My concern would be that he inexplicably has pretty solid no-trade protection through the end of the deal. Ottawa might not be high on his list, though if they plan on using him in the NHL and the Rangers don't, it might be convincing enough for him. Maybe that's something the Rangers need to consider about his placement this season.

Agreed. He still has 10-team NTC on the backend of it and I would assumee and his agent probably have teams like Ottawa and Arizona strategically listed there because they know it's a possible dumping ground for his contract.

I think it's a 10 team trade list (a 20 team no-trade list).

He’s been liking this stuff for a while. It’s super funny cause
A)he’s not going to get more than that
And B)he’s the one that will be petty and hold a grudge because of it
I'm wondering what next season might look like for him. There may be some resentment building from these contract talks. Also, I have very little insight into his personality, but I have a hunch it's ... unique. I worry taking Vesey and Hayes out of the mix might be a weird transition for him, like when the Yankees traded Sheffield and A-Rod had no friends left.

There was a market for Zucc during the 2018 trade deadline, but the deal with the lightning kept things on hold.

There was definite interest in him around the league. He was a very cap friendly player at that time.
I think that supports the concern that Kreider isn't going anywhere until February. There was interest in Kreider too. Deals on the table that fell through. Now cap is drying up. Rosters are getting set.
You do what you have to. But we risk injuries or self-rental thoughts. Kreider can be a Hayes like return or nothing.

$874,125 per for Deangelo and Lemieux

Need another D. Lindgren is at $925,000.

There is just enough to operate the team during the season. Short term injuries. Call ups.

The Rangers don’t have enough room for the bonuses. They will have to carry them over to the 20-21 cap. Barring any major trade to clear money like Kreider, the Rangers will carry over any bonuses if they don’t have the space this season. If the bonuses are achieved.

The bonus cushion is 7.5% of the upper limit. $6,112,500.

my first and biggest take away from that roster is that with lemieux that is 13 forwards...and none of those guys should be sitting. so unless one or more of the kids start the year in hartford than you need to move atleast 1 forward and then carry nieves or mckegg as the 13th forward which depending on how is moved out should clear a nice chunk of cap space

The Rangers would have received a 1st round pick for Zuccarello if Minnesota didn’t give Zuccarello 5 years. Mike Russo reported the Wild were the only team offering 5 years. The Wild already fired their GM.

Dallas was offering 4 years and the money was the same with no state income tax in Texas.

Fenton lost his job as karma just like Chiarelli lost his job for nixing the McDonagh trade.

Agree but now that we’re keeping Smith we could go 21 rostered, we still would need to move a F like you said. Time for that

And yet people here think that we did one painful move and somehow it’s all over. No. Kreider could still get drawn into our cap squeeze. Names, Strome, ADA, Lemieux and Fast also. Shattenkirk was just the second (Vesey) of what will have to be several post-Panarin deals to make he numbers work.

Which is fine imo. I'm expecting the Rangers to finish with 82-88 points this upcoming season, which is a step forward but not a playoff team.

With a Kreider trade, what you can do is get
  • A 2020 1st with a lower end prospect.
  • A 2020 2nd with a higher end prospect.
  • 1:1 swap with a younger cost controlled NHL forward.
The Rangers have $16M in cap space next year with 7 NHL level forwards signed. I know people kept saying they only need to sign 2 for $4M somehow, but the math doesn't work.

You also have Names & Fast as rental offerings, at the very least you will get:
  • A 3rd for Fast
  • A 4th for Names
This will be the last sell-off imo before the team tries to take a step next year.

Minnesota's owner had some interesting quotes after the Fenton firing. He wants to compete for a playoff spot.

Kreider would be a good player for them. I'd do a straight Greenway for Kreider swap.

There aren't many teams that can make a trade like that and have it work.

one of names, strome or fast is history.

the 4th line would be fine with mckegg or boo. better value there for 4th line minutes.

I would not be happy with that deal for a couple of reasons.

Wait why not? I'd do that deal in a heartbeat
I think you have a team in a tailspin that is desperate for players like Kreider so I would like to think that they could squeeze more out of Minnesota. I'd also like to get a pick in there as well.

I never knew the Knicks and Rangers had the McKinsey consulting firm working with them, though it's probably not too weird in the sports industry. Article says there were problems with the Knicks, but there are always problems with the Knicks.
