Agree 10000 percent. With the amount of games he has played and his style, I would be very leary of re-signin him long term.

There is a reason he is always hurt come playoff time.

Which would make sense if the Rangers don't sign Shattenkirk and eventually don't resign Mac when he's up. Move on to young blood.

They obviously see DeAngelo coming right into the top 4 if they don't sign Shattenkirk.

If this was "let's just suck for draft picks," there wouldn't be widely-reported interest in Thornton.

One another note: How ****ing long have we been looking for that elusive "Power Play Quarterback"??? One defenseman can only do so much. The problem with our powerplay goes further than 1 player. Our powerplay seems to either run set up plays or just stand around. I think the thing we need is either truly creative players to get more PP time(Zucc, Buch) or to make a coaching decision to turn our powerplays into scrums. Hard shot low on the goalie and rush the net for rebounds

I can definitely see the logic here. But a guy his age, coming off of a major knee injury, fitting in on a team that's based around speed? Seems so backwards.

I said a while ago when the Stepan talk started that I could see Marleau and Thornton going all Selanne/Kariya and taking cheap deals to play here. That would mean the Rangers would have to move a wing. Maybe there's a team that really likes Miller and would move a good RHD for him.

That would be the scenario. If you could parlay Miller into Trouba, you get your top pairing RD that you can sign long term. Thornton becomes your safety net for Zib/Hayes, and placeholder until Andersson/Chytil are ready.

The NY Rangers. Where failing to sign the biggest free agent on the market means your rebuild has failed.

The Salary Cap:

Where you need to rebuild a year too early instead of a year too late. Rangers have a terrific chance to ship out McDonagh for a franchise rebuilding haul. And decide to pair him with...I don't know? Re-signing Smith is risky if you get the Red Wings version and the Rangers need as much open cash as possible for summer 2019. Give the team two years to rebuild. Let the forwards grow into their primes while you fix the defense. See how good Skjei is and weaponize the salary cap.

Brooks mentioned Hunwick which makes zero sense cause they basically have 7 D on paper now . If they get another they trade Staal or Holden

At C Grigerenko and Desharnais mentioned for 4 th line

Talk of both Marleau and Thornton but that seems to many teams plan

That would be the scenario. If you could parlay Miller into Trouba, you get your top pairing RD that you can sign long term.

You are delusional if you think Miller can still return Trouba

Andersson, to me, sounds like an Andreas Johansson, not the top line savior at C. But, admittedly, I said similar of JT Miller, so what do I know?

Sounds good in theory, but I think the Trouba dream would have to wait until next summer and the rumors of contract extension turmoil start up again. Plus if the Jets still want D, they'd have to find a good, young LHD in exchange for Miller that would entice them. Not sure who that could be.

I would say trade McDonagh ASAP but the trade value of defensemen is the lowest it has been in a lonh time. And with or without him, a Cup in the next two years is really unlikely.

No mans land.

I'm prepared for the Rangers to do nothing but sign a ****** backup goalie. Then for the Devils to sign Shattenkirk, rub it in, then take the Rangers playoff spot next season.

This team is in the worst possible spot.. Not good enough to do **** and not bad enough to get a top 5 pick.

didn't a meh defenseman Adam Larsson hand Taylor Hall?

Hamonic. a 1st in a strong draft and 2 2nds?

Mcdonagh is valued way above either

A center version of Palat is actually a decent comparable for Chytil when you consider his tenacity, skill, and size/speed combo. It's a stylistic comparison, not saying that's who'll end up being.

I mean Hayes skates like he's in mud and Stepan wasn't that great either, so Jumbo's footspeed is a slight concern for me, but I think his other attributes outweigh his poor skating. His IQ and ability to actually control the flow of a game are what separates him from everyone else that's available now. He's so damn smart and his passing is just stupid (you know all of this, but I've always loved Jumbo's game). He's one of those players whose playmaking actually can help set up where the other 4 guys on the ice are, and I want him to try to teach Kevin Hayes some of this since Hayes has that raw talent (albeit a 2 cent brain).

Now that I think of it, I don't even think our system truly needs fast centers. We need speed more on the wings to push the opposing d back, but we do need centers who can make the defensive reads and control the slot to help the d get the puck up ice with speed and their feet under them. Bonino would be good at this too, but I don't want anything to do with the contract he's about to get.

Jesus is it doom and gloom with you 24/7?

Harmonic just went for a 1st and 2 2nds. Tell me that the trade market for D is as low as it's ever been again.

Miller for Trouba. We can put that right next to the Stepan for Domi/Dvorak/Strome and 7OA proposals.

RB keeps pushing the idea of trading Miller for Hanifan.

What are you talking about? The trade value of defenseman is soaring. Did you see what Hamonic returned?

A cup within the next two years isn't happening anyway.

Carolina would not trade Hanifin for Duchene. They are not trading him for JT Miller. The Hurricanes are still very high on him.

If anything it is the opposite. We would get a HAUL for McDonagh! You kidding? It could turn this franchise around.
