Sign Thornton and Shatty.

If they dont feel comfortable with what Boyle is asking for, look for Andersson to play 4C. Battle it out with Nieves

I concur. But teams don't normally trade players of Duchenes cal... well we just did. Still. Take Duchenes previous production into account, where Colorado was last year as a team and what he could do on a team like ours, it is a fair deal IMO.

Sakic turned down Hamonic + 1st for Duchene. Skjei is already better than Hamonic one could argue and you are right, the RFA status is very valuable. 1 for 1 it is as fair of a deal as you get. That being said, I don't even consider it for a second.

I wasn't aware of that. Wow.

How did Arizona put the squeeze on us? Wunderkid admitted to pursuing Stepan for over a year and the Rangers were high on DeAngelo. Just because we wanted more doesn't mean we got screwed. If the brass was right and DeAngelo can be THAT guy, we won the deal. I was upset with it at first, very upset. But now, cooler heads have prevailed and I can see why the deal was made. We had serious concerns about Stepans mobility in a game that is only getting faster and faster. If we didn't make the trade now, it was never going to get made. We did fine.

if Deangelo develops into a top 4 PMD we won the trade.. especially since apparently we drafted another younger version of Stepan with the pick... and saved a ton of cap space.. we'll see who wins the trade in about 2 to 3 years.

I'm starting to believe that the retirement thing was indeed a pure bluff to not get selected by ARZ. Granted there organization isn't great in terms of success but there are much worse places to play IMO. Klein obviously feels differently. He has been on a winning team for a while now. That is important.

I'm not.. there was a -100 chance that they were going to choose Klein with all his back problems and the Rangers barely playing him.

Thankfully This should end the shattenkirk thing. He would be nice but can't afford him and I would rather a few kids play.

Spend some $$ on filling in gaps or work on a hockey trade to get better up the middle.

Let the devils offer shatty 6 for 7 and enjoy that deal in yrs 4-7

I don't think we traded Step just to re-sign Smith. Gorton has to have other hopes for cap room.

I wasn't aware of that. Wow.

Yeah. I view Hamonic higher than most Rangers fans. Up until this year, he was a top pairing defenseman. He had a down year. So did Duchene. Perfect time to swap two down players. Snows offer was astronomical. Is Duchene worth a 2 firsts and 2 2nds? Thats the equivalent of what Snow turned down.

I have gained respect for Snow recently. Sakic? He has now taken over the worst GM spot in my opinion. Cheveldayoff previously held that spot AINEC. Sakic now holds it AINEC.

3rd worst

Cheveldayoff

Sakic.

Let's not squander our cap $ on fringe wastes/short term win now mistakes

Let's have in reserve for when opportunity knocks.
Wrap up Zib, Hayes, Miller long, long term mo yrs drives down price

Trade Staal, threaten to buy out.

Add a third so we can move Holden for a 2nd

Since MacKinnon is not coming, Skjei stays
Buch + for Reinhart

test market for McD, Zuc

look for opportunity

I didn't say I would do it but Skjei for a guy who is a 1C and has had 1 down year... isn't a bad deal. You could argue that the down year is the only reason at all the trade could be made.

Again, I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole.

He has very Stepan like stats (60 more points with 60 more games played), not near the playoff resume, less term, a very public trade dramedy but we ought to pony up a better defender than we got back (we got a high 1st but we added Raanta.)

Hayes and graves doesn't get it done but it shouldn't be far off. Maybe Zborovskiy instead.

I mean Hayes as our 3rd line center out performed Duchene... would you trade Skjei for Hayes?

and he's a RFA, younger, and much cheaper right now.

maybe its a scorer of some sorts from where and who I don't know? but maybe they think Skjei + Deangelo + hypothetical scorer is better than Shattenkirk?

of course if we sign Bonino... then... yeah

Jordan Staal got 3 nice pieces with less term. We went over the comparables. We added a $1m starting goalie and got something Sakic would turn down for the comparable Duchene alone. Plus Sakic has a mess there, we arguably could have walked away.

And squeezing isn't the same as screwing. We should have gotten more for the two players we gave up, Chayka held firm and we blinked first. One more piece along the lines of Duclair or a b prospect would have been a fair deal.

Gardner, I think Benning is worse than both of those.

Eh... Thats a fair point and I think it just comes down to personal preference. Benning is bottom 5 but I don't think he is bottom 2. To me, those two are the worst by far. Their stubbornness and egos continue to get the best of them. Benning doesn't have that same ego IMO and that ego is far more dangerous.

No, he's just bumbling.

If we rolled the dice for cap room to get a star player but come up empty I will understand. Lets not waste that cap room on an average player. Sometime in the next year a good player will become available if we play things smart. .

I agree, I'm really not into overpaying any of these "meh" players on the market other than Shattenkirk (and market value for him).. the forwards on the market are no better than what we already have, though we do need a 2 or 3 C.

I would take Marleau on this team on a short deal because he can still reasonably skate and can play C.
