Happy for Dylan. Whatever happens, he's an AHL veteran now and at the very least will be a big part of the Griffins roster.

Sign Thornton and Shatty.

If they dont feel comfortable with what Boyle is asking for, look for Andersson to play 4C. Battle it out with Nieves

The Shatty part...I'm with ya. The Jumbo part no can do.

Does it worry you at all that he's 38 coming off not just an ACL tear but also an MCL tear as well? These are not injuries that are easy to overcome when you are 24 years old let alone 38.

I don't see how JG could in good conscious give Jumbo even 3.5 for one year let alone the 2 or 3 years he's going to want.

You or anyone who wants Jumbo Joe here isn't worried at all about the health situation combined with the age scenario?

Too risky for my blood but I'd be curious as to why if we are " retooling on the fly", you'd think Thornton would be a good addition even if he was willing to come here which I seriously doubt.

I can't believe people are willing to trade Skjei for Duchene but at the same time wanted Stepan gone because he wasn't performing

Possibility of Staal and a 2nd for Lack? Carolina needs to hit the cap floor and move a goalie. Gives them a veteran defender back there as well. Gives them a 6th defender if they move Hanifin or Faulk for a FWD.

I don't think Carolina does that--though I'm sure they would love if someone would take Lack off their hands.

I don't like the Rangers giving up a 2nd either. I'd rather buy him out if it comes to that.

Assuming Marc waives, CAR would not do that b'c of the term.
They have plenty of depth for D and do not want to add a significant salary all things being =, IMO.

That said, if you upped the bribe w/a second for each year
or maybe you get away w/a 2nd for 2 yrs and 3rds for each yr of the rest of the term, then maybe they accept the albatross.

But I don't see it as an easy fit.

Zero interest in Vanek. He has always been a feast or famine type player to me. Too streaky, even during his best years. Never the fastest of skaters and certainly not quick now. Not impressed by his board play or willingness to play the rugged game when needed especially on the defensive side of the puck.

No Im not concerned with Jumbo Joe coming off the surgeries. There is a reason that a guy of his size has been able to stay healthy his entire career. He trains hard and is always in incredible physical shape. The guy is ripped. I trust he will be a workhorse in his rehab and recovery.

He was never fast but thats ok. He is big body center who has is a career 52% on the dot. He plays with an edge and has a lot of playoff games under his belt. He is thirsty for a cup. He is presence, a leader. He will replace what Stepan brought and then some because he is better than Stepan in so many areas of the game, especially within the center position, even at 38. He is the perfect addition for 1-2 years while prospects develop and during likely Hanks last efficient seasons before going in the wrong direction. I also believe he is the best guy to help take Hayes' game to the next level. Similar players. Big guys at center who are playmakers. Hayes could learn a ton from him; he certainly hasnt had any centers to learn from to this point.

Subtract Lack and his cap hit out and the Hurricanes have 19 players and need to make up about $7.5 mil to hit the floor. They're almost the perfect team to give in to Alexander Radulov's crazy demands. That would about do it for them to reach that goal--and he'd fit as the offensive player they're looking for. Just saying--they're a team that could afford to overpay for him and get a benefit out of it.

MAYBE, maybe Staal moves to Detroit -- closer to roots.

Nieves is connected to Michigan, forget if that was college or where from, or other;
add Tambellini + Klein [expiring, either sooner or later]
+ 2nd
+ Staal reduced to 3.5

for
McIlrath
+ acceptable cap dump Mrazek; Howard?

did not crunch these numbers hard, obviously, but we can let Wings win enough on cap to consider the deal; they get coupla assets that help in exchange for MS.

Staal episode finally concluded
We get an actual righty for D depth, who is enforcer, just in case.

We can use the goalie for 1 yr stopgap

thoughts....
