I still say trade all the vets and offer sheet Draisitil to near what Edmonton paid Mcdavid. (overpay for sure, but he's elite too, and you get a franchise center)

part of me is kidding.

Trade McDonagh and Zucc to rebuild to MAAAAAYYYYBBBEEE draft a franchise center, and then have absolutely no realistic way of filling the holes left by McDonagh and Zuccarello.

Sounds like a fantastic plan.

Wasn't Andersson's comparable Palat?

Palat as a center is similar to Steps but faster. So, for anyone who'd play Andersson over RNH next season................. and why do people advocate playing Thornton while Andersson becomes Mats Sundin in approximately two years?

Signing Thornton short term would be the best move to help serve as a stopgap for Mika and Hayes and allow Andersson and Chytil to develop. He's the only free agent I truly want with Shattenkirk (depending on term) being second

The Rangers should sign Thornton just so they have someone who scores more meaningless empty net goals than Nash. :sarcasm:

He had 7 goals last year. Only 4 were against goalies.

You don't sign Thornton for goals lol.. but he would help in face offs, defensive center, possession, and he might (might) get Nash going again.

If you can get mackinnon do you trade Mcdonagh? hypothetically..

I'm not trading him for just picks.

Chytil's "comparable" was Palat and that's literally only because they're both Czech and TSN knows nothing about European prospects.

They're not similar at all.

Nashville took Pittsburgh (who have two franchise centers) to 6 games.
Ottawa took the same team to an Overtime in game 7.
Rangers came within 3 goals of winning a Stanley cup without one.

a franchise center is great, but its not the only way to win a cup.

Nashville and Ottawa, two teams that didn't win anything.

They lost to the team that has the one thing that every Cup team dating back to 2008 has in common.

Chytil was compared to Palat.

1)Colorado has to add significantly. MacKinnon is very overrated. Not much better of a producer than Stepan.

2)That's cutting Peter's head off to pay Paul.

I can definitely see the logic here. But a guy his age, coming off of a major knee injury, fitting in on a team that's based around speed? Seems so backwards.

I said a while ago when the Stepan talk started that I could see Marleau and Thornton going all Selanne/Kariya and taking cheap deals to play here. That would mean the Rangers would have to move a wing. Maybe there's a team that really likes Miller and would move a good RHD for him.

Just a joke.

Nash has never seemed to really fit with a play making center that likes to have the puck on his stick all the time. He's not the kind of guy who finds open ice to pick corners.

Without McDonagh, we're ****ing BAD.

And if McDonagh goes, that's almost a guarantee Zucc goes too.

Yeah, I think that happens eventually as well. This is all just speculation, but if Shattenkirk is not in your game plan, you obviously are not planning on being a top 4 team in the East, and prob at best a 7th 8th seed. Not to say you can't make a run like that (the NHL is wacky) but let's be real guys, look at the past winners over the last several years ... Det (beat Pit), Pit (beat Det), Chicago, Boston, Kings, Chicago (over beat Boston), Kings (over NY), Chicago, Pit, Pit again. The same few teams either win or are in the SC finals all the time. As much as we talk about parity, it's not true. So yes I think the way to do this is to think about the team 2-3Y years down the road, not just today, so do you keep Mac and Zucc at that age? Prob not. Prob also why they aren't signing Shattenkirk.

At least Peter has a Skjei left behind.

I feel a lot better about Skjei developing into a #1d than I do about anyone in the entire organisation developing into a franchise center.

if they wont sign a 28 year old RHD (which they have none of other than DeAngelo)

I'm not sure they're going to sign a defensemn with the injury history Mcdonagh has had when he's 31 to a huge contract especially when they have Skjei and others on the left side. Mcdonagh is better but will he be at that point?

The comparisons that were made at the Draft by the NBC crew were blatantly based entirely on Nationality or who from that Nationality was on the team that took the player...

Andersson was compared to Lindberg and Fast by Pierre solely because they're all Swedes playing in Sweden.

Chytll was compared to Palat because of their nationality.

None of it had anything to do with how they play or their potential so please can everyone stop bringing these up and citing these to crap on our newest prospects.

Agree 10000 percent. With the amount of games he has played and his style, I would be very leary of re-signin him long term.

There is a reason he is always hurt come playoff time.
