Miller had a **** playoffs, but he is coming off a great statistical season. 100 points the last two years, age 24.

That's a decent value guy. Look at what Montreal wants for Galchenyuk with a similar trajectory. Miller's not worth as much but he isn't miles behind.

I'm happy to keep JT as well. Guy gets undervalued because of streakiness and being put on the 4th line so often.

Gorton is clearly trying to change this, but you can't take a half measure if you are looking to do a rebuild. Retools don't work unless you commit a felony robbery with a trade, and you can't get a 1C without drafting top 5. The Rangers couldn't get a 1C at pick 7. That's not a dig at Andersson either.

Maybe he was just comparing that to the Stars. Of course he was going to be jaded about how the Stars treated him considering how things ended there.

He wrote that after he retired. He also played for the Kings and Red Wings. Yet, the Rangers, a team that shoved him aside twice, were mentioned in the article as the team that takes care of their players.

I mean Hayes skates like he's in mud and Stepan wasn't that great either, so Jumbo's footspeed is a slight concern for me, but I think his other attributes outweigh his poor skating. His IQ and ability to actually control the flow of a game are what separates him from everyone else that's available now. He's so damn smart and his passing is just stupid (you know all of this, but I've always loved Jumbo's game). He's one of those players whose playmaking actually can help set up where the other 4 guys on the ice are, and I want him to try to teach Kevin Hayes some of this since Hayes has that raw talent (albeit a 2 cent brain).

Now that I think of it, I don't even think our system truly needs fast centers. We need speed more on the wings to push the opposing d back, but we do need centers who can make the defensive reads and control the slot to help the d get the puck up ice with speed and their feet under them. Bonino would be good at this too, but I don't want anything to do with the contract he's about to get.

That's fair, and he's a great player, but that knee injury scares me. For a guy who relies on that wide base to shield the puck and create space, that's an awful lot of force on that knee night after night.

The Kings, Ducks, Bruins and Flyers would all disagree.

Jesus is it doom and gloom with you 24/7?

Harmonic just went for a 1st and 2 2nds. Tell me that the trade market for D is as low as it's ever been again.

Just because I knew the expectations everyone had for the Stepan return were absurd doesn't make me doom and gloom.

But just looking from the Sabres POV, for example, why pay a kings ransom for McDonagh when you can get Scandella for pretty much two 4th liners?

RB keeps pushing the idea of trading Miller for Hanifan.

I just don't think Miller is the guy they'd make that move for. The one thing he has going for him over Duchene is he's cost controlled, but the Canes would have to see him not only as a center, but as a very high scoring one.

Not every team is in the same position that buffalo is in.

If the rangers made mcdonagh available in a minute, pretty much the entire league would be interested.

I hope we don't sign Tavares next year. Can't hand out millions for years on a guy who is 28 to start the season. That's just poor management. Right?

This Shattenkirk situation makes no sense. He fills the biggest need on the team (or at least, what was prior to the Stepan trade). He's the best point producing dman on the PP in the NHL. He's a right handed shot of which the team has very few on defense. He's great at 5v5. He's only 28 years old and many puck moving dmen perform perfectly fine and well for a long time. He's really good at 5v5 despite what his reputation is (since it's the standard if a guy is good on offense he can't be good at defense narrative). They have a ton of cap space. He wants to play here.

And now is when they are going to get stingy with their spending? Just give him whatever he wants to get him here and call it a day. To risk losing a guy like this over 1M per year or an extra year on the deal is just crazy. As I said before the difference between giving him 6M a year and giving him 7M a year is like having Matt Puempel as your 23rd man or just having a 22man active roster. It's really not a big deal.

To get the better player? To not have to eat a contract like Pominville's?

Oh, I 100% agree with you, but I'd still take the short-term risk with Jumbo than pay long-term for Bonino, Hanzal, or someone else. Let's see how tomorrow plays out, should be an interesting one

I still want to sign Grigorenko and see if we can rekindle some of that magic he had in Quebec. Maybe get Duclair back and have a Remparts reunion tour? :naughty:

Either go all in, or blow it up. Nobody wants to see this team miss the playoffs by 3-5 points and pick 15th.

And in the Scandella trade thread there are quite a few posts like "if this the market for defensemen, I'm glad GM x didn't trade player Y".

Ottawa should be all over McDonagh. They need to improve if they want to get back to the ECF and beyond while Karlsson is still in his prime/they lose him to UFA/they have to give him the largest contract of the cap era. And yet they lost their only other good defensemen to Vegas.

Imagine a McDonagh-Karlsson pairing...

I'm prepared for the Rangers to do nothing but sign a ****** backup goalie. Then for the Devils to sign Shattenkirk, rub it in, then take the Rangers playoff spot next season.

This team is in the worst possible spot.. Not good enough to do **** and not bad enough to get a top 5 pick.

You live in a very deranged world
