Signing Thornton and Marleau isn't a bad option. They will take short term deals and if it backfires and the team isn't competitive they are prime assets to trade at a deadline. Both are looking for their first Cup. Same goes for someone like Kovalchuk.

I'd sign all 3 to two year deal.

I'd also sign Hartnell for 2 years at something like $2.75m per season.

Trade Nash.

When did the Yankees flip pieces outside of last deadline? They kept Cano, kept Granderson, bought Prado, Headley, and McCarthy in 2014, almost traded Mateo for Kimbrel in 2015. The Yankees had no core pieces to trade, unless you want to count Gardner.

They were trying to 'appease' the fanbase. Obviously the fans got restless, Cashman took a bold stand and moved his valuable pieces for a core he could build around.

Yankee fans were CALLING for a SELL, There were MORE people willing to SELL last year than people who wanted to buy. Yankee fans wanted to see Sanchez, wanted to see Judge, they wanted to se what was rated a top 10 farm system get even better.

That's why the Yankees decided to sell ultimately, because the fans forced it.

I think we're going to have an... interesting season.

Not something we're used to. My opinion can change with a few key moves, but I don't see it. Not pessimism, as I'm still psyched to see young guys get practice and emerge, but I don't see us being all that competitive in our division the way things are going.

They could always surprise and we've some days of chaotic free agency to go through.

I'm cool either way. Rock out this year, or start prepping for the years to come.

If my girlfriend lived in NYC, I had family in NYC, grew up a ranger fan and it's the only team where I have a shot at the cup? Yes

The other thing to note is that many ex-Rangers get jobs for the NHL Network. That may not pay as well as $10m but for a guy who would like to settle eventually in that area it's an ice second career option. Rupp. Weekes. Gomez.

Especially if I went to a company that treated me much better than its competitors.

Rangers arrogance right there. They treat their players so well that a majority of them are bought out or traded half way through their contracts.

Don't know about you guys, I can't see doing something like that after retiring.

Is there anyone here who would leave 10 mil on the table to live and work in NYC?

And play for my childhood favorite team? Yes absolutely.

Especially if the 10 mil I'm missing out on is the difference between like 49 and 39. Not like 12 versus 2 or something.

Obviously it's different when you're in the situation though.

I mean this thread is literally unbearable with the same handful of people reiterating their views on how we're doing everything wrong over and over and over again. I desperately want to ignore it but it's the only thread for news and rumors.
Agreed. I read it for the news and rumors but it's tough sometimes weeding through a million fantasy trade proposals for players that likely aren't even available.

GM Viper "making the Rangers 2001 again!"

Idk you always hear from current and former players that the Rangers treat their players a step above the rest of the franchises in the league.

I remember Avery's players tribune article going into detail about it. How the accommodations aren't better, the team pays for more thinngs for you, better per diem, more involved in making sure your life outside of hockey is great.

A lot of backups and 4th line scrubs get into broadcasting once they retire. Something about them. They all have good speaking skills and have specific personalities.

I guess I'm a mercenary.

taking "less money" when it involves like 50M compared to 40M... yeah... that's not entirely different whatsoever...

It was a joke that Cano felt "disrespected by the Yankees" because they ONLY offered him 175M, and the Mariners offered him 240.

Henrik Lundqvist

Question. Let's just say for whatever wacky random reason we were terrible this year, and decided to move our valuable pieces and be sellers at the TDL, hypothetically if Hank wanted to have a chance to make another run, what would be his most likely destination?

Maybe he was just comparing that to the Stars. Of course he was going to be jaded about how the Stars treated him considering how things ended there.
