I think that is one good story fabricated by either Ranger management or BR's agent . Geesh....look at the deal and it's terms and the fact he got MILLIONS for a season that did not even happen . Every time I've watched Shattenkirk play ( STL and WAS; prominently in the playoffs ) he's been average to below average. Yes, he puts up points in the regular season but from what I've witnessed, it would be a massive mistake to sign him.

We might still be a playoff team but the window is closed at least for the next couple years. We might be alright in the regular seasons but I don't believe that Henrik at his age can carry his team to a championship. For me the sooner Shesterkin gets here the better.

I think one advantage to signing the old men is that if it all goes wrong and the team sucks and the coach gets fired and it's enough of a mess to even make the back pages, it just accelerates the rebuild.

These things always become real urban legends. Shanahan took less to come to NY, stuff like that. Its far from always true, I think Shanny for example got a higher AAV from us than MTL but MTL offered more years so the total was lower, according to the rumors which are questionable to start with.

And that's 4.5m before tax. And the Rangers have some perks others don't. I remember Sean Avery on TPB talking about all the extras that the Rangers paid for players that other teams didn't. It saved him a lot of money

Brooks thinks its absurd for Shattenkirk to leave money on the table, that's why he's so adamant it wont happen.

Almost every big outlet has at one point said he would take less to play for the Rangers, how much less is the question?.. but he would be willing to take less.
