Too many of you guys are trying to read into these tweets like it's the bible code. You want to believe something one way or the other so the outcome you want happens.
If I'm reading you correctly, you're saying we're all very smart and handsome?

Rangers have 19M in cap space with only Zib and Fast to sign as far as RFAs go...

If Shattenkirk wants to be a Ranger, they both should be able to figure out something fair to both to make it happen, and that's how we should proceed.

OR they could be patient and use that free space elsewhere.

They are still going to have cap space in the future.. Nash is gone soon (7.8), Holden is gone (1.5), Grabner is gone (1.6) and that's only in the next year..

and I don't think they're sold on all of Miller, Hayes, etc to re sign as RFAs, I could easily see one traded.

Or they'll spend it on some ******** like Smith (already did) and Bonino or Marleau, etc.

I really don't want Shattenkirk, such a Rongos move.

Rangers haven't had a legitimate top right handed defenseman since Zubov... Don't give me Smith... If you're gonna overpay for something, you overpay for either a Top center (not available) or an impact RHD (available).

If I'm Shattenkirk, I'd happily leave money on the table not to lose every year for the foreseeable future with the Devils, or live for any amount of time in Buffalo.

I hope they're thinking further along than the 2 RFAs we have yet to sign this year...

Because his contract will be a lot longer than that. A lot longer than the 4 we have next year too.

I'm not talking about next year. I'm talking about the rest of the off season. They could still be active on the trade market because they have so much free space. Gorton said it himself after the draft; teams are calling them now that they have room.

If Buffalo offers 7 X 6.. and Rangers offer 6 X 6.. I still feel he would come here.. I think the Rangers really only need to come close to the best offer, that's if they really care to have him at all.

Fine..

19M cap space..

Shattenkirk 6.5
Zibanejad 5
Fast 2.
Back up goalie > 1M

play Miller at 3C or even Anderssen.

leaves almost 5 to 6M to operate in season. They have plenty of cap to do it and still be able to operate in season.

I agree wholeheartedly. He grew up a Ranger fan. At a certain point, other factors besides just maximizing his income will probably factor in. If it comes down to a reasonable difference, I believe he'll choose New York.

At least we'll know who our compliance buyout will be after the next lockout if we sign Shattenkirk:sarcasm:

let me guess "because of staal and girardi"...

people expect him to decline in 4 to 5 years because Staal and Girardi did... even though they are nowhere near alike defenseman.

I have no problem going 7 years for Shattenkirk as long at cap hit is in the 6.25-6.75 range (or lower)

And most of the people who want him now at almost all costs will be complaining about how he isn't a "true #1" by December.
