Banter comment section. Eichel trending in the right direction, Zibanejad not so much.

Honestly - 100% dependent on the cost to acquire - I’m fine with Eichel. I think he’s a gamer. I think he’d bring some fire and want to win at all costs mentality with him. I don’t have concerns about his character based on the Buffalo situation. Look how bad it’s gotten - virtually every good player they have has stated they want out.
Eichel is the youngest point per game top flight center this team has had any hope of acquiring in a long time. He is an elite talent, and I actually believe we haven’t even seen the best of him due to Buffalo’s constant shit show. I feel he has even more to give.
I would not move all of these pieces but the list of pieces I would be willing to part with would look like:
1st Rounder (whatever year)
Kreider (wishful thinking)
Buch (reluctantly)
Lundkvist (reluctantly)
Strome
Chytil
Jones
One of KAM or Krav BUT the deal would have to be smaller and more reasonable. Like Strome/Krav/1st that’s it.
I do think Eichel would actually thrive here and, if DQ is sticking around, he won his only NCAA title coaching Eich.
I would believe that there would be a team or teams out there who would like to bring Zibanejad in and offer him a contract almost immediately. They would be teams looking to win in the next 3-4 years, say Colorado or Vegas as examples. There may be others. I would ask the player where he would like to play after determining what teams would be interested and work out a sign and trade with one of those teams.
The Rangers will know what his contract requests are. They can share that with the team(s) that are interested and if the new team(s) and Zibanejad are close they may pull the trigger.
That way the player has financial security going in to next season when he could get hurt and lose market value. There is risk in Zibanejad going in to next season without an extension as well.
We've mentioned Vegas multiple times but a team like Colorado would be a home run for a player like Zibanejad too.
Laf is going nowhere. He's the future captain.Eichel is a stud. The injuries and the thought of giving up Laf scare me though.
Would like to see Eichel's play after neck surgery, before unloading a pile of assets for him.
7 years for Mika is a non starter for me.What if Zbad say he requires 7 years, and he'll just enforce his no movement clause right up until his contract ends naturally next off-season if they try to trade him?

Just checked him out, doesn’t seem to be saying anything outlandish or out of the ordinary so doubt that guy has any sources. I’d trust Dagoons sources at this point for Twitter rando like that.Is that Mickey8Rangers guy on Twitter a true insider? He's saying things...
Based on that username alone I'd say no.Is that Mickey8Rangers guy on Twitter a true insider? He's saying things...
lol nothe best way to improve at C is trade Strome and give Chytil his minutes
This is also a point of contention as it comes to a trade. Eichel wants this specific neck procedure done that doesn’t have a lot of history. Would the Rangers be ok with him getting that type of surgery or are they not comfortable with it?Would like to see Eichel's play after neck surgery, before unloading a pile of assets for him.

After reading that Friedman article I’d say you are probably right on that. They probably aren't.
We won't.
Just because Sabres fans think its possible doesn't mean that it actually is.
