B Richards says hello
was already 31 (going on 32) when they signed him.. and he had 2 good years with the Rangers., taking him to his age 34 (what Shatty will be with a 6 year deal)
B Richards says hello
And most of the people who want him now at almost all costs will be complaining about how he isn't a "true #1" by December.
Two that seem close  if not done  are Trevor Daley (Detroit) and Dan Girardi (Tampa Bay).
The Rangers are determined to be modest, which takes them out of the Kevin Shattenkirk race unless something really changes. Buffalo is believed to be a serious suitor. There was some talk Dallas might try a short-term deal, but not sure where that stands after Marc Methot’s arrival
Buffalo and NJ will definitely open their wallets for Shattenkirk. Rangers won't have to open their wallet as much, due to his desire to play here and a million other intangible reasons along those lines (family, childhood team, etc.), but he won't take a $2M/yr cut just to play here.
If Gorton wants to keep Shattenkirk's attention, he can probably only drop his his $/yr by about 500k-750k less than the other teams. If he goes any lower, he risks Shattenkirk walking away and saying "no."
Kevin will likely take a paycut to play here, but he's not going to take a massive one. We're talking like...maybe $5M-$6M total on the deal, assuming a 7 year deal.
Kinkaid back to Devils . 2 yrs
It's just my opinion.. but Shattenkirk to the Rangers is as perfect of a fit as Moncada was for the Yankees, and they passed too.. (luckily they ended up with Torres in a trade)
Hopefully. He should be the target. If Kinkaid resigned in NJ that means the Rangers have another plan for backup. Lots of rumors out there that had Kinkaid wanting to be a Ranger. If he signed elsewhere that means the Rangers have their backup. Nilsson?
Smith on NHL network right now.
Calls the Captain on if his best friends. Loves Skjei
on the idea of leaving money on the table (obviously easier to say when its not your money) but is shattenkirk's situation really any different than any other top ufa aside from the fact that larry is talking out of both sides of his mouth and stated it to cover himself?
I mean think about it. There aren't many teams that spend to the midpoint. The majority of teams spend to within a few mil of the cap and then you have a handful of teams like arizona that need to be allowed to circumvent the cap by adding fake salaries because they need to spend $30 mil just to get to the floor....
obviously the teams that need to spend 20+ mil just to get to the floor can offer you alot more $$ than a contender that needs to dump guys to clear space for you. so just about any player that wants to sign with a specific team is potentially gonna have to leave money on the table compared to if they just went to the team with the most cap space.
Rangers have 19M in cap space with only Zib and Fast to sign as far as RFAs go...
If Shattenkirk wants to be a Ranger, they both should be able to figure out something fair to both to make it happen, and that's how we should proceed.
we also need to replace 2 centers and 3 dmen. obviously how that some of those spots are filled by kids that don't make alot. but you resign zib, sign shattenkirk (at our price) and sign 1 reasonable priced center and that 19M disappears in a hurry.
without shattenkirk its a ton of cap space, add him in and its not as much as it sounds.
They go way back. Played together in college. If him and Skjei weren't so great together, I would understand him being paired with McDonagh.
Compliance Buyout at that pointWhen Shattenkirk *declines in 5 years* and we're on the hook for 2 bad years...
Skjei will be 28
Buchnevich will be 26
Miller will be 29
etc... Rangers will be rebuilding by that point.
Oh i knew that. Just interesting to hear him say it.
Also gave Ekblad that huge contract almost immediately.I was just thinking that. Paid Yandle pretty handsomely but now need to cut 10M? Strange.
